Flooding Causes Water Contamination North of Shoshone On Friday, March 3rd, the Lincoln County Commissioners held a special Townhall Meeting to address possible contamination of water wells north of Shoshone. If you live in the area of 320 N to 820 N, west of Highway 75, it is recommended you not drink, cook, or bathe, until your water has been tested. Water testing kits are available at the courthouse P&Z office, Monday thru Friday, 8:30 to 5:00. For more information, contact Payson Reese, Disaster
Services Coordinator at 208-410-1738. On Saturday, the L.C. Commissioners issued a press release stating that water for livestock has been made available. Lincoln County residents needing livestock water can go to Shoshone Fire Department station number 2. They will need to bring tanks to fill. Bottled water is also available for Lincoln County residents and can be picked up between the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Shoshone Fire Department No. 2 located at 620 N 700 West in Shoshone.
Child Find 2017
The Gooding Jt. School District will be holding a Child Find event on Thursday, March 16, 2017, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Child Find activities are conducted for numerous reasons. One, to create public awareness of special education programs; Two, to advise the public that students who qualify for services have the right to a free appropriate public education and confidentiality protections; and Three, to alert community residents that a process exists for identifying and serving children with disabilities from the age of 3 through the semester in which they turn 21 if they are eligible for Special Education. If you know of a child who is 3 through 21 years of age who may have individual needs that result from disabilities or
developmental delays, and who is not enrolled in a school program, please contact Stephanie Patterson, Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, at (208) 934-4941 ext. 203 for an appointment for ages 3-5, Dr. Pamela Houston-Powell at extension 253 for ages 6-21, or the school district office at (208) 934-4321. These children may have difficulty walking, talking, hearing, or learning, or may display behaviors that appear different from other children their age. If you are part of a community agency or civic group that would like more information about educating children with disabilities, or would like pamphlets to distribute to members, please call the school office or one of the above phone numbers. The Gooding Jt. School District, in cooperation with parents and nonpublic school agencies, engages in Child Find services throughout the school year. Child Find services are available at all school distircts.
For those residents needing shower facilities, they can go to the Lincoln County Community Center located at 201 S Beverly in the City of Shoshone. Residents will need to bring their own toiletries. This facility will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Bottled water is also available at this location. According to Public Information Officer, John Moore, the city water supplies of Shoshone, Dietrich and Richfield have not been affected by the recent flooding and contamination issues, .
State BB Tournament
The Dietrich Blue Devil Boys went all the way to this year’s State 1AD2 Championship game with victories over Kendrick ((66-51) and Rockland (72-55). Dietrich took the early lead in the final game against Genesis Prep (Post Falls) keeping the game close thru the first half. The Genesis Prep Jaguars took over to lead the second half by as much as 15 points. Despite several rallies by the Blue Devils, they couldn’t take back the lead. Final score: Jaguars 68, Blue Devils 62. In 3A Basketball, the Gooding Senators won their first game against Parma (66-54), but lost to Sugar-Salem (57-41) and Kellogg (49-40) to end in 4th place.
