Notable Fish Stockings Around the State
By Bryan Grant, Fish Hatchery Complex Manager
Idaho Fish and Game stocks over 30 million fish from its hatcheries into waters throughout the state every year, providing Idahoans with fishing opportunities for a variety of species. Stocking is ramping back up in many parts of the state in March as the weather gets warmer and spring approaches, and many waterbodies are being stocked for the first time since the fall. With so many fish stocked in so many places, it can be hard for anglers to sift through the stocking forecasts and records to identify noteworthy stocking events. To make it easier, Fish and Game hatchery staff have highlighted some stocking events for the month of March. Whether it is a large number of fish being stocked relative to the size of the water, a unique species, a new location, or a one-time-only stocking, here’s what they came up with: Magic Valley Region Blair Trail Fishing Pond – 2,000 Rainbow Trout. First stocking event for 2020! Located on Little Canyon Creek, this remote desert water is surrounded by sagebrush solitude. Cedar Creek Reservoir (Roseworth Reservoir) – 2,000 Rainbow Trout. If you are looking to get out of town for the day, this reservoir is a remote trout fishery in the high desert. It has continued on page 6... great shoreline access as well as high water and low water boat ramps.

2020 Idaho Presidential Primary March 10th
Next week, Idaho joins five other states - Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, and Washington - to hold its Presidential Primary Election on Tuesday, March 10th. In past years, the Idaho Presidential Primary has been held at the same time as the State Primary (to be held on May 19th). Also, this year Idaho Democrats will nominate their Presidential candidate through the primary process rather than by caucus. It is hoped that this will encourage more people to participate in the selection of a candidate. 17 names are on the Democratic ticket (see page 7), but as of Tuesday only 5 of those candidates remain in the race: Joe Biden, Michael Bloomberg, Tulsi Gabbard, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren. South Carolina’s primary on Saturday, February 29th, brought Joe Biden’s campaign back to life. He won nearly 50% of that state’s Democratic vote putting him solidly in second position behind Bernie Sanders. Last night’s Super Tuesday (14 states) will likely reduce the number Democratic candidates even more as the results are tabulated. On the Republican ticket, there are no serious competators against President Trump. One candidate, Bill Weld (a former Governor of Massachusetts), took one deligate in the Iowa Caucuses but his campaign appears to be bankrupt. There is one other Presidential ticket Idaho voters might want to consider - the Constitution Party. 6 names are listed on that ticket, but only Don Blankenship (a coal executive from West Virginia) appears to have an active campaign. -- -- -- -- - Friday, March 13th, is the last day you can change your party affiliation before the May 19th Primary election. If you want to vote the Republican ticket, you must be registered as a Republican. Unaffiliated voters and registered Democrats can vote in the Democratic ticket. Unaffiliated voters can also vote the Constitution ticket. Unaffiliated voters can chose to affiliate anytime, including the day of a primary election.
