Healthcare New Regulations Sandwich Shop in Gooding
Federal regulations of any kind are two-edged swords - a balance of safety and freedom. When we go to a hospital or a clinic, we want to know that the drugs, equipment, and procedures are safe, but how much regulation is too much? What if the federal government claimed the right to regulate the cells in your own body? In Colorado, there is current litigation over whether a medical clinic can use a person’s own stem cells to treat joint pain. The FDA is claiming the right to regulate this “non-surgical” procedure for two reasons: One, since they are being used as a medical treatment, stem cells are classified as a “medical product” and are subject to regulation; Two, interstate commerce. The Constitution grants Congress the power to regulate interstate commerce (trade between states). While states have successfully challenged the Federal government when they have tried to regulate business that takes place wholly within the boundaries of one state, some issues are still contentious. Most of us think that marijuana is regulated as a drug, but in fact, marijuana is regulated primarily because the Controlled Substances Act “regulates the production, distribution, and consumption of commodities for which there is an established, and lucrative, interstate market.” In the Colorado case, the FDA is claiming that the clinic is involved in interstate commerce because some of the continued on page 9.....
The Jackman family has spent the last three years remodeling the inside of the little tan building at 2039 Main Street in Gooding (across from E&W). Basketball Tournaments Girls Basketball The basketball season ended last week for the Shoshone (15-8) and Gooding girls (11-10). In the 1AD1 tournament, Challis defeated Shoshone 47 to 25 and played Hagerman Tuesday night. In Class 2A basketball, Declo knocked the Gooding girls out of that tournament with a 50 to 39 win. The championship game for the 1AD2 District IV Tournament will be tonight at Murtaugh between Dietrich (19-0) and Richfield (15-5). ---------------Boy’s Basketball Tournaments begin next Monday. 1AD2 teams will be in Castleford. 1AD1 and 2A teams will play at the home of the highest ranked team.
