Help the Hagerman Library Grow
The one-room Hagerman Public Library building at the corner of State and Orchard has been in use as a library since the late 1930’s. With an official capacity of only 7.5 people, it’s ability to serve the community is severly limited. When there are children’s activities, the librarian, Geri Omonundro, travels to another location in town to read and have fun with the children. Many children enjoy the library, but you can’t even fit a Head Start class in there. The library would like to add more space and become more of a community center, offering distance learning, opportunities for teens and young children, and meeting space for the community. They would also like to offer residents of the Hagerman Valley classes such as canning, gardening, quilting, and cooking if there is an interest. The Hagerman Valley Library Foundation began meeting in May of 2106 with the goal of building a larger, more up-to-date facility. Last month they were granted non profit corporation status, 501(c)(3) so that donations may now be tax deductible and they can apply for matching grants. The foundation recently started working with a teacher at Hagerman High School to develop a survey of the community before
filing for grants. They want to know what the community would like to see as their first step in planning. Students of the Hagerman High School’s BPA are also planning to help with technology assistance to the foundation. The school sent out survey information in their December newsletter and the library, City Hall, and churches in Hagerman have assisted in the survey process. If you haven’t already done so, please take time to visit their Facebook page “Hagerman Friends of the Library” or stop by the library or City Hall to complete a survey before the end of December, 2016. Your input is important as they plan for new library space and programs. There is also a Go Fund Me page under the name: Hagerman Library Fund to donate to the library’s growth.
Ice Fishing: Idaho’s Coolest Angling Opportunity
by Roger Phillips, F&G Public Information
Ask avid ice anglers about a day on a frozen lake or reservoir and their eyes may light up like a friend telling you about a Hawaiian vacation. Ice fishing is unique, and for avid ice anglers,
it’s an opportunity to catch fish in ways you simply can’t duplicate during other seasons. Add a pack of your best pals, a barbecue grill and a comfy chair, and you’ve got a picnic on the ice. continued on page 2...

And the Winner Is...
We all know Donald Trump won the 2016 Presidential Election, but this Monday the Electorial College cast its votes. TRUMP - 304* CLINTON - 227* While some have tried to make a big deal of the fact that Mr. Trump did not win the popular vote, neither did Mrs. Clinton. Though she won won between 1.5 to 3 million votes more than Mr. Trump (depending on who you believe), Mrs. Clinton only won 48% of the popular vote. The actual difference between these two candidates was around 1% (0.6%-1.2%). In the state by state race, Mr. Trump took 30 states while Mrs. Clinton 20 states + D.C. The real surprise, however, was at the county level. Four years ago, President Obama set an all-time low for a successful presidential candidate by winning just 22% of the 3,143 counties in the United States. In 2016, Mrs. Clintion lost her presidental bid by taking only 16% of the counties. * Trump lost two electorial vote in Texas and Clinton lost four in Washington.
