Nonresident Deer/Elk Tag Sale... December 10th
The sale for 2025 nonresident deer and elk tags will be held on December 10th this year. The change is intended to allow residents to conveniently buy licenses and permits in early December, ensure auto-renew transactions can be processed in a timely manner, and provide better customer service to all buyers.
However, due to high volumes of online sales throughout the month of December, printing and mailing of tags will be significantly delayed. To ensure hunters and anglers get their permits and tags that are needed in January, online sales for those tags will be unavailable, and buyers will need to purchase in-person at a Fish and Game office or a license vendor location. In-person sales are first-come, first-served.
After the initial statewide limits of nonresident deer tags sell out, there will be another sale for reserved white-tailed deer tags on March 20, 2025.
After December 9th, nonresident bear, wolf, mountain lion, steelhead permits for 2024 seasons will not be sold online (steelhead e-tags will still be available). Starting December 10th, all nonresident notchable tags for bear, mountain lion, and wolf for the 2024 and 2025 season will only be available at vendor locations. Those tags normally require 7 to 10 business days for delivery, and due to high volume of other license and tag sales, they would not be delivered before the end of the year.

Licenses and tags can be bought online at GoOutdoorsIdaho.com, through the Idaho Fish and Game mobile apps, or by phone at 800-5548685. They can also be purchased at license vendor locations or F&G regional offices during normal business hours.
Southern Idaho Solid Waste District To Receive $36.5 Million from USDA
Southern Idaho Solid Waste District serves more than 220,000 residences across the seven South-Central Idaho counties in Blaine, Cassia, Gooding, Jerome, Lincoln, Minidoka, and Twin Falls. To help with essential upgrades and modernizations, USDA Rural Development has announced that the department is providing a $36.5 million loan for the SISW. "Landfills are no longer just a place to haul trash. They are now sophisticated facilities that not only take waste, but produce electricity from methane, deal in numerous chemical and water quality issues and hire a large professional staff." said USDA Idaho State Director Richard Rush. "Southern Idaho Solid Waste is one of the most innovative facilities in Idaho. Seven County Commissioners have come together to make it all happen."
The Southern Idaho Solid Waste District (SISW) will upgrade landfill infrastructure, enhance safety measures, replace outdated equipment and waste transportation containers that will provide a long-term solution to manage solid waste efficiently and cost effectively. SISW plays a vital role for surrounding communities by managing over 320,000 tons of waste annually and diverting 40,000 tons of recyclables.
"This funding is a significant step forward for our communities." Said SWIS Executive Director and CEO Nate Francisco. "It allows us to improve our facilities, enhance safety, and manage waste more efficiently, all while keeping costs low for our customers. We are grateful for USDA's support in helping us continue to serve the growing needs of South-Central Idaho."

Cup of Tee by Tee Hurd
The expression, “I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck” is usually used to refer to the fact that a person wasn’t born yesterday and has a little better skill level. Of course, saying, “He just fell off the turnip truck” means the person is a little uninformed or a little rustic in his processes.
No one knows exactly where the phrase came from since turnips have been harvested since Roman times. On many occasions the turnips were food for poor people. Later on they were used for livestock feed because of their volume and multiple use.
Perhaps in the early 1900’s when agriculture was a business that had nine out of ten people employed, no one thought anything of turnip production. But as the 1920’s came along, the cities were taking the employment of the masses.
For city folk to see country folk coming in with their harvest indicated the country folk were out of place cause they didn’t understand the city life. On the other hand, the country folk would reinforce the idea that they had not just fallen off of a turnip truck because they completely understood labor and mechanicalization whereas city folk didn’t. We all know Idaho gets its share of the jokes about agriculture and potatoes. Ask anyone east of the Mississippi and they think Iowa is famous for growing potatoes, and Idaho and Iowa are one state. So, we can extend the phrase, “I didn’t
just fall off the turnip truck” to “I didn’t just fall of the tater truck.”
A few years ago, I was sacking some potatoes into my refrigerated box truck. I had purchased them loose and had to sack them by hand. The time was around midnight and I had to get them sacked so I could get to Fairfield, as well as the Treasure Valley, for delivery in my planned time. Then, I decided to take a short break. As I stood on the edge of my truck, I started to pull the strap down that held my door. The strap snapped and I went over backwards on my head on the pavement. I ended up cutting my head and pulling a muscle along with a scraped arm. It wasn’t the break I was expecting.
Wednesday following my fall I was cosponsoring a benefit. I couldn’t move hardly and needless to say, I couldn’t sack loose potatoes. I had a couple of friends help me with the potato packing. I told the people at the benefit I was a little slow, but we would get things done. I also indicated the new phrase, “Do I look like I had just fallen off a tater truck?” Without response I had to tell everyone that I had actually just fallen off a tater truck, and yes, I was perceived as being “a little slow” because my “movement” was just that... Slow!
Maybe I should skip the Idaho thing and say I fell off a turnip truck (originally Jack-o’lanterns were made from turnips).
Facedown, this is my “Cup of Tee” with a light still on.

Help Those Most Lonely This Holiday Season
from the Idaho Commission on Aging
Loneliness is real! And even though many of us think of loneliness as an emotional response, it is so much more.
According to the CDC one in three adults in the US report feeling lonely, with an estimated $406 billion dollar impact on the U.S. economy with $6.7 billion of those dollars going to directly to Medicare costs.
A recent publication by the US Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy, MD shares the impact of loneliness. As expected, the report verified that loneliness is connected to increased rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide. However, it is also linked to increased rates of dementia, heart disease, elevated blood pressure and diabetes.
Although many nursing homes and assisted living centers do a great job of connecting their residents, the reality is that many residents continue to feel lonely. The National Library of Medicine reports that 40 percent of nursing home residents feel some level of loneliness. This is especially true for those that do not have regular visits from family and friends.
The good news is that you can make a difference this holiday season and throughout the year. The Idaho Commission on Aging (ICOA) encourages you to write letters to Residents of Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities in your area. Write a letter, send a card, have your children draw a picture, and send it to a facility in your area addressed to “Any Resident”. This may not seem like much, but to a lonely person, it would mean the world. These letters will be distributed to residents who have little to no contact with family and friends.
If you would like to share your efforts on social media, we encourage you to use the hashtag #IdahoConnects to encourage others to join in and make a difference.
About the Idaho Commission on Aging

The Idaho Commission on Aging (ICOA) serves Idaho’s seniors, people with disabilities, and their caregivers by safeguarding their rights, fostering self-sufficiency, and advocating on their behalf. The ICOA provides opportunities for individuals to access a comprehensive array of private and public pay, long term care, and support services through “Single Access Points” operated by the Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs).
The Older Americans Act (OAA) authorizes the state to designate a State Unit on Aging (SUA) to administer federal programs in Idaho. ICOA has the authority to develop and manage budgets and programs to address the needs of older Idahoans, people with disabilities and their caregivers. The ICOA administers state and federally funded programs under the OAA and the State Senior Services Act by contracting with six geographically located Area Agencies on Aging (AAA). The AAAs provide OAA services as well as Idaho’s Ombudsman and Adult Protective programs.

Food Pantries Needs Donations
Your local food pantry needs your donation year round, but as they prepare for the holiday distributions the need is even more. As many of you know the cost of living has increased and food insecurity is being felt by more households. In addition, the Idaho Foodbank has been overwhelmed and because of this they are not getting as large of deliveries from them. On going needs are can goods. For the holidays, turkeys, hams, cake mixes, Jello, condensed milk, cranberry sauce, marshmallows, Stove Top Stuffing, cream cheese, refrigerated pie crust.
