News Senators Fall to the Panthers

On Saturday, the Snake River Panthers continued a six game winning streak to take out the Gooding Senators with a 34 to 20 victory at Pocatello’s Holt Arena. The first quarter look promising for the Senator who took the lead 8 to 6 after 55 yard touchdown by Shawn Pamplona. The Gooding defense managed to keep the first quarter close which ended with Snake River in the lead 12 to 8. The second and third quarters found the Senators unable move the ball effectively as the Panther extended their lead - 20 to 8 at the half and 34 to 8 at the end of the third quarter. With less than 8 minutes left in the final quarter, the Senator stopped a drive by the Panthers and took possession at their own two yard line. The Senator offense then came alive and a minute and a half later, Cayden Loveland took a touchdown pass to bring the score to 34 and 14. Loveland would catch another pass with less than a minute in the game to make the final score 34 to 20. This Saturday, the 3A championship game will be played at the Holt Arena between the Snake River Panthers and the Fruitland Grizzlies.

November 7th Election Results

City elections don’t usually bring out as many voters as national races. For that reason, change can sometimes take place with relatively few votes. Unofficial results show a change of officials in several of our cities. In Richfield, Levi Long (46) and Mark Whitesell (36) were top vote getters in a five way race for city council. The other candidates were Ron Holland (35), Daniel Ward (32) and Tammy Wayment (17). In Shoshone, Mayor Daniel Pierson will retain his position with 192 votes. Sharon Pennington received 94 votes. In Hagerman, Alan Jay received 102 votes to put him on the city council along with Steven Bland with 97 votes. Carl Jeffries will give up his seat with only 73 votes. In Wendell, Herb Allred took 134 vote for city council. Seaira Gold took 120 vote and will take over the seat held by Francis Parish (68).

The big change was in the City of Gooding. Jeff Brekke beat out Walter Nelson for mayor 286 to 218. For city council Chuck Cram (271) and Colin Smith (254) will take over from Diane Houser (211) and Mel Magnelli (209). In Lincoln County, the Shoshone Joint School District needed a 2/3 majority to approve their bond election. 307 voters said “yes” and 173 voters said “no” leaving the school district two percentage points short of approval. Ten “yes” votes would have given them what they wanted. Also in Lincoln County, Kathy Marsh keeps her seat on the Lincoln County Recreation District with 356 votes over challenger Danny Logan (240). The big winners in the November 7th election were Gooding’s Fire District and the Hagerman Cemetery District. Both entities won nearly 3/4 of voter approval.
