News Fairfield Restaurant Open Again

It seems like it took forever to see the doors open for the new owners of the restaurant at the corner of Highway 20 and Soldier Road in Fairfield. After dealing with plumbing issues and redoing the sidewalks around the building, there was new paint needed on the walls, deep cleaning for every corner, and a multitude of unforeseen problems. But, it was well worth the wait! Charley G’s Grill & Pub is now open Tuesday thru Saturday (8 to 9) and Sundays (8 to 8), and Fairfield newest business owner is no stranger - Shirley Gaskill Bingham. The Gaskills are an old family in Camas County, and the restaurant is named after Shirley’s uncle Charlie. Shirley grew up in Lincoln County

Wild Sweet Pea In Hagerman

This Saturday, November 16th, the Hagerman Valley Chamber will welcome a new business to the Hagerman community - the Wild Sweet Pea Boutique. In mid October, Sandee Bates took the plunge and open her fashion boutique at 220 South State Street (between Bullzz-eye BBQ and the Wilson’s Club) offering stylish clothing, handbags, shoes, and accessories for women. She also has small collection of perfumes and goat milk soap to make every day special. This Saturday, you are invited to an Open House and ribbon cutting starting at 11:00 a.m. There will be delicious snacks and some very special door prizes! If you can’t make the open house, Wild Sweet Pea Boutique is open 10 to 5 Tuesday through Friday and 10 to 4 on watching (and helping) her Saturdays. Hey Guys... Christmas is just around the corner! mother work on the Lincoln County Journal. In the 1990s, her parents (Robert & Darlene Gaskill) purchased a restaurant in Dietrich and Shirley started a “temporary” job at the Eagle’s Nest. Twenty-six years later, she is bringing her famous Chicken Fried Steak to Fairfield. Both Restaurants have the same menu with all your favorite breakfast meals, lunch time sandwiches, and filling dinners. Come in, say hello to Shirley and her manager Tammy Corrigan, and enjoy a great meal with friends and family.

2019 Elections ~ Wins & Losses

Across our three county area there were five bond and/or levy requests for voters to consider. Of the five, only one passed. In Fairfield, voters approved a special revenue bond with nearly 80% in favor of a $1.5 million wastewater project. In Lincoln County, the Courthouse Bond failed to reach the super majority threshold (2/3) needed to start a $6 million renivation project of their historic courthouse. Even with a last minute promise from the county commissioners to reduce the bond amount by about $1 million, the proposal only received 51% approval from the voters. This result is not too surprising since continued on page 6... a $6.8 million school bond also failed in August.
