Fairfield Home to the Country Crumb

Just off Highway 20 on the east side of Fairfield (next to the Forest Service building) there is a coffee shop that has been sitting empty for several years. Last month, the little building came back to life with the opening of the Country Crumb. Sonja Short, a self-taught pastry chef, spent 15 years making desserts from her home and at the College of Idaho where she provided sweets for hundreds of hungry students and teachers.

100 years ago, World War I came to an end on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. That moment was originally commemorated with Armistice Day. In 1954, President Eisenhower signed legislation designated November 11th as a day to remember all veterans with a federal holiday - Veterans Day. Christmas Tree Permits Go On Sale Next Week

The Holidays are fast approaching and permits for cutting Christmas trees for per-

sonal, family use on the Sawtooth National Forest will be available beginning Monday, November 15, 2018 and will be valid until December 25, 2018. The cost of this year’s permit is $10. This permit will enable a family to choose and cut a tree up to 20 feet. There is a limit of one tree per family or organization. Permits will be available at locations throughout the Sawtooth National Forest and surrounding areas: continued on page 3.....
