Exciting End for Musher Soccer Teams
The first and second grade Musher girls soccer team finished strong on Saturday, notching a victory and a tie in their final doubleheader of the season. The team won the first game 4-3 over the Yellow Grizzlies on the strength of goals by veterans Hailey Swenson (1) and Tori Tupper (2). Meriyia Moyer got the fourth goal. The final game was a dogfight against the Wolverines. Our Lil Mushers played one of the most exciting games of the season with an epic come from behind 3-3 draw. Leaders Tori and Hailey would not yield the pitch, hammering the Wolverines relentlessly in the second half connecting on 2 and 1 goals each. Defender Claire Marks shut down the Wolverine attack. Great finish girls! In the older girls game, a victory would have given the fifth and sixth grade team an outright championship, but they could not hold onto their lead against the Navy Blue Seals. A tough fought game ended tied 2-2. The Mushers looked to rout as standout center midfielder Gigi Weber scored early on a bending free kick smash and Phoenix Ferraro added the second goal soon following. But their dominant attack squandered too many opportunities and the short sided girls ran out of steam in the second half, failing to connect on too few chances. The Mushers ended the season tied for first in league standings. Thanks to all who came out and supported these teams all season.
