News November Elections
This Friday, October 27th, will be the first of two Townhall meetings for the Gooding Fire District to be held at the Gooding Fire Department building (422 Idaho Street) from 7 to 9 p.m. These meetings will provide information regarding two ballot items that will (if approved) combine the Gooding Fire Department and the Rural Fire District into one entity. To fund the new Gooding Fire District, a consolidated tax levy will be needed with the resulting rate being slightly higher than the current ones. In addition to the need for a new building with safer and faster access to highways 46 and 26, a single entity would open up more opportunities for grants. The ultimate goal is to improve the department’s ability to prevent and respond to fires in the Gooding area. “Becoming a District allows us, as a whole, to grow and move forward!” said Chief Covey. “The fire service is too dangerous to be stagnant in. We need to be ahead of the game in training and equipment. This allows us to do the best we can to prevent fires and to respond and mitigate the emergencies that are inevitable. We care for our community and you as citizen, family, and friends.” As a reminder, a few of the fire department officers are paid, but the majority of our Gooding firefighters volunteer their time for the training they need to fight fires. If you miss this Friday’s Townhall meeting, a second one will be held on November 3rd, same place and same time. ---- In Lincoln County, Richfield and Shoshone both have contested races for the November 7th election. Five individuals are running for the two open seats on the Richfield City Council. Levi Long, Mark Whitesell, and Tammy Wayment are running for the seats held by Daniel Ward and Ron Holland. In Shoshone, Sharon Pennington is running against Daniel Pierson for Mayor. Tammy Swanner and Payson Reese are unopposed. In Dietrich, because she missed the filing deadline, Connie Anderson is running uncontested for her position on city council as a write-in. There is also a contested race for Lincoln County Recreation District, seat #1. Danny Logan is running against Kathy March the incumbent.
