Schubert Theatre Roof Project To Begin
Press Release The members of the board of Gooding Restoration for entertainment, Arts and Theater (GREAT, Inc.) have signed a contract to begin construction on the upper roof above the stage of the Schubert Theater, to begin November 1, 2017. Richard Creason with Myers-Anderson Architects from Pocatello, Idaho is the lead architect for the restoration of the Schubert beginning with this project. Cost for the total project is approximately $90,000 - $100,000 depending on escalation of the cost of materials. There are 5 layers of tar and other roofing material that has to be removed and taken to the Burley waste site. A special chute has to be built to transfer the material which has to be wrapped for transport in a dump truck which accounts for the high cost of the roof. Although there are enough funds for the construction of the upper roof and part of the lower roof, additional funding for the lower roof is still needed to complete the critical final phase of this project before restoration can begin on the inside. Questions have been raised by some about ownership of the Schubert and it appears there is a misconception that the theatre is privately owned. The Schubert is owned by the charitable nonprofit Gooding Restoration for Entertainment, Arts and Theatre, Inc. As a designated nonprofit by the IRS, donations may be tax deductible. We are very grateful for the funding we have received for this historic roof project from the Idaho Heritage Trust, Idaho Community Foundation, Union Pacific Railroad, Northwest Farm Credit Services and the many local businesses, individual and anonymous donors and volunteers who have generously supported this worthy project in one way or another. GREAT, Inc., welcomes gifts sent as memorials or in honor of individuals on their birthdays, anniversaries, retirement or other special occasions. Gifts can be sent to: GREAT, Inc., PO Box 433, Gooding, Idaho 83330.

November Elections
Tonight at 6 p.m. Gooding City Council candidates will be at the Gooding High School for a Candidate Forum. Jeff Brekke is running against the current Gooding Mayor, Walt Nelson. In the city council race there are four candidates: Chuck Cram and Colin Smith are running against the incumbents Diane Houser and Mel Magnelli. These are not specific seats, so the two candidates with the most votes will be elected to the city council. In Wendell, three candidates are running for the two open seats on the city council - Herb Allred*, Seaira Gold, and Francis Parish*. Lori Swainston is unopposed for the Mayor of Wendell. In Hagerman, Alan Jay, Steven Bland* and Carl Jeffries* are running for two seats on the council. Don Clemmons and Ted James are running unopposed for the Bliss city council. (*incumbents) In Lincoln County, the Shoshone School District is again asking for a $6 million bond to build a new multipurpose building, a vocational building, and other remodeling projects. In August the district received 58% support, but bond elections require a two-thirds supermajority to pass. ---- Looking forward to next year’s Primary Election, Tommy Ahlquist will be at the Lincoln County Community Center in Shoshone this Saturday, October 21st, at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Ahlquist is running for the Republican nomination for Idaho Governor and is touring all 44 counties of Idaho in 44 days to “share his conservative blueprint to build an even better Idaho with all Idahoans.” Each stop is a public event open to all Idahoans to come meet Tommy, listen to his plans, and ask him questions in a public forum format. Come listen to what he has to say, and see if he is what you want for Idaho.
