Press Release

Northwest Farm Credit Services is proud to award the Gooding Volunteer Group in Gooding, Idaho, a $1,500 Northwest FCS Rural Community Grant. “The Gooding Volunteer Group is pleased to accept the community grant,” said Public Relations Volunteer Becca Pereira. “It will us help purchase nature-themed playground equipment for Gooding’s West Park, which will be a wonderful gathering place for families in our community to enjoy for years to come. Thank you for your support!” Northwest FCS is committed to helping rural communities succeed. In 2018, Northwest Farm Credit Services committed over $297,000 to 187 projects in rural communities across Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. New Locations for WIC Clinics

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) helps families afford supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education. Specifically, the program helps low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and infants and children up to age five who are at nutritional risk. However, families are often unable to access the services they need because of work or limited transportation. To address this issue, South Central Public Health District has announced two new WIC clinics: one in Twin Falls (El Milagro housing on 1122 Washington Street S.) and one in Ketchum (Wood River YMCA on 101 Saddle Road). These clinic are considered mobile since they have limited hours. Also, the Shoshone Public Health clinic has moved to the old DMV office at 119 West A Street. WIC is available there on the first Wednesday and Thursday and the third Friday of every month from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visit www.phd5.idaho.gov/WIC for information/schedules.

Restoration Continues at Schubert Theatre

GREAT, Inc. has received a matching grant award notice in the amount of $10,000 from the Idaho Heritage Trust (IHT) for the repair and repointing of the exterior masonry of Gooding’s historic Schubert Theatre (built in 1920 by Governor Frank R. Gooding). The Idaho Heritage Trust funds various projects throughout Idaho using royalty payments from IHT’s trademarked license plate design (the red & blue design with trees and mountains). Gooding Restoration for Entertainment, Arts and Theatre (aka GREAT, Inc.) has also received notice of a $3,000 grant from the Idaho Community Foundation to do restoration and preservation work on the theatre. The incredible work and progress on this project is due to the hard work of the GREAT, Inc. Board of Directors, along with the generosity and charitable donations of their partners, the Gooding community, and volunteers. Here’s where the project currently stands: the building now has a new roof; and conceptual drawings have been done for the project. The next steps include: getting the brick and mortar repaired and sealed; taking bids to clean and paint the cornice above the entrance; and getting a web page up and running. -- -- - The GREAT, Inc. Board of Directors offers thanks to all who have and all who continue to support this project. “BRAVO to all of our GREAT stars and MANY THANKS to the
