Shoshone Welcomes New Pharmacy

ng i n e p O Grand th 0 2 y r a Janu Community Vision Meeting Thursday, January 19th

This Thursday at 7 p.m., a community meeting will be held at the Gooding High School Multipurpose Room (1050 7th Ave West). All interested community members are invited to hear and comment on the plans for the restoration of the historical Schubert Theatre. Meyers-Anderson Architects from Pocatello, Idaho, and board members of GREAT INC, will be on hand to discuss the roof project and the long term goals of restoring this Gooding landmark. GREAT INC. anounced this week, a very generous $3,900 grant from the Curtis Turner Memorial Fund, Unrestricted Southwestern Region in the Idaho Community Foundation. These funds will be used for the 2nd phase on the roof project to replace the metal siding above the stage front and back, metal material caps to go over the sides and the top of the parapet walls. The replacement of the roof is critical before the inside restoration begins. In addition to this grant, GREAT INC received in 2016 an additional $750 from the King’s Stores Funds in the ICF, as well as funds from continued on page 6 .....

It has been 15 years since the folks in Lincoln County could fill their medical prescriptions locally, but in December they received a Christmas gift with the opening of a new pharmacy. Located on South Apple Street, one block south of the Shoshone City office and right across the street from the Shoshone Family Medical Center, the Shoshone Pharmacy is a much need addition to that community. The Shoshone Pharmacy is owned by the Gooding Pharmacy and thanks to modern technology, Shelby Lancaster (the pharmacy manager in Gooding) is also the pharmacist in Shoshone. Through the use of telepharmacy, Shelby can counsel individuals about new prescriptions, then turn them over to the local

technician, Ashley Garcia, CPhT. Having a local pharmacy is a great benefit to the residences of Lincoln County during bad weather, and when illness makes it difficult to travel for their medications. This Friday, January 20th, the Shoshone Pharmacy will hold a GRAND OPENING from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include complimentary refreshments, goodie bag givea-way (while they last), door prizes, and prize drawings to win a plasma TV (must enter to win). The Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will also be on hand for a RIBBON CUTTING at noon. The pharmacy is open Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you need to contact them, call 208-886-2000.

Idaho’s Water Supply Off To A Strong Start

NRCS Press Release

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) just released the first water supply outlook report for the 2017 water year. The season got off to a wet start with October precipitation ranging from 200% of average in the Bear River and up to 350% in Idaho’s Northern Panhandle Region. Many SNOTEL stations received record high October precipitation which was followed by a dry November. “January 15th marks winter’s half way point for the winter’s snowfall in our mountains,” said Ron Abramovich, Water Supply Specialist with the NRCS state office in Boise. “The recent warmer temperatures and rain allowed the mountain snowpack to

settle for the first time this season.” The highest snowpacks are in the state’s Owyhee and Upper Snake River basins at 130 to 140% of median. The lowest snowpacks are between 65 and 80% of average in the Panhandle Region. Based on Idaho’s Surface Water Supply Index, which combines reservoir storage and streamflow forecasts, water supplies around the state look promising. Idaho’s reservoirs and lakes are in good shape to catch any early season melt. “As we start the second half of winter this month, we’re going to be keeping a close eye on snow totals, the freezing line and storm intensity,” Abramovich said. “The intensity and the type of precipitation (rain versus snow) may make the next three months of this water year as interesting as the first three.” For information on specific basins, streams, and reservoirs, you can view the full report online at January Water Supply Outlook Report.
