Schubert Theatre Receives Idaho Heritage Trust Grant GREAT, INC. has been awarded a very generous $9,000 matching grant from the Idaho Heritage Trust for the 2nd phase of work to replace the roof of the historic Schubert Theatre in Gooding. The replacement of the roof is critical before the inside restoration begins. Funds received in 2016 from the Union Pacific Railroad, NW Farm Credit, GoFundMe, and community support will be used as matching fund money. Plans for the restoration will be presented to the public by MeyersAnderson Architects, Pocatello, ID and GREAT, INC. at a “Community Vision Forum” Thursday, January 19th at the Gooding High School Multipurpose Room (1050 7th Ave West) at 7:00 p.m. All interested community members are invited to

share their input! The historic Schubert Theatre was built in 1920 by Governor Frank R. Gooding for whom the county and city of Gooding is named as a wedding gift for his daughter and Adam Schubert, his former secretary. The interior has 6 murals painted by Hugo Clausen in the art deco style and a hand painted backdrop of Shoshone Falls signed by Ernest Miller dated 1920. There are also many signatures on basement door frames and doors dated back to the 1920’s with the names of the plays that the actors were starred in. More than half of IHT grants are awarded to rural communities with populations of 5,000 or fewer, said Executive Director Katherine Kirk. This year, 33 projects received matching grants totaling $147,444; also

approved by trustees was $53,000 in architectural conservation and archaeological assistance to organizations all over the state. GREAT, INC. is very grateful to be one of the recipients chose for such a generous grant. Idaho Heritage Trust grants are awarded annually through requests coming from all over Idaho, especially small communities. For more information and donations: GREAT, INC., P.O.
