Gooding Rotary Supports Local Projects

The Gooding Rotary hosted their first annual Cheese and Wine Fest, on October 22, 2015 at the Gooding Country Club. Chairman Kathy Stone and her committee hosted a fun event for the entire community. The Rotary members would like to give a special thanks to Ballard Cheese and Glandbia Cheese, along with Thousand Springs, Cold Springs and The Crossings wineries, for the cheese and wine tasting. All of the proceeds went to benefit

the fundraising activities of the Gooding Rotary Club, the Gooding Rotary scholarship fund and the Gooding Volunteer Group, for their “playground equipment fund.” Rotary Club President, Sue Bolton, presented a check for $1,000 Becca Sliman and Dallas Scoffield (photo to the right) of the Gooding Volunteer Group. To help others celebrate the Holidays, the Gooding Rotary Club members also donated 250 Jell-O/pudding mixes, 250 Cake Mixes and 40 Turkeys to the Helping Hearts and Hands Food Bank, located in Gooding.

Property Tax Reduction

After paying their property taxes on December 20, many residents may be wondering if there is any relief for those with a limited income. Help is out there. The Idaho Property Tax Relief Program, administered by the county assessor’s office, can assist qualified taxpayers in reducing their tax burden. The property tax relief program works on a sliding scale with the state paying a portion of the property taxes, up to $1,320 on the home and up to one acre, depending on the taxpayer’s income. This money will never have to be paid back but the taxpayer does need to apply every year. There are three criteria to see if someone qualifies for the property tax reduction. 1. They have to have owned and lived in their home before April 15, 2016. 2. Their 2015 income has to be up to $29,470. This is after deducting medical expenses. 3. The applicant has to meet one, or more, of the fol lowing requirements on Jan.1, 2016: continued on page 6.....
