News Looking for a Job? Come to Idaho
According to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, Idaho is number one for job growth. At nearly twice the national average, Idaho’s 2016 job growth was 3.5% with no sign of slowing down. In real numbers, Idaho businesses created 19,200 new jobs in 2015 and 23,580 jobs in 2016. These jobs have translated into an unemployment rate of 3.7% for Idaho workers. Companies, both old and new, are expanding in the Gem State. Booming aerospace and tech industries (Micron Technology, Cradlepoint, etc), as well as military bases that boost spending in surrounding areas, is attracting residents from other states. Agribusiness firms are also growing: J.R. Simplot is looking to hire 600 for a new processing plant in Kuna; Yogurt maker Chobani is expanding its plant in Twin Falls; and American Food Equipment is building a new manufacturing facility
in Caldwell. Idaho is not the only Northwest state doing well economically. Oregon and Washington (#4 & #7 for job growth) are also drawing workers away from high population states like California. The Idaho Department of Commerce is extremely optimistic about 2017, and not just for big business. According to Entrepreneur Magazine, Idaho is number six for small business start-up.

On my way home from Twin Falls a few days ago, I stopped at a cafe just off of I-84. I figured I would get me a mushroom swiss burger. I told my waitress I would take the mushroom burger, but would also like to add some pepperjack cheese. She was ok with that. I asked what kind of pie she had to be served. She gave me a run down and I told her I would take a slice of banana cream, but I wanted it before my burger. She replied, “You want it before your burger?” “Yes,” I answered. “I’ll eat my pie while you’re cook- insist on what you want.
