Ceremonies take place in the restored High Barn with exposed stonework and wooden beams which can hold 85 guests. This space will then get transformed into an evening reception for 180 loved ones.

When tying the knot here the venue provides a food taster evening as part of the wedding package.

helsea and Daniel’s love story started when they first met online and started talking – as time went on they discovered more about each other. What wasn’t supposed to turn into anything long-term resulted into them falling in love. Chelsea says, “I’m not exactly sure the moment I realised he was the one, there just came a time when I couldn’t imagine life without him.”

During a night away in Manchester, the pair set off for a romantic meal in the evening and Daniel took advantage of this special moment and popped the question!

M

ichael and Rebekah first discovered each other online and decided to go on a date to the cinema.

“I can remember talking on the first night where we clicked so quickly,” says Rebekah. “I invited him round to cook together and watch The X Factor for our third date. I felt so comfortable in my environment with this man I felt so connected to!”

Michael proposed on the 2nd August 2017, during a break away to Ardencote spa resort in Warwickshire for Rebekah’s birthday. He says, “We went for a stroll around the grounds after dinner when I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. Rebekah burst out crying and said yes!”

SETTING THE SCENE

The couple fell in love with the mesmerising views that The Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club offered. The number one goal when planning the wedding was to make sure everything had significance to the couple’s journey and future. The travel theme highlighted all the beautiful moments and memories shared during their adventures from around the world. Each table was named after a location with mini-travel suitcases full of sweets from that area.

This included Rome, Italy, Algarve, Portugal, Warwickshire, Barbados and the top table was Bali.

Guests could easily locate where they were seated because of the world map with polaroid pictures that was used for the table plan. In the middle of the tables were candles, photos and beautiful artificial flowers that matched the colour scheme perfectly.

The couple worked hard to ensure the venue looked perfect for their rustic vision and found rustic candle holders, picture frames, globes and created an entrance piece with a giant crate with the items found. Rebekah says, “Instead of going for a photo booth, we had a bespoke rustic wooden wall made with mauve flowers and a rustic banner. We included a vintage suitcase and photo props along with a camera for our guests to use in the evening!”

Guests didn’t go hungry with the multiple food options available.

The wedding breakfast consisted of their favourite foods including lamb, and there was an Italian stone-baked pizza van outside for guest in the evening. There was even a rustic Italian-inspired dessert table with cheesecakes, gateau, chocolate cakes and more!

The nearlyweds already knew the perfect baker for their wedding cake after using Red Robin Cakery for birthdays and gender reveal cakes in the past. The design was white with outlines of the world map on.

LOOKING THE PART Rebekah knew she wanted a plain and simple dress on her wedding day. She says, “I didn’t connect with myself and how I looked until I was given a beautiful bracelet from my husband-to-be, which made me feel so special and ready to marry him!”

Michael wore a Ted Baker suit in a charcoal colour with a silver waistcoat while the groomsmen wore a charcoal-coloured waistcoat and ties to match the colour scheme. He says, “I loved how similar our suits were, but how different I looked on the day in comparison – I felt like a king that day and I was ready to marry my queen.”

The maid-of-honour, Rebekah’s sister, discovered the blushcoloured bridesmaid dresses that the bridal party looked incredible in on the day.

TIME TO CELEBRATE To keep guests entertained in the evening, Michael’s brother was the DJ who knew what music the couple would want and created the perfect atmosphere with a packed dancefloor.

The couple’s first dance was a moment to treasure forever. “We had made a conscious effort to not listen to our song Butterflies by Michael Jackson for a whole year, once it started playing it took us right back to the first time we ever danced together,” says the bride.

“We zoned out from the guests, but our families were right there with us completely in awe, when we looked back at videos it was a beautiful everlasting moment.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

Rebekah felt so nervous when getting ready on the morning of the wedding until she arrived at the church with her dad. She says, “My bridal party and son were waiting outside, but he didn’t want to walk. So I asked him to find daddy and as he spotted Michael at the end of the aisle he ran down and gave him the biggest cuddle!

I melted and cried my eyes out, which didn’t stop until after the ceremony.” She adds, “It was a beautiful moment and reality kicked in that our perfect day had begun and I was going to marry my best friend!”

The best man and the father-of-the-bride’s speech really stood out to the pair; due to their humorous nature - they were surrounded by so much love and happiness.

HONEYMOON

Michael planned their honeymoon, the pair jetted off to Bali for two weeks.“From the scenery to the food and people – it was the best trip we’ve been on,” he says. “The first week we did all the tourist attractions and saw the beauty of Bali in Ubud and then we stayed in a beautiful, secluded, Hilton resort with a beach and views to die for! Here we relaxed, ate, swam and slept.”

arshana and Matt met at a mutual friend’s 40th birthday party.

“I was attracted to his beautiful kind eyes, his playful nature, sense of adventure, optimistic approach to life, his generosity and love for his family and friends,” says Darshana. “I know that he will always be there for me and encourage and support my decisions.”

Matt was attracted to her beauty, humour, sense of adventure and creativity. He says, “She’ll always strive to make me a better man.”

Matt popped the question during a trip to Cyprus to celebrate Darshana’s 40th birthday. She says, “We’d spent the day sightseeing and driving around checking out wineries, pretty villages and soaking up the Cypriot way of life. We were driving down a mountain and decided to stop at a viewpoint to take a photo. Matt had bought his professional camera and told me to face the mountains so he could take a photo of me. I was waiting for the click but didn’t hear it and turned around to find him down on one knee!”

We were due to get married in June, this got postponed to October and then we had to fast track to September to be able to have 30 guests. It was all hands on deck for three days, but it was the best day ever!

Our families and friends joined us in celebrating love and life.

We wanted a wedding that embraced both Indian and Welsh culture and traditions.

We were only able to have a Hindu wedding this year and will have the reception party in the near future.

The flowers were autumnal to match the time of year.

Catthorpe Manor Estate is beautiful with stunning rooms and accommodation. We loved the breathtaking grounds and countryside views – it was the perfect venue and we found just in the nick of time!

The venue had stunning chandeliers and twinkly fairylights.

Matt arrived in a 4x4 SUV Mercedes.

I felt a million dollars when I saw myself; I couldn’t believe it was me!

Our outfits were tailor-made by Kiran’s Birmingham; we wanted a regal and romantic look while being comfortable.

Matt couldn’t have his best men with him, but his brother-in-laws stepped in!

Matt wore a subtle pink and nude modern sherwani with a velvet shawl to match the colour of my outfit. He also had an emerald green semi-precious stone necklace.

We were devastated that we couldn’t have all our family and friends with us and had to cut our guest list from 300 to 30.

However, having a small intimate wedding where were could spend quality time with our nearest and dearest was so beautiful.

All our guests who couldn’t come were invited over Zoom – they all had front row seats!

Given the short time frame we had, we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s flexibility and support. This includes our families, friends, suppliers and each other!

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we couldn’t go anywhere long haul and decided to have a minimoon in Cornwall.

Our top tip would be to ensure you and your partner are on the same page, find the time to communicate and share your stress and anxiety.

om and Gemma first met 12 years ago after being introduced by a family member at a festival, Summer Sundae at De Montfort Hall, Leicester.

Gemma says, “The day we met was love at first sight, it was the moment we knew we would be together and we were right.”

Fast forward 10 years, the couple were having birthday cocktails at Manhattan 34 discussing how perfect the space would be for a wedding.

Gemma comments, “Tom pretty much asked me there and then to marry him.

Like us, the proposal was laid-back and that’s exactly what we wanted the wedding to be.”

ere at Your East Midlands Wedding, we’re obsessed with this beautiful shoot located at Meadow Vale Weddings – an outdoor venue set in the rolling hills of Nottinghamshire. The dry hire space is the perfect location to exchange vows surrounded by beautiful scenery with picture perfect fields and woodland.

Shoot coordinator Linzi Barford from that black & white cat weddings says, “The countryside was our inspiration behind the day, the fantastic team at Sami Tipi provided a tipi, which worked well alongside the venue’s glamping yurt accommodation, glamping bell tents and haybale ceremony area. The décor was created using a dark green colour palette mixed with forest greens alongside soft cream and peach tones.”

She adds, “We included some fun elements such as a custom hand-painted leather jacket, handmade bee bouquet and even unicorn wellies!”

We’re having a winter wedding, but what do we need to take into consideration to ensure we still get the perfect images?

One of the big myths I find as a wedding photographer is that couples are worried that winter weather and shorter daylight hours will mean they cannot get their dream wedding photos. When a couple is choosing a winter wedding, I’d always offer the following key considerations: ❤ Plan for rain and be pleasantly surprised if it’s dry. ❤ Make sure the venue is beautiful inside in case it rains all day. ❤ Ensure your photographer walks the venue with you beforehand at the planning meeting to work out indoor and outdoor options of portraits rather than waste time on the day thinking about it. ❤ Choose a photographer who can work creatively with flash and wider photographer lighting. ❤ Factor in enough time for creative lighting photography. ❤ Make sure you’ve seen plenty of winter wedding photography from the photographer before committing to use them. ❤ Remember when creating a schedule that daylight hours are reduced in winter.

I’d love to give you some tips for getting your budget together and to help keep track of spending. There are so many venues to choose from. What factors should I consider to help narrow down the search?

Your wedding is really all about you, so ideally you should compromise on as little as possible. The primary consideration when choosing your venue is its flexibility to suit your wishes. Take into consideration if you have a choice of caterers and provide your own alcohol without corkage. Can you use any other suppliers and decorate the venue however you want? Make sure you can bring along as many guests as you need and check if you have exclusivity of the venue for the day to allow more privacy.

There are also a couple of other questions that need to be answered; these are more about feelings but are no less important.

Does being at the venue make you happy and do you trust this venue to behave decently in these uncertain times? Can you picture your wedding at this venue and does that picture fit with what you always dreamed of?

THE CROWN AND THE David Emanuel shares his top tips to help you say “yes” to the dress

ashion designer and broadcaster David Emanuel is a much-loved household name, regarded as the don of bridal fashion since creating that iconic wedding dress for Lady Diana Spencer 40 years ago. CWM’s Kelly Andrews caught up with him at the launch of Bromley Brides’ new Wonder Room to find out about his plans for celebrating this career milestone.

What advice would you give to a bride-to-be setting foot inside a bridal boutique for the very first time?

Try to keep an open mind and be objective.

Think about what you’ve got at home. You might have an evening dress and you love the shape. So, why don’t you think about that same shape for your wedding dress?

A lot of brides get completely wound up, particularly the ones who’ve over-shopped.

When they tell me they’ve tried on 200 dresses, there’s clearly something wrong there. Equally, they might come in with a set idea – “I want skin tight, I want sexy.”

It’s interesting, as it changes. I’ll say to them, “Put it on and look in the mirror. On your wedding day, are you going to be comfortable?” Then of course, you’ve got to take the time of year into account, where it’s happening, where the party’s going to be and all of that.

What do you need to consider before you start shopping?

It’s all to do with the personality and character of the bride. If she’s a showy girl, that’s lovely, put her in a showy frock, but if she’s quiet, put her in something more modest.

I go back mostly to Say Yes To The Dress, when the first question I ask is: “Do you have a budget?” She might say £3,000 and we can stretch to various styles with that.

Then she’ll say, “I want more,” at which point the mother pipes up saying she’ll throw in another thousand. If they’d just said that in the beginning it would have been an

FASHION INTERVIEW easier task. I tell you, that show kept me on my toes!

It doesn’t have to be fantasy; you need simplicity for longevity.

What are the common pitfalls that brides should avoid when dress shopping?

Invariably, brides will go on the internet and they’ll see these very glamourous models wearing these fabulous dresses, and they’ll rip pages out of magazines, but are they being realistic? Look in the mirror and be honest with yourself, try to be objective. I know it’s difficult, but look at yourself and think: what do I really want?

You’ll go through various stages; you’re not going to get the first dress. I’ll suggest something, and the bride might say she couldn’t possibly, but I’ll insist she slip into it. Once she realises how great she looks, we go down a different path. So, keep an open mind, and let the girls at the boutique do their job, which is to make you look wonderful. You’ve got to trust them. Don’t forget: they’ve dressed hundreds of brides.

Do you think the Covid-19 pandemic has had an effect on the way brides think?

I think, if anything, it’s got to completely focus the brides, because they’re under pressure. They might have booked, then have to unbook, and they’ve got to replan.

It’s changing by the day – guest numbers are limited, but you know what? That’s not a bad thing actually. Let’s think about it: you don’t have to worry about auntie Flossie and uncle Albert who you only see once every two years! All that pressure is gone. You really should want just the people who love you to be there. Then, if you want to have a bigger party next year, or whenever, the heat is taken off. It should be a joyous time, enjoy it.

Based on your experience on Say Yes To The Dress UK, what’s your take on the ever expanding bridal entourage?

Too much! You might have six people, with six points of view, six different tastes. No, we’re concerned with the bride. Sometimes, even the bride’s mum can’t get it, so you’ve got to rely on the very good stylists at your boutique, who are there to help you.

What are your tips for creating the ultimate timeless look?

You want to keep it relatively simple, but dramatic. You see, an iconic wedding gown has to have something about it – Diana’s was a 25ft train. Well, it needed drama, this was St Pauls, it was enormous, you couldn’t do a simple, quiet little dress. Or like Meghan’s gown – the story on that dress was the embroidered flowers from the Commonwealth. Big veil, but that was her message, and that was a simple dress.

Tell us about your involvement with Bromley Brides.

When I found out (owner) Becky Griggs had been planning to expand and was still going ahead, I thought that was really courageous. I was blown away by the store the first time I came here, it looks great. I like people who take risks, good for her!

It’s the 40th anniversary of Princess Diana’s iconic wedding dress next year.

Do you have any plans to mark the occasion?

I never thought I’d be sitting here talking about 40 years! I don’t know where the time’s gone, it’s like a dream. A lot has happened in my life, and this is a very exciting time. We’ve been bombarded by people wanting to do interviews and documentaries, so we’ve got to sit down, let the dust settle and go through everything.

When I travel the world, designing Diana’s wardrobe is my calling card – everyone knows who I am because of it.

Everywhere I go, people talk very highly of her, and it’s exciting that people still want to do something for her.

What was it like to work with Princess Diana?

She was the sweetest girl, as divine as you saw

her, no different. It wasn’t all done for the TV and press, she really was lovely. One time we were doing a fitting at Buckingham Palace and we didn’t have our van with us that day, so she asked us how we were getting back. We were planning to call a black cab, but she insisted on taking us herself. She had this little Ford, so we climbed in - Diana driving, me in the front and Elizabeth in the back. It was hysterical, when we stopped at traffic lights, people were aghast. There she was, giggling, it was so much fun. That’s what I remember about her, the fun.

I was very fortunate, very honoured and lucky to design several foreign tours for her, and there were a lot of clothes to be done.

She’d ring on a Monday and say, “Hi, it’s me.” She’d go on to say that she’d got something special and had nothing to wear, so I quickly had to think. We’d turn up the next day with sketches and some fabrics, and by Friday it was all wrapped and sent for her to wear that evening. We had to turn it around fast, and do you know, without fail she’d always say, “Thank you so much, I know you worked so hard.” It was touching.

If you’re lucky along this road, you’ll meet one or two special people and she was one of them.

You’ve dressed plenty of famous bodies over the years, who was your most memorable?

I was in Paris, as Elizabeth Taylor couldn’t come to London for a fitting. She was at the George V Hotel in a huge suite, and I put her in a chocolate brown Chantilly lace cocktail dress. She looked fabulous and I didn’t have to put one pin in it. She threw open the double doors, and burst through them crying, “Franco, Franco, what do you think?” There he was, Franco Zeffirelli, the film director! All I could think was: “OK David, keep calm.” He loved the dress, but, she said, there was just one little problem.

She would be wearing it to the White House and might have to dance with the President, but wasn’t sure she could. With that I grabbed her and spun her around the whole suite. “I think I can dance in this dress,” she said when we stopped waltzing.

Listen, when those eyes fixed on you it was all over. She was special, she was real.

It’s magic, private moments like that, which make your career, they’re precious. As I’m saying it, I could be back there, it seems like yesterday. Yet, I can’t believe… 40 years!

Q: I have very dry skin and I’m worried my make-up won’t look right on my wedding day. What advice can you share with me?

A: Natalie says: Firstly, let’s try to find out why you have dry skin. Is it incorrect skincare, a condition such as eczema, or even additional factors such as central heating and harsh weather at the moment? Once you find the cause, you can work on relieving the dryness to make you feel more comfortable.

Secondly, I’d recommend seeing a skin specialist or facialist for some TLC treatments on the run-up to your wedding day so you feel less selfconscious.

And thirdly, it’s all in the prep for the make-up. As long as skin is hydrated with professional products your makeup will last longer, feel nicer to wear and look beautiful. Opt for hydrating primers, moisturisers and setting sprays.

Q: What is the most effective way to reduce frizz?

A: Robyn says: Start by investing in a good moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Apply a treatment oil through the mid-lengths and ends after you’ve washed it while it’s still wet – Moroccan Oil do a great moisturising range!

The next trick is all in the blow drying. You may have to dry it yourself on your wedding morning or your stylist may want to do this for you. Use a brush and a hairdryer with a nozzle on and follow the hairdryer down the hair with the brush. Direct the air flow down the hair shaft, this will smooth the cuticle to eliminate frizz and leave the hair smooth and shiny.

The best heated appliances to use for frizzy hair are straighteners and curling tongs; this is because you can get the heat on both sides of the hair rather than just one like with a wand.

When styling, it’s all about using moisturising products like styling cremes and shine sprays. It’s important to eliminate the frizz as you go rather than at the end when it will be more difficult.

Follow all these steps and you’ll have the smoothest, frizz-free hair!
