ersonally I love this time of year, although the weather can still be nippy, there’s the promise of sunny days ahead and the spring flowers are coming into bloom. I don’t know about you, but from the moment the clocks go forward, I immediately feel more energised. The days seem longer and it’s great to leave home and return from work in the daylight.

Feeling newly energised, I’m preparing to get to grips with all those niggling tasks at home that I’ve mothballed over the winter. So, if like me, you’ve been a bit sluggish with the to-do list over the winter, now is the time to get cracking. This issue is packed with positivity, seasonal inspiration and real weddings to help you. Set on the Ipswich waterfront, this historic venue has a story to tell spanning centuries. Once a wool merchant’s home and way of life, The Grade I and Grade II* listed building has been lovingly restored and now provides a unique setting for weddings. Some of the oldest parts are thought to date back to between 1430 and 1550. There’s original features throughout, including exposed beams and vaulted ceilings with equipment used during the building’s industrious past on display.

The ceremony room, formally known as the Sale Room, is in a part of the building built between 1530 and 1550. Stone steps lead into the timber-framed space, once used for storing wool cloth for exporting, now

a magical place to tie the knot and celebrate afterwards with up to 50 guests. There’s a variety of other options for the wedding breakfast and reception including the Crossways or Barley Room, ideal for intimate weddings. hen Drew proposed to Beth in December 2018 little did they know then how long their journey down the aisle was going to take. He popped the question in Barcelona, where Beth had enjoyed an unforgettable trip during her university day. “I’d spent the previous two years raving about it and the city’s La Sagrada Familia Basilica, so he decided it as the perfect place to pop the question,” Beth explains. However, his plan was almost scuppered on the way in. “Despite previously describing the building in great detail to him, he was completely unaware of the airportstyle security as you go in and was scrabbling about, shoving me through first so I didn’t see the ring box which he had to take out of his pocket to pass through the scanning machine!” Despite the unexpected hitch, she said ‘yes’, of course. Organising the wedding didn’t turn out quite as they’d hoped though after Covid struck and put pay to their original date. They ended up having to postpone four times before eventually tying the knot on 8th November last year.

lthough Ella and Hamish both grew up in Haverhill and knew each other through mutual friends and parties, it wasn’t until after Ella moved away to university in Wolverhampton that they actually began talking. “It started with a text from Hamish wishing me a happy New Year,” remembers Ella. Romance blossomed and after a year working away, on and off, Hamish booked a sunshine holiday in the Maldives for the two of them. “Despite many of my friends saying that he must be planning to propose, I was in complete denial,” says Ella. So, as they headed out for dinner one evening, when Hamish stopped to take a sunset photo and got down on one knee to ask her to marry him, it came as a complete surprise. “We spent the rest of the evening FaceTiming, calling and messaging our friends and family before sitting down and writing out our guest list!”

THE TIME AND PLACE When it came to the venue hunt, they visited a number of different locations before finally finding the perfect setting. “We knew we wanted a traditional house and to get married outside in the summer and when we saw Chippenham Park, it ticked all the boxes,” enthuses Ella. “The gardens were absolutely stunning and we couldn’t fault the venue in any way. The entrance, marquee, lake and the historic building itself were all beautiful!”

LOOKING THE PART After shopping around for her dream dress at a couple of bridal shops, Ella had a good idea of what she wanted, but couldn’t quite find the one. Until arriving at Adella Bridal, just outside Norwich, that is! What’s more, the gown she fell in love with was designed by the owner of the shop. “This meant I was able to tweak or change anything I wanted, so I had a square back without the mesh and a slightly lower V-neck. I completed the look with pearl earrings and a pearl bracelet that Hamish bought me as a wedding present,” explains Ella.

Hamish wore a smart black suit with contrasting grey check waistcoat, sky blue tie and ivory pocket square. The groomsmen had the same but with darker waistcoats so Hamish stood out from the crowd.

SUNSHINE AND SHOWERS Despite all the careful planning and organisation, the weather was the one thing that was out of everyone’s control on the big day. However, although it was raining slightly all morning, the wedding party, family and friends styled it out with white Chippenham Park umbrellas and the al fresco ceremony went ahead regardless.

“Walking down the aisle just felt so surreal. We had been advised to make time to take it all in and we did, but the whole day still seemed to fly by,” recalls Ella. Later in the day, the rain stopped and after the speeches they were able to go outside for some fresh air and to enjoy the glorious gardens.

THE PERSONAL TOUCHES The wedding marquee was decked out for the reception with beautiful white and green flowers and foliage, including tall and low-level arrangements for the centrepieces, and simple table numbers in frames. The table plan was designed to match their save-the-date cards and invitations.

Ella says, “Sam, our florist, was amazing and really listened to my ideas (which were rather vague) and created a masterpiece. The bouquets were stunning, they were used to decorate our top table too and matched the beautiful reception displays perfectly.”

Instead of a traditional wedding cake they went for a stack of their favourite brownies. Ella explains, “We weren’t too fussed about having cakecutting photos, so we started looking at alternatives and discovered our local brownie company catered for weddings and thought it would be much better to have something we both love.”

TIME TO CELEBRATE Family and friends were kept entertained by a magician followed by a live band in the evening. “Our guests loved both and still talk about the magician now. He was a big hit with the kids too and they followed him around all day!” adds Ella.

hen Amanda met Frank she was attending a driver awareness course with her friend Felicity, who introduced them both. “She knew him as a family friend and he worked at the centre as the driver training manager,” explains Amanda. They hit it off and the rest, as they say, is history!

After three-and-a-half years together, Frank popped the question in front of a crowd at a Motown weekend at Gunton Hall in Lowestoft. “We were there with friends and during the evening

he arranged with one of the performers to serenade me on stage while he snuck round the back. Then, as the song finished and I turned around, he got down on one knee and proposed in front of everyone,” reveals Amanda. “The whole audience cheered when I said ‘yes’. It was very emotional and totally unexpected!”

They tied the knot on Bacton Beach followed by a reception at the waterside Liberty Restaurant in Wroxham on 3rd July, 2021.

Everyone had a great time chatting and catching up with each other.

our wedding album should be a treasured memento of your big day so you want it to be packed with fab photos to reflect all the magical moments. Although fashions may change and hairstyles come and go, the memories are timeless and will be captured forever if you find the right photographer to suit you as a couple and the style of your wedding. It’s one of the most important bookings you’ll make, so it‘s well worth investing the time to get it right. Research online and scour our pages to get a flavour of what local photographers have to offer – there’s a wealth of talent in the region, so there’s plenty to choose from. Start early though as creative, reliable photographers are in big demand and get booked up well in advance. Also, be sure to take enough time to get those all-important couple shots. Rather than lots of group photos, candid images of people during the day are a much better reflection of your actual wedding.

After the stress of being late for the ceremony, once bride Laura was married she was so happy and relieved, all that worry disappeared. She got to be herself and gave me her style of fun. This shot, as she was driven off to the reception as Mrs Henderson, is now one of my favourites.

Remember to relax when you go for your couple shots on the wedding day.

I tell my couples to drop their shoulders, take a few deep breaths and remember that you’re just there to spend time together. Then you’ll get some awesome organic images with a little relaxed direction from me.

It’s not about me leading the shoot, more about you enjoying each other’s company for me to capture.

I often get asked about confetti shots and how best to capture them and I always say just ignore the camera and enjoy the moment. For Evangeline and Ashley’s November wedding at the White Dove Barns, Suffolk I asked guests to throw the confetti over the couple, rather than at them, which allowed me to capture some nice facial expressions and shoot through the confetti for a lovely blurred effect.

I love the getting ready part as I can get to know the bridal party, have a laugh and occasionally do a fun photo with them all to mark the occasion. For this photo, the bride Lanassir and all the girls sat together for some traditional photos and then we went to town and did some crazy shots, which made everyone happy and much more relaxed before the ceremony.

o you’ve got your dream dress, now it’s time to get the other important members of the bridal party sorted. If you’re looking for a coordinated look for the whole gang, it pays to get organised early on. Communication is key and if your bridesmaids all live nearby, a few girlie nights in with fabric swatches, colour charts and a bottle of fizz or two, can all be part of the fun. If your squad is scattered far and wide there’s always FaceTime or Zoom to help you stay connected. The main thing is to try and keep everyone involved and excited for the big day to come.

to avoid sweltering in summer or shivering in winter. The type of venue is a key factor too if you want a look to complement the setting and feel of your wedding. ❤ If distance prevents you getting together with your besties to choose and try on dresses, there are a number of great one-style-fits-all multiway ranges available that can be worn to suit different sizes and shapes. ❤ Alternatively a mix-and-match look can be stunning. She says, “Not all mums feel happy to stand out on their daughter or son’s wedding day. HATS ON Hat or no hat? It’s not an everyday dilemma and it can be hard to decide but if you can’t find what you want in the shops, you can always have one made to match your wedding outfit perfectly. What’s more, a statement hat is a great way to stand out and helps distinguish the mums from other wedding guests. Anne Reeder of Ipswich-based Anne Reeder Millinery specialises in bespoke hats and headpieces for weddings and special occasions and has a ready-to-wear range too. She says, “My bespoke hats can be like the ones in my collection or individually designed, but they are all one-off pieces so no two are exactly the same. I’m always aware that some people love wearing hats and headpieces while others try to avoid it unless absolutely necessary!

So, when designing individual headwear I take this into account, along with the customer’s face and body shape and personality.”

She says, “The classic styles continue to be popular for weddings including hats with big brims, saucer- and button-style headpieces along with halo hats trimmed with flowers, bows and lots of feathers. My latest collection reflects this with fabulous raspberry pink and red shades trimmed with orange or lime green, as well as bright yellow, blue, black and white. With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations this year, there are also shapes inspired by the special anniversary emblem and Royal Jubilee rose.”

Captured by photographer Neil Senior and coordinated by his wife Natalie, the shoot was set against the romantic backdrop of newcomer to the local wedding scene High House Walled Garden in Congham, Norfolk.

Beth Broomby explains, “High House has been in our family for generations after the estate was bought by Cedric Clifton Brown. Working with Natalie and Neil on our first shoot was a pleasure, they understood our need to reflect the history of the house but at the same time add a playful spin on classic tradition.”

The natural colour scheme complemented the romantic outdoor space and the bride’s bespoke trouser two-piece added a fresh contemporary feel.

“We want people to have fun here and feel at home.

The shoot captured that spirit perfectly,” adds Beth.

SINGING IN THE RAIN We’re hoping to have an al fresco ceremony for our April wedding but are worried bad weather might spoil our plans. What would you advise?

Francesca says: No one wants to hear the words, ‘shame about the rain’ on their wedding day. However, the Great British weather is incredibly unpredictable at any time of year and especially during the spring months, so how can you be prepared to embrace whatever the heavens throw at you? Here are my five top tips to help you turn a negative into a positive: 1. Ask all your wedding guests to come prepared with big, bright, colourful umbrellas or have some available to be handed out if needed. Many venues will provide them.

2. Have coordinated bad-weather accessories for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, great for fun photos!

3. Chat with your photographer and venue to find out if there are alternative locations for the photographs. Many venues have stunning backdrops inside, which can be prepared in advance just in case it’s hailing outside! On the plus side, overcast skies can be a bonus for photographers as bright sunshine can cause problems with shadows.

4. Celebrate the wellies! There are some gorgeous ones out there in a variety of colours and patterns, fabulous for popping on before treking across the lawn or down a slushy path. They will save your beautiful wedding shoes from mud and grass stains too.

5. Tents, gazebos, pods and yurts all make fantastic shelters for your guests, perfect for drinks and canapés too while you wait for the skies to clear.

Sharron says: Spring is such a romantic time of year to get married and bridal hair and make-up trials are well and truly underway now. Wavy hair is very popular and will easily fit any wedding theme and bridal style. Updos have always been popular with brides as there are so many options for different hair lengths and wedding styles. Wavy, textured and airy; braided, simple twisted low buns or curled, relaxed updos can complement a variety of big-day themes. Wear seasonal flowers in your hair too for the perfect finishing touch. For spring bridal make-up, think fresh, radiant and glowing (not shiny!) with emphasis on the eyes.

Vicky says: Foral gowns are great for this time of year. Currently we’re also seeing designs incorporating lace with a botanical feel such as the Lenovia by Gino Cerruti dress (pictured). We stock this lovely dress and the lace looks like cherry blossom. Lightweight, floaty chiffon gowns are also ideal for a lovely light and airy feel and you can add seasonal touches with accessories such as a veil with floral embroidery, a belt or tiara with a flower design. We’re big cake lovers but can’t make up our minds what to choose for our big day. What’s popular currently for an on-trend showstopper that looks and tastes great?

Fern says: The colour trends we’re seeing for 2022 are hot pinks alongside orange hues and also gold and green shades. Both are popular themes but if the bolder colours aren’t for you, ivory, green, gold and peach tones remain on trend for more traditional cakes. Floral decorations can add a seasonal touch such as bold coloured tulips to provide that extra punch of colour. Not only do we use seasonal flowers and decorations, we also try to incorporate seasonality in our jams and preserves too, such as lemon curd, elderflower and rhubarb.

ake a peek down the rabbit hole and discover a world of wedding wonderment. Think pink flamingos, Mad Hatter’s tea party and more, the possibilities are as big as your imagination! Local suppliers show how with this Alice-in-Wonderland-inspired shoot at the Insta-worthy Tipsy Teapot restaurant and cocktail bar in Kings Lynn.

Coordinator Tina Gedney of West Norfolk Interiors explains, “We wanted to create a fun, colourful and vibrant theme for the shoot to inspire newlyweds-to-be to think outside the box.”

The overhead table décor included vintage teacups, crystals, large paper flowers with greenery and umbrellas. The table centrepiece featured a top hat with a silk floral display and the afternoon tea wedding breakfast was served with candelabra and cocktails poured from vintage crystal into teacups. For extra fun they arranged with the venue for a cocktail specialist and magician to be added to the mix.

I

can’t believe that in just a few months time I’ll officially become Mrs Cullen – eek! Dave and I have been engaged since Christmas Day 2020 and are due to get married this July. With all of the uncertantity surrounding COVID-19 restrictions, it’s been quite a stressful journey.

However, now that the date is drawing closer I’m finally starting to feel excited. In this issue, read all about my experience going shopping for the bridesmaids’ dresses.

DRESSED TO IMPRESS

a Monday when it was quieter and I’m so glad we did! The consultant was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. She made Kelly feel amazing and we didn’t feel pressured at all. With no time constraint, Kelly was able to try on every dress that caught her eye – it was a struggle to choose just one, she looked and felt stunning in them all. She eventually chose the same dress as Olivia, and in my humble (non-biased) opinion, they all look fabulous and I can’t wait to walk down the aisle with my beautiful friends.

Overall, shopping together was a nice experience and it was great spending time with the girls, but I’d definitely recommend that fellow brides-to-be start shopping for dresses sooner rather than later – particularly if you have got quite a few bridesmaids! I also can’t stress enough to avoid popular visiting times at your chosen boutiques. It will create a completely different experience and ensured everyone feels relaxed and can enjoy it.

Choosing who I wanted to be my bridesmaids was one of the easiest decisions I had to make.

My sister-in-law, Nolwenn, has been part of the family for a few years now and I really wanted to involve her in our day, so I was pleased when she wanted to be one of my bridesmaids!

I also asked my two best friends and fellow County Wedding Magazines editors, Kelly and Olivia, who were over the moon when I asked them (virtually) during one of the many lockdowns.

With the easy bit done, we were on to the task of choosing their bridesmaids’ dresses.

With conflicting schedules and unpredictable restrictions it was hard to decide on a date that worked for everyone but we were eventually able to book an appointment for the beginning of December 2021.

Shopping for their outfits was one of the things I was most excited about when we got

engaged. I love all the girls dearly and really wanted them to feel special and a part of our big day, so making sure that they were comfortable was my number one priority. I wanted them to choose their own style and the only thing I asked was that all the dresses were sage green, which worked out perfectly as the girls all love that colour – it was meant to be!

We booked a Saturday appointment and oh my gosh it was busy! The girls had to share a changing room and only managed to try on a handful of dresses before our time was up. What shocked us all was just how long the dresses take to come into the store. Starting our shopping eight months early we all thought we’d have plenty of time to shop around, but we found that all of the gowns wouldn’t be in the store until early May 2022, which would only leave us with two months for alterations – this of course, sent my stress levels through the roof!

Despite all of the craziness and the insane amount of people in the boutique, Olivia and Nolwenn both managed to find their dresses on that first visit; Nolwenn opted for a sleeveless A-line gown and Olivia chose a similar style but with floaty off-the-shoulder straps.

Kelly and I both felt overwhelmed by the first appointment, and sadly she came away empty handed, so we decided to go back on

❤ If like me, you’re nervous or unsure in front of the camera book a prewedding shoot – it really does make a difference. ❤ Before booking, decide on what style of photography you like and set a budget. ❤ Lots of photographers don’t have prices stated on their website; find five you like and email them all asking for quotes so that you can compare. ❤ Find out how many images you’ll be receiving and how long your photographer will spend with you on the day. ❤ Most suppliers will require a meal, so factor that into your catering budget and check if they have any dietary requirements. ❤ You’ll be spending a large portion of the day with your photographer, so it’s important you get on well, and they make you feel relaxed.

FLOWERS ❤ Some flowers are seasonal and may not be available at the time of year you’re getting married, so be prepared to discuss this with your florist. ❤ Your supplier will have a wealth of knowledge and will be able to advise you on what blooms will suit your day. ❤ Check your quotes include VAT. ❤ Think carefully about if you’d like real or dried flowers. If you’re unsure it may be worth talking to a few different companies to discuss the pros and cons. ❤ Your florist should suggest ways you can save money, for example, re-using blooms from your ceremony for the reception. ❤ There are so many ways that you can preserve your flowers after the wedding, so it’s worth looking at your options.

WEDDING DRESS ❤ Try on a variety of styles to find what best suits your shape. ❤ Trust your bridal consultant and listen to their recommendations, after all, they’re the experts. ❤ Choose a dress that you feel comfortable in and makes you feel like the best version of yourself. ❤ Wear white or skin-coloured underwear to your appointment. ❤ Start shopping nine to 12 months before the wedding to ensure you have plenty of time to get the gown in-store and alterations to be done. ❤ The shopping process can be daunting, so don’t feel pressured to purchase a dress for the sake of it, when you find the right gown, you’ll know it.

EXPERT ADVICE shade over her lids and blended it out with a natural brown Toast shade from Bobbi Brown. To emphasise the lashline I used a Bobbi Brown’s Black Ink Eyeliner to create a thin wing to elongate her eye shape, topped off with lashes winged on the outer edge to enhance the cat-eye effect.

STEP 3: RADIANT GLOW Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Foundation photographs beautifully, lasts all day and provides perfect medium full coverage for the base.

Next apply concealer, I used Tarte’s Shape Tape, which I describe as ‘emotion-proof’ as it lasts well and doesn’t budge, so it’s great for weddings as there’s bound to be lots of happy tears! Naomi wanted her skin to look healthy and radiant so we topped it off with Bobbi Brown medium shade bronzer and their pale pink cream blusher. Last of all we added a little more glow to her cheeks using Bobbi Brown Pink Glow highlighter.

Naomi wanted a subtle, soft pink lip colour, so I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk lip liner and lipstick, the perfect duo. I brushed up her brows with a little HD Brows brow glue. Before the wedding she had a HD Brow treatment with me to perfect the shape with the help of tinting, waxing and threading. Lastly I spritzed some MAC Fix Plus Setting Spray to help set the make-up and create a seamless finish.
