Home Remodeling

Stay in Your Home and Extend Your Health Having a home that works can add years to your life, and enhance the quality of your life.

he goal is to remodel or build a new home that will be a great place for anyone to live for the rest of their life.

In 1997, my physical condition was degenerating to the point that I had a very difficult time walking. A friend suggested that true power was not in doing everything in life but rather becoming the CEO of one’s life. From that profound comment, I created the possibility of a life that worked without compromise no matter the circumstances. In 2002, I renovated my first home without limits with my wife Mary and moved into it. From the stand that all people should live in homes that work, HDC Homes Without Limits was born. It is an expression of my life, the vehicle for me to make a difference for anyone who wants to live a life without regrets. I am committed that all people live in a physical environment that supports a full and extraordinary life. Everyone that visits one of my homes loves their beauty and functionality.

Many older people and others with limited mobility find it difficult to remain independent and enjoying well-rounded lives as they always have. A key to this is being able to stay in their homes. And making your home more accessible is not only for your own needs, but to make it more hospitable for others. Most homes have limited flow from living room to kitchen and bedrooms – doorways and halls too narrow for wheelchair access. Bathrooms have impediments such as a curb at the entrance to the shower, and limited room for a wheelchair. Closets are vertical, with racks and shelves out of reach. In the kitchen, appliances, cabinets and working surfaces are too high. Outdoors, sidewalks are usually too narrow for two people to walk side by side, and there are steps at entrances to the house. Swimming pools are very difficult to enter and exit for someone in a wheelchair.

We modify and design homes for greater mobility, accessibility and to put what residents need within easy reach. Examples include wider hallways and doorways, more spacious bathrooms

with roll-in showers, larger walk-in closets with adjustable hanging racks and shelves, kitchens with lower cabinets, working surfaces and appliances with accessible controls. Multiple story homes can be retrofitted with an elevator, installed to look as though it had always belonged in the home. Adding a home elevator is not as expensive as one might think, and really enhances home value. New technology makes possible to control entry locks, security, central phones, lighting, heating and cooling, television, intercom and communications all from a smart phone or tablet computer. Outdoors, walkways are widened and covered where possible, thresholds eliminated, gentle ramps in attractive paving added to replace or complement steps. Patio walls can be set at a comfortable height for sitting, planting beds can be raised to make working in the garden more accessible, and an adult pool for exercising can be added or modified to make it easy for everyone to enter and exit.

Michael Houlihan serves as President of HDC Homes Without Limits. Since founding the company in 2002, Michael has built and renovated homes to be accessible and energy efficient for a variety of clients and families in the St. Louis area. With nearly 40 years of experience, Michael is well-rounded in all aspects of the construction business. Michael earned a BA in Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois. HDC Homes Without Limits offers an audit to evaluate your home related to longevity and potential for possible qualiy of life changes. If you are interested in modifying your own home, or creating a Home Without Limits, you can contact Michael Houlihan for a c onsultation by phone at 314-276-7450 or by email at mhoulihan@hdcstl.com. Home Remodeling

A Smart Choice for Updating Kitchens

Consider Refacing Instead of Replacing

traditional kitchen remodeling can be a costly, messy and lengthy project. Tearing out and replacing cabinets and countertops can inconvenience your family for weeks — leaving you without a kitchen, and with a house full of dust. Thankfully, there is another option. Kitchen makeover specialists give your kitchen beautiful new cabinets, countertops and backsplashes in just a few short days. The best part is they can remodel without any tear-out or demolition, meaning little dust and mess, and you are not filling landfills with old cabinets and countertops. This is possible through high quality countertop and cabinet refacing—an innovative and green approach that can cut costs and give you a fabulous new kitchen in no time at all. Countertop refacing is one of the most popular trends in home remodeling. A beautiful slab of maintenance-free granite or recycled glass is custom measured and cut to fit snugly over your countertop, for a fresh new look. These slabs have superior heat-, scratch-, stain-, and bacteria-resistance; never need to be sealed, come in a wide array of colors, and are backed by a lifetime warranty. Complementing mosaic tile or granite backsplashes can be added. Kitchen cabinet refacing provides all new solid wood or rigid thermo-foil doors, and cabinet frames and all exposed sides are covered with matching material. Hidden hinges provide a clean look and there is an unlimited choice of handles and knobs. You have the same selection of materials, styles and colors for refacing cabinets that you do for new ones: solid wood, thermo-foil or paint finishes. Granite Transformations is the St. Louis area’s kitchen refacing

experts. They can reface your cabinets, install granite over your existing countertops and add complementing mosaic tile or granite backsplash. For a free inhome quote you can call BEFORE them at (636) 449-1579, visit their showrooms in Chesterfield at 17409 Chesterfield Airport Road or in Fenton at 1750 Fenpark Drive, or their website at granitetransformations. com/StLouis. clm AFTER

Landscape Architects Agree:

Outdoor Lighting Makes All the Difference.

wouldn’t enjoy spending time there after dark. The same scenario is true for your outdoor spaces.

If you’re not drawn to linger in your backyard when the sun goes down, outdoor lighting can make an amazing difference. And with all the effort and investment you have in your outdoor spaces, it’s a shame for them go to waste lovely evening after lovely evening – especially when quality outdoor lighting is so affordable. Landscape architects agree that outdoor lighting is a critical element in any outdoor space design. A carefully planned lightscape will rescue your yard from the blackness, transforming it into an enchanting retreat. Your family and guests will be tempted to linger in the luminous comfort of your private outdoor wonderland. For the most part, outdoor lighting should be subtle, wrapping you in a warm glow, almost as if by candlelight. But working surfaces should be lit quite differently. Outdoor cooking areas usually benefit from downlighting that illuminates the working surfaces, but not the cook. On patios, decks, gazebos and other areas where guests gather, care should be taken to assure that no light shines in guests’ eyes. Of course, this kind of comfort lighting is just the beginning. Elegant path lighting creates a magical effect while helping to assure no one stumbles. Uplighting at the base of your trees highlights your yard’s best assets. Moonlighting in the foliage provides the beautiful glow of a full moon even when the sky isn’t cooperating. In addition to lighting your landscape, there are inspiring opportunities with architectural lighting. You can swathe walls in a wash of inviting light, highlight your home’s unique architectural features, and illuminate “dead” spots that always seem too dark or go unnoticed. Your house will look homey and welcoming, lifting the mood of the entire neighborhood while discouraging intruders and vandals. Of course, you’ll want to go for quality when installing outdoor lighting. High quality fixtures (avoid painted aluminum which will quickly chip) should direct light precisely. Likewise, you want the color and intensity of the light to be consistent. Too bright here,

mixed with too blue there and unwanted flickering elsewhere can ruin even the best lighting layouts. Many savvy homeowners turn to professional outdoor lighting companies to design and install their lightscapes. Most reputable lighting firms use the highest quality fixtures - offering better quality and more variety than you will find at a store - and provide free consultation and free design services. You’ll often find these firms offer better warranties than you can get on your own as well. Outdoor lighting is an affordable investment with returns that include an enticing space to enjoy a soul-soothing evening breeze, an uplifting view of your luminous backyard wonderland, and the welcoming glow of a beautifully lit façade. Dollar for dollar, you’ll get more enjoyment out of an outdoor lighting system than practically any other investment in your home. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives is the most experienced source for quality outdoor lighting design, installation and maintenance. They offer complimentary design services by their professional lighting designers. Their high-quality fixtures are designed to accommodate the appropriate light sources. They are extremely durable, manufactured with corrosion-resistant materials such as heavy-gauge copper and brass. They are made – and guaranteed – to last. If you have questions on different types of outdoor lighting technologies or what would work best on your property, you can call Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of St. Louis for a free consultation at your home at 636-561-1818, and you can learn more about them at www.outdoorlights.com. clm

Was Your Home Damaged in Wind or Hail Storms? Consumer Advocate on Your Side. YouTheymayworkneedforayou, not the insurance company. A Consumer Advocate works for you, the home or business owner. They give you a voice in the claims process by properly assessing and making you aware of the true condition of your home’s exterior, prior to your filing a claim. They also offer assistance that has proven successful when you believe the insurance company may have missed damage, or if you believe they have devalued or minimized your claim. Homeowners in the St. Louis area are certainly aware of the severe weather we experienced last year and again just a few months ago. The most recent storms were reported throughout St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County and Jefferson County. It is important to understand that damage to homes and businesses is not always obvious and may not be easily detected by the average homeowner. Hailstorms and damaging winds can be very localized, with some homes in a neighborhood damaged while others are not. Factors such as wind direction and roof pitch determine how much damage is sustained by exposed surfaces of homes - roofs, siding, gutters and downspouts, screens and air conditioning units. The size of hailstones and whether they make direct impact or glancing blows also are factors. To determine damage, insurance companies will send an inspector to your home, right after the storm or up to several months later. Photos on this page show typical damage that can occur from hail and severe windstorms. Impact holes and tattered edges of cedar shingles, denting on a roof vent cap, a dented gutter downspout and a torn window screen help verify hail impact. Hail damage to asphalt roof shingles includes tattered edges, shingle loss, extreme granule loss on shingles and penetration holes. You can also see dents on the fins of an air conditioning unit from a driving hailstorm. Damage from severe winds to asphalt roofs includes lifting, tearing and even missing shingles, as shown on this page. While these signs of damage seem to be obvious, inspectors often miss them, causing claims to be denied or limited to only what the insurance inspector has seen. When the wind gets under asphalt shingles and lifts them, it can pop the glue tabs and nails, causing shingles to tear, not lie down and re-adhere.

Damage to shingles can reduce their useful life and also expose cracks where water can penetrate, making the roof vulnerable to future leaks and more severe exterior and interior damage. If the roof is compromised in this way, it is important that it is completely replaced rather than patched or partially replaced, since there are very likely other areas where the damage is not as obvious. Damage to gutters can cause leaks that rot the soffits where they are attached or cause water to pour down to the foundation or fill window wells, causing further problems. Damage to air conditioning fins can impair operation, reducing air flow and raising the refrigerant temperature, leading to lost performance and reliability. It is important that homeowners have an advocate who can provide a “second opinion” in the event that their insurance company denies or limits their liability to lesser damage than actually exists. Someone who can guide you through the claim process to make it easier, and assist in getting the maximum benefit your policy allows. Midwest Roof Restoration Consulting & Design, an affiliate of Aspen Touch LLC Home Restoration & Remodeling, is a local, third-generation contractor and we are the advocate for homeowners with expertise in storm damage and repair, including not just roofs but also siding, gutters, windows and more. Midwest Roof Restoration Consulting & Design helps homeowners streamline the insurance process, while assuring that you get the maximum benefit your policy allows. Many homeowners have found that damage to their roofing, siding and gutters have met their insurance company’s criteria to authorize full replacement. Before contacting your insurance company, you can contact Midwest for a free evaluation and consultation on your home’s exterior and any storm damage. They are fully insured, and have helped numerous homeowners acquire new roofs, siding, gutters and repairs to their property affected by storms. You can call owners and experienced inspectors Brian Teipel at (636) 346-1959 and Don Womack at (636) 368-7516 or by email at BTEIPEL75@gmail.com. You can learn more on their website, www.aspentouch. com. clm

Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spa by Master Spas Three years ago, the world’s most famous swimmer teamed up with Master Spas to develop a namesake line of swim spas. It all began when he and his coach Bob Bowman needed a swim spa in which the 6-foot-4 athlete could comfortably work out. He needed a deeper and longer model and more powerful propulsion to swim against. The result is The Signature, a custom model 10 inches deeper and 18 inches longer, with propulsion 40% greater than any model Master Spas had ever made before. “The swim spa supplements what we are doing in the pool,” Phelps said. After workouts, he likes to soak in the hot tub area of the spa. Michael appreciates the passion and enthusiasm of the people at Master Spas. In partnership with the Michael

Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time with 22 medals. Phelps also holds the all-time records for Olympic gold medals (18, double that of the next highest record holders), Olympic gold medals in individual events (11), and Olympic medals in individual events for a male (13). In winning eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games, Phelps took the record for the most first-place finishes at any single Olympic Games. Five of those victories were in individual events, tying the single Games record. In the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Phelps won four gold and two silver medals, making him the most successful athlete of the Games for the third Olympics in a row.

Phelps Swim School, Master Spas has opened the first Michael Phelps Performance Center in Saco, Maine. It houses four of his Signature Swim Spas with overhead and underwater cameras. Swimmers of all levels can work on the finer points of their strokes and then watch themselves on film. The Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas by Master Spas provide continuous current and water temperature for a more comfortable, “endless” swim, year round. Resistance is adjustable, allowing swimmers of varying skills to customize the flow. The full range of motion, lack of impact and controlled temperature make the swim spa ideal for fitness exercises, jogging in place, using a kickboard, or rowing kit with resistance bands. A therapeutic spa massage improves circulation, relieves joints, soothes aching muscles and melts away tension. The Xtreme Therapy Seat wraps you in comfort while delivering hydrothermal therapy with its unique jets. An optional surround sound system allows you to enjoy music through the water. Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas comfortably accommodate more people than a standard spa. One person can swim while others enjoy a relaxing tub. All models are designed for both indoor and outdoor use. The exclusive dealer for Master Spas and Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas in St. Louis is Spas and More! LLC with over 130 Swim Spas currently installed. As they say, “We put the Aaaahh in Spa.” Their luxurious new 7,400 square foot showroom at the Taubman Prestige Outlets Mall in Chesterfield has over 25 hot tubs, spas and swim spas on display. Spas and More! stocks a complete line of parts and supplies to support Master Spas and other brands. Service personnel are factory trained on all products they sell. They are the

Add an outdoor living area and you will feel like you’re always on vacation! “Our dream outdoor space is now just two steps away from our kitchen door.”

ver since we moved to the St. Louis area four years ago, we wanted to create a great cooking and entertainment area in our back yard. We love to cook, be outdoors, and entertain friends and family, and had a very good idea of exactly what we wanted.”

But this Wildwood family started to give up on having their dream outdoor room. They spoke with three different reputable builders over a three year period, each of whom said it either couldn’t be done how they wanted or it would cost almost as much as their house. “Despite the fact that they were very competent and respected builders with great references, they either could not envision the look and openness we wanted, or they couldn’t see how to build it the way we wanted. It was clear that our project would be something they had never done before and I was not comfortable with that, and I sensed the builders weren’t either!” They were even going to draw up plans to build a cabin on their lake property just to create the outdoor space they wanted! The family was about to give up on having an outdoor space added to their home when they saw pictures of Heartlands Building Company’s work in this magazine. The entire family had the same reaction: “That’s the room we want!” After meeting with Larry Brost of Heartlands, and seeing their previous work, they knew Heartlands could build the outdoor living space they wanted the way they wanted. “The fact that Heartlands specializes in outdoor rooms clearly showed. We were so confident we had the right builder, we signed the contract in less than a week.”

Once the contract was signed, plans were drawn and Dan, the Heartlands project manager, used 3-D software to let the family see all the details they wanted as well as some features they hadn’t thought of as they were dreamt up. He coordinated with the retaining wall and pool contractors to make sure all aspects of the outdoor area flowed together. “The entire Heartlands team is professional, competent, and experienced. They were so friendly and courteous, they became like part of the family. Unlike most builders we have worked with, they took great pride in keeping the job site clean; never forgetting the site was not just where they work, it’s where we live.” With the help of a structural engineer, Heartlands was able to limit the number of support posts, creating an “open” covered area between the pool and the lower level of the house. The deck above is low maintenance and environmentally friendly Fibron composite. The custom extruded aluminum railing is strong enough to lean on and wide enough to accommodate guests’ cups and plates. The deck adjoins a stone patio with a big, beautiful stone and brick wood burning fireplace. A decorative concrete counter and cooking area sit between the two. Between the fireplace and the infrared heaters Larry recommended, the family was surprised to find that they could use their outdoor room

all winter long. “Our addition clearly looks like it’s another room of the home, not simply an added on deck or cooking area. We just love the outcome.” You can see more completed Heartlands living spaces at www.heartlandshome.com. The gallery of projects includes outdoor rooms as well as custom homes, home additions and remodels. To discuss a project at your home, you can call Heartlands for a free in-home consultation or an appointment at their showroom in Chesterfield Valley at 636-728-0003. clm

Keeping Wooden Roofs Beautiful Periodic treatment preserves & protects

o other exterior building material compares with wood for its warm, natural look, resilience and versatility. Cedar shake roofs, oak or pine log or cedar walls, down to redwood decks, a wooden home has a distinctive look that improves with age. However, to keep wood exteriors looking their best and prevent deterioration that can lead to costly repairs, it's important to periodically treat wood surfaces that start to dull or darken with mold, show signs of mildew or have lost protection from the elements. Wood surfaces that are unprotected degrade from exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun. These harmful rays turn bare wood dark, dull and uneven in color. Rain penetrates the wood, causing it to swell. Then blistering heat from the sun dries it. This cycle can cause wood to warp, splinter and crack. Moisture also can make cedar and other woods conducive to mold and mildew. Unlike most other building materials, however, wood exteriors can be restored and maintained through proper care and treatment.

Arched Roosevelt

Preserving wood protects it from moisture and sunlight, and helps it last twice, even three times as long. This extended life makes cedar roofs, wood siding and decks cost-effective building solutions. The experts at Aspen Touch Cedar Restoration & Installation have more than 25 years of experience in preserving, repairing and replacing wood roofs, natural wood siding and decks on St. Louis’s finest homes. Their restoration process uses a high pressure wash to remove algae, moss and lichen, returning wood to its natural color. Shingles are repaired, replaced and nailed as needed. Finally, a quality sealer/stain is applied. This restoration is also effective for asphalt roofs. Aspen Touch is also expert in installing new cedar shake roofs, siding and decking. They can help you make informed decisions about preserving the beauty and value of your wood exteriors. You can call them at 636-458-8878, or visit them at www.aspentouch.com. clm

atural stone has been a landscaping material of choice for thousands of years. Now there are also interlocking pavers that are great for patios, pool decks, walks and driveways. They come in many shapes, styles and color tones. More attractive than asphalt, concrete or even bricks, they are also more durable and practical. Concrete pavers are fade-resistant and formed with extreme pressure. Their “bridging action” distributes loads and stresses and carries weight required in high-traffic areas. They are set in a compacted base that can expand and contract with temperature and environment changes, providing excellent drainage and preventing erosion. Retaining walls of textured concrete block add character and provide dramatic new “curb appeal.” They come in a variety of sizes, colors, shapes, weights, setbacks and finishes to meet different aesthetic and performance needs. Their strong lines and rough-hewn textures resemble cut stone, and some integrate ground cover for a natural look. Fall and winter are excellent times to install new hardscapes or replace retaining walls. Ground conditions are ideal, and since lawn and plants become dormant, installation work won’t damage them. One of the most experienced contractors in St. Louis County for patios and retaining walls is West County Gardens, Inc. For over 30 years they have provided complete design and landscape installation services, including patios, walks, drives, planters and retaining walls. They are certified and fully insured. Kitchen & Bath

Refinish Your Bath and Kitchen

Remodeling Without Replacement

the most expensive rooms in your home to remodel. It’s because a big part of getting that new look means messy, time-consuming removal and replacement of countertops, bathtubs, vanities and sinks.

AFTER Restoring old surfaces with updated, new finishes is a technique that is saving St. Louis homeowners thousands of dollars. According to surface restoration expert Terry Kavanaugh refinishing is the smart money alternative to expensive and messy demolition. St Louis has more than its share of yellow, green and pink bathtubs, worn fiberglass showers, and dated countertops. These scarred, worn out and impossible-to-clean tubs, tile walls, vanities, and countertops can be refinished to look and feel like new instead of being replaced. The refinishing process first involves cleaning the surface to remove dirt, soap scum and body oil.  Next, the best refinishers use a bonding agent to create a chemical bond between the old surface and the new finish.  This penetrating bonding agent provides the strongest adhesion and is far superior to the old acid etching process. Finally, a durable, hi-tech acrylic urethane finish is applied which is not only beautiful but can extend the useful life of a fixture for 15 years or more. Another remarkable transformation is how dated or damaged laminate, tile and Corian™ vanities and countertops can be given new life without messy tear out and replacement. Stone-like finishes, such as Natural Accents™, are perfect for people who want the appearance of stone, but would rather have a less expensive alternative.  When Natural Accents is applied, knife cuts, burns, chips and outdated colors disappear; the result will be a

refinished surface that is both beautiful and durable for a fraction of the cost of real stone. Homeowners are learning that refinishing is a terrific way to have the bathroom or kitchen makeover they want without the expense, mess and time associated with traditional remodeling. In just 24 hours bathroom fixtures, vanities, and kitchen countertops can have a complete new look. With growing concerns about overflowing landfills, surface restoration makes more sense than ever before, Kavanaugh says. Not only does refinishing reduce the burden on landfills, since replacement fixtures are not necessary, but it also helps reduce pollution created by manufacturing and transporting new fixtures. Part of the 30-year-old Miracle Method Surface Restoration network, Kavanaugh is a licensed and insured refinisher. He has thousands of happy St. Louis customers, and he provides homeowners a five-year guarantee. Only Miracle Method uses a proprietary, non-acid bonding agent and does not introduce harmful acids into your home. The company’s process works equally well on porcelain, tile, cultured marble, fiberglass, acrylic, Corian™ and laminate surfaces. A Miracle Method refinished bathtub can last 15 years or more using the same simple care and maintenance recommended by new tub manufacturers. Stone and Tile Floors Looking Dull? Ugly Grout?

on’t despair. Most stone damage can be corrected. Whether dull, suffering water spots, cracks or chips, the problem can be addressed. A true stone professional will work with you to assess the root cause and to formulate a strategy to avoid a recurrence. As always, good information is a homeowner’s greatest asset in maintaining their quality home in peak condition. If you have stone or tile surfaces in your home it makes sense that you contact a local stone and tile craftsman to discuss what you can do to restore and maintain your stone surfaces day-to-day. A brief dialogue can extend the life of your stone’s finish several years and save you from costly errors. If you answered yes to any of the above questions, it’s time to meet with a stone restoration professional about restoring your stone surfaces and preventing future damage. The good news is that most problems are repairable and cost substantially less than replacement options. Proper selection and application of a stone sealer can reduce or prevent damage from stains and water. A ColorSeal treatment of

your sanded grout can not only restore your original grout color but topically seal it to better resist stains in the future. Many glass and tile cleaners will dissolve the marble leaving a rough spot. Fortunately, even this can be repaired. Grout repair and sealing is a common part of the repair and restoration process. Experienced stone and tile craftsmen can provide pointers on how to maintain stone, tile and granite surfaces, and to keep them looking like the day they were installed. Your ceramic, porcelain, marble, granite, terrazzo, limestone and travertine will look new when your greatgrandchildren come to visit generations from now. For expert advice and restoration, you can call MARBLELIFE-Groutmasters at 1-888-388-7730 and visit their Website at www.marblelife-stlouis.com. Furnace Maintenance

TAKE THIS SHORT QUIZ TO DETERMINE “IS IT YOUR FLOOR, YOUR CLEANER OR YOU?” WHEN YOU COMPARE THE REFLECTION OF AN OVERHEAD LIGHT ON THE STONE SURFACE IN THE CENTER OF YOUR FLOOR AND A CORNER DO YOU SEE A DIFFERENCE IN IMAGE CLARITY? A more diffuse appearance is indicative of a wear issue; this is correctable. CAN YOU SEE A CLEAR WELL DEFINED LIGHT OR WINDOW REFLECTION? If you are using a “floor (average household) cleaner” or vinegar, you are damaging your stone finish and artificially lightening your grout color. Seek a pH neutral stone cleaner designed specifically for marble. If it doesn’t specifically state it is safe for use on marble, it likely is not. Acidic cleaners can literally dissolve and remove your grout color pigments. DO YOU SEE WATER SPOTS OR MOP MARKS WHICH CANNOT BE CLEANED? These can result from a fruit juice, soda or other acidic liquid spill or use of an improper cleaner. While they look like they should be cleanable they keep coming back. The problem is that acids dissolve the marble’s surface, resulting in a localized dull spot. DO YOU HAVE CHIPPED, BROKEN OR CRACKED TILES? These can often be repaired in a fashion so as to blend the repair, making it virtually invisible to those who did not know the tile was previously damaged. The cause is often building movement or mortar-placement related.

Let our licensed technicians perform a thorough cleaning and tune up of your furnace to help ensure efficient, reliable and safe operation and better comfort all winter long. Price is per forced air system. Call for price for boiler systems. Expires 11/30/2013.

IS YOUR GROUT BREAKING, CRACKING OR SIMPLY MISSING? Damaged grout can be repaired. Grout damage is most often the result of building settling or floor flexing if not installed on a solid slab surface. IS YOUR GROUT STAINED OR DIFFICULT TO CLEAN? Grout is naturally absorbent. A sealer should be applied to minimize staining in the event of a spill. Sealers typically need to be re-applied every two-years. Mopping techniques can have a dramatic impact on how clean your grout is and will stay. A stone professional can provide guidance on the best route to rejuvenating a stubborn grout problem.

University City Couple Extends Social Consciousness, Aesthetic Living with Mindful Solar Energy Installation BY CINDY PULLEY

t was an unusually comfortable late summer night in St. Louis on the southern edge of University City, and Mark and Peggy Holly sat on their deck to share their solar energy story as the fading sun’s rays spilled through their unique awning. It made the sunlight dance on the flowers and a fruit-laden tomato plant below. What is so unique about their awning? It is comprised of 14 glass architectural panels that are actually solar photovoltaic energy arrays covering their deck. Not only were Peggy and Mark enjoying their deck garden, they were benefiting financially from those solar panels – which have so far generated up to 80 percent of their monthly electric bill. Mark shared the metered savings tracked by an app on his phone. “You can see here our [electricity] usage since it was installed December 31,” Mark said. “In the winter months we were actually generating 100 percent of our utility costs. During the day the panels collect the solar energy and our [bi-directional] meter would run backward. At night we would draw power.” The Hollys approached their solar energy installation with the same mindfulness they use in their careers, their community involvement, and also in their home improvements. Their home is an elegant reminder of its University City-Clayton neighborhood origins—customized homes built by professionals in the 1920s. They have carefully retained the property’s architecture and character—through window replacements, a kitchen remodel and a “new” bathroom on the home’s original second floor that mimics its early 20th century installation. Over 10 years ago, a 2-story addition was added, and the Hollys’ designer and contractor took pains to match the warm wood floors and the addition’s arch to the one in the home’s front entry. They also made the first floor wheelchair accessible. “We wanted our home to be a place where people could relax and feel welcome, and this addition provides that,” Peggy said of the addition—which consists of a family room, upstairs master suite and deck. There are none of the modern media trappings anywhere on the main level. “No one comes here to watch television,” Peggy said. “We intend this home to be a place for conversation.”

As the conversation with the Hollys unfolded, it became clear that investing in the future by installing solar is more than a sustainability achievement; it is part of their social consciousness. Both of them are actively involved in supporting the arts and both have served on several community boards. All of their dogs have been rescued. Their home is also a gathering place for traveling opera artists who need a room, a kitchen to cook an occasional meal for friends, and a piano for singing practice. Attention to detail was important to the Hollys as they made plans for the solar energy system. “We thought about putting it on our newly renovated garage,” Mark said. Prior to adding the solar system to their history of renovations, they interviewed three companies. The only staff members who had an understanding of sound engineering were the professionals at Missouri Solar Applications (formerly called Certified Solar). “They were the only ones that could answer our questions, and they were the only ones to come up with the solar awning idea.” Mark said. He mentioned other aspects that were also important to them: the quality and aesthetic look of the panels, the shade factor report, and the fact that they would work with their remodeling contractor, Roger Kepner of Landmark Builders, who was able to wrap the solar installation into the deck. “That made it easy,” Mark said. For more photos, details and benefits of an aesthetically pleasing solar energy system like the Hollys’, you can contact the St. Louis regional office of Missouri Solar Applications at 636.244.2445 or by email at dwayne@mosolarapps.com. Home Energy Solutions

How is Your Home Performing? Solutions for Increasing Comfort and Safety, and Reducing Energy Bills burner assembly and setting the burner and gas pressure for maximum efficiency. Finally, a safety check, including all controls, and inspections of the heat exchanger, burners and flue pipe for cracks or blockages that can inhibit air flow are essential for assuring safe air quality.

For a home to perform correctly, all systems including furnaces, air conditioners, windows, insulation, bathroom fans and more must work together in harmony. Furnaces depend on insulation to retain the heat they generate. Insulation needs air sealing to allow it to work properly. If one link in the chain is broken, comfort and efficiency are reduced. Improvements to your home start with proper evaluation and testing. A home energy audit will identify the causes of comfort problems and high energy consumption, and suggest cost-effective remedies. Common recommended improvements often made from an audit include: Air Sealing - Your home is probably leaking air, reducing efficiency of your heating and cooling system. Air sealing is the first step to an energy-efficient home. Insulation is also important to an energy-efficient home. Find out how much insulation you have, how it’s performing and whether you need more. Duct Sealing - Leaking ducts in attics or cool crawlspaces not only waste energy, but also reduce comfort and are also a chief cause of poor air quality. Crawlspace Sealing - Cold floors can be caused by unsealed crawlspaces below. They can also lead to poor air quality, comfort and energy efficiency in your home. Sealing prevents moisture and air infiltration.

Furnaces are gas combustion appliances that require routine maintenance to safely provide reliable comfort and efficiency. To keep heating systems running correctly, an annual tune-up is recommended. A complete furnace tune-up should include checking the thermostat, cycle settings, pilot light assembly, plenum condition, blower motor, voltage and amperage draw, and operating condition of the furnace and ductwork. In addition, maintenance should include lubricating the motor and blower bearings, inspecting and tightening all connections, cleaning the

So, who do you call to make your home more efficient or solve comfort problems? SmartHouse is a St. Louis company that eliminates the guesswork. A SmartHouse Home Energy Audit is the first step to help you find the exact causes of common comfort problems or high utility bills. SmartHouse will present you with a detailed list of improvement suggestions, an actionable and cost effective plan to fix the problems, rather than bandage the symptoms. In addition to full-service heating and cooling maintenance, repairs and installation, SmartHouse also has on staff experts in insulation and air sealing, including ducts and crawlspaces. You select the improvements you want, and their expert crews will perform the services. As your whole-home energy consultant, they don’t just “sell” something, they show you exactly what you need and why you need it. Their technicians are not paid commissions, so there is no incentive to sell something you don’t need.

Right now SmartHouse has two offers to help you get started. First, they will conduct a whole-house energy audit for just $199. This thorough analysis normally costs $249. And they will provide a heating system tune-up for just $89, normally $129. If on inspection, you are found to have an older, low-efficiency heating system that is not working properly and not worth fixing, you can improve comfort and also get considerable cost savings with efficient new equipment. Rebates of $150 to $1,900 are available from manufacturers, as well as rebates from Laclede Gas and Ameren and also federal tax savings. Uncorked...and Uncovered

Fun and flavor along Missouri’s Weinstrasse

ost Americans don’t realize Missouri’s valuable viticultural contribution to the world’s wine table. They can be forgiven. But they also can become educated.

Beyond the fact that Missouri’s native Norton rootstock helped save the French wine industry in the 1800s, beyond the fact that Hermann was second nationally in wine production before prohibition, there are three significant contributions to the world from Missouri wineries. Taste. Beauty. And fun. The unique native grapes and varietals that spring from Missouri soils are turning heads, and winning awards, both nationally and internationally. That creates a buzz among knowledgeable connoisseurs. Forget all that. I want to visit these Missouri vineyards, discover the beauty, and have some fun. No matter where I go in Missouri, I haven’t seen an ugly winery yet. Quite the contrary. This year nearly two million people will experience a Missouri winery. And one of the best ways to sample the vino and the joie de vivre is along the Weinstrasse.

can pop a cork in just about any direction and hit one of nine wineries in the area. Personally, I gravitate toward beer gardens, especially in this German countryside. Lucky for me the Augusta Brewery beer garden borders the Katy Trail. On a recent bike trip on the trail, I sat down to a plate of curried mussels and a bowl of smoked duck gumbo. But this place serves up something for everybody. Lovers can order an aphrodisiac-inspired meal. Trail joggers can get their hops. And the pious can recite the Beer Prayer, as printed on their playful website.

Cross over the Missouri River to see how a historic town connects with the riverfront. Visit WINE TRUCK Washington, a community heavy into the arts, as evidenced by favorite son Gary Lucy and his world- renowned river scenes. When you walk into the Visitor’s Center at Washington, Missouri, you’re entering a historic passenger train station. Adorned with photographs and displays of old trains—and riverboats too—it’s a living museum, which doubles as the Amtrak depot. Indeed, Washington is part history museum, part arts community. . . all charm. It’s easy to see how an artist gets inspired. Washington’s riverfront is picturesque. And the town doesn’t miss the opportunity to connect to the river, with several outdoor cafes and courtyards. Now follow Highway 100 along gorgeous bluffs and peek down ravines at your road’s companion, the Missouri River.

Start in Augusta. If you’re seeking the two basic food groups–beer and wine–Augusta has a bigger supply than any other town with a bike trail next to a river. Indeed, Augusta is wine country. I know, every region south of the Arctic Circle has a wine country. But this one saved the world. It evolved courtesy of the Missouri River, which delivered German settlers to the area during the 1830s, and they instantly recognized the land’s potential. In the 1880s, a phylloxa nematode killed the vines in France. So Missourians sent boxcars of roots from the Norton grape to the French, who grafted their vines onto the disease resistant Norton roots, and we helped save France...the first time. The reward came a century later. On June 20, 1980 Augusta, Missouri—not Napa Valley—was declared the first official American Viticultural Area. This fertile Missouri River wine industry served America until Prohibition dealt the vineyards a blow. Today from Augusta, you

A dozen miles upstream, New Haven exhibits the same time capsule charm as its more recognized neighbors. Check out old town New Haven, off the highway and down by the river, where you’ll bump into the history of one of the major players in the Lewis & Clark saga: John Colter. Colter settled on a farm just outside what became old New Haven, where today you can check out the John Colter Memorial and a pair of museums. While you’re there, enjoy the old Central Hotel

Seeger Toyota Scion offers a great selection of vehicles for your fall excursions - to take in the autumn colors or to cheer on your football favorites. Pick the vehicle to fit the needs of your traveling team. OAK GLENN

B&B, and the art-deco ambiance of the Walt Theatre. You can be forgiven if you get hungry driving past Big Boeuf Creek and Little Boeuf Creek, Berger Creek and Berger. But you’ll also be rewarded with great food, and the fruit of the vine. That’s because wineries drape the countryside. Colorful signs point to the wineries. Oak Glenn overlooks the Missouri River. Bias winery sits in the hills, guarded by a classic old antique Chevrolet flatbed truck that looks like it might’ve seen action runnin’ moonshine. Across the highway, Robller Winery and Bommarito Winery hide along the back roads among the rolling hills.

Sienna is the minivan designed for parents as much as it is for kids.

Spend a delightful day–or two–among Hermann’s historic museums, B&Bs built by riverboat captains, fest halls and restaurants. And of course, the wineries. Stone Hill Winery anchors one beautiful hillside. Hermannhof holds forth on another. And just outside of town is Adam Puchta Winery. All are award winning, all offer a great time on a beautiful October weekend. You know, Mark Twain said that if you want to see Missouri at her best, see her in October. Nowhere is that more true than on the banks of the Missouri River in Hermann. The big draw to town is Oktoberfest, a series of fall weekends when the town celebrates the grape harvest. On one hill, show off your best Duck Dance. On the other hill, get ready for the Grape Stomp, where folks compete to mash the most grapes with their feet. Either way, get ready for some wild dancing.

Sure, folks come to Hermann for the wine. I drink the wine, too. But at some point I sneak over to the German School Museum to see what a wedding cake looks like after the bride crashes into it. Wedding cake is slang for steamboat. One look at the photos that fill the museum’s River Room, and you’ll know why. Many photos show steamboat shipwrecks, proud old riverboats that knew their lifetimes were counted in weeks and months when they entered the unforgiving currents and snags of the Missouri River. But enough frivolity. Back to the wine trail.

A beautiful fall foliage drive west along Highway 94 will deliver you to your next destination. It used to be known as the Summit Winery, because it’s located in the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River near Holts Summit. But the winery closed for a short time as it changed hands. And when it reopened, it took a new name: Canterbury Hill, “The Hill for short. It’s a great view from this summit, as you sip wine looking over the vineyards that drape the hill, and peek at the state capitol across the river.

Upstream, just up the hill from historic Rocheport, is a winery known for two things: the wine, and the view. It’s a spectacular view atop the high bluffs overlooking the Missouri River, just a mile or so from the madding crowd on I-70. And the wines match the scenery. But there’s something else here besides the wine and the view. The entertainment is a hoot. And the food is outstanding. I’ve tasted fish & chips in Dublin and London. But the best fish & chips I ever tasted was at Les Bourgeois Winery. I’m not sure why a landlocked winery can fix fish and chips better than a seaside fish house. But it’s true. Part of the charm is the view, and the pastoral setting on a river bluff, watching a gorgeous sunset.

Missouri’s Weinstrasse and beyond. What a great way to spend an October weekend! There are only two rules: Have a designated driver. And have fun!

Weekend Getaways

What Is Most Desired in A Vacation Home A Change of Pace and Scenery That’s Not Too Far From Home

hile the residential real estate market has been soft over the past few years, there has been one consistent bright spot: weekend and vacation homes. For instance, in 2011, while owneroccupied home sales dropped by 15.5 percent, sales of vacation homes actually grew by 7%. Important reasons include low finance rates, as well as gains in the stock market and the improving economy, which have made buyers more upbeat about the future. But there is another factor. According to the National Association of Realtors, in 2002 only about 33% of second homes were located within 100 miles of the owner’s primary residence. Today it is over half. Among the reasons cited are the relative ease of travel, the ability to use the home more frequently and, especially these days, the cost of gasoline. A lot of buyers are interested now because they know the prices are not going to go lower. Second home buyers aren’t just the most affluent, but include those considered middle-class. Some of the most desired second home locations are in lush areas just beyond the suburbs outside of major metropolitan areas where the owners live. This allows them to enjoy the change of pace of a country setting and it also makes it easy for friends and family to visit. A development near St. Louis that is benefiting from these trends is Grayhawk, a 1,800-acre private lakefront property tucked away in one of the most beautiful corners of historic Ste. Genevieve County. The area is a feast for the eyes - beautiful rolling river hills stretching from the Mississippi River, tucked against the St. Francois Mountains, among the oldest exposed rocks on the North American continent. Grayhawk is a gated community

conveniently located less than an hour from St. Louis, a short 39 minutes from the intersection of Highways 270 and 55, and just 15 minutes from the historic charm of Ste. Genevieve and its nearby wineries. With two crystal-clear, stream-fed lakes, and miles of pristine shoreline, Grayhawk is an ideal sanctuary for nature-lovers who enjoy boating, fishing or waterskiing. Add in an over-sized swimming pool, and you’ll find endless pathways to a lifestyle that is invigorating, relaxing and rewarding for the whole family. Grayhawk offers both lakefront home sites and large wooded lots with lake access. They can provide turn-key homebuilding services in the community. Just minutes from Grayhawk, you’ll discover the remarkable treasure that is Ste. Genevieve. This charming community will give you a glimpse into the pioneer spirit of the settlers who arrived here in the 1740s. A stroll along the streets, lined with rare and historic FrenchColonial architecture, reveals an eclectic collection of restaurants and shops. To get to Grayhawk, travel south on Interstate 55 from St. Louis to State Highway O (Exit 154), then west on Highway O for 3.5 miles to the entrance to Grayhawk on the right side of the road. Is Snoring Keeping You Awake at Night? It could indicate a serious medical condition.

bout half of all adults have trouble sleeping, and for some it is a chronic problem. Snoring is caused by impaired breathing while sleeping. Light snoring is quite common and may just be an annoyance to your sleep partner.

But if the snorer is also often feeling sleepy during the day, it could be evidence of a potentially life-threatening disorder called obstructive sleep apnea.

It is caused by repeated collapsing or narrowing of the airway during sleep. Those with this condition can actually stop breathing hundreds of times during the night, and they may not even be aware of the problem. The danger is that it not only results in increased effort to breathe, but can cause oxygen in the blood to drop to an abnormally low level. If left untreated, it can damage internal organs, particularly the cardiovascular system. Sleep apnea has been linked to high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, and diabetes.

Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when air can’t flow through the nose and mouth, but breathing efforts of the throat and diaphragm continue uninterrupted. The snoring sound results when air flow forced through the narrowed area causes soft tissue of the airway to vibrate.

Sleep apnea is a condition that was discovered as recently as the mid 1960’s, but is believed to affect at least one of every 200 people in this country. It is also one of the most under-diagnosed serious medical conditions. While most prevalent among middle-aged and overweight men, sleep apnea can afflict men or women of any age. Failure to recognize the disorder occurs both among suffers of sleep apnea and, too often, medical professionals as well. And

many of those in whom warning signs are recognized are reluctant to stay in a hospital for sleep testing. However, over the past twenty years, there have emerged a select group of specialist “sleep labs” specifically set up to effectively diagnose and treat sleep disorders. These are quiet, comfortable facilities away from the crowds and overwhelming environments of large hospitals. These centers are able to provide expertise and personal attention to see the process all the way through from testing to effectively implementing solutions to sleep problems.

One sleep lab that has been recognized as a leader in sleep disorders is right here in St. Louis County. Midwest Sleep Diagnostics was established in its present central West County location in 1994, and is recognized as St. Louis’ premier independent sleep lab. It was recently featured on the nationally syndicated Dr. Oz Show. The process begins with an informal phone call to help understand the individual’s symptoms and sleep conditions. If a sleep disorder is suspected, the next step is a “sleep study” called a polysomnography, the gold standard for diagnosing sleep disorders. It is the only method universally accepted by physicians and health insurers. A sleep study typically involves an overnight stay in a sleep clinic. Instead of the sterile, institutional aesthetic found in most medical facilities, a night at Midwest Sleep Diagnostics will feel more like an overnight stay in a trendy hotel – complete with a comfortable, full-size bed, luxury bed linens, controlled light, sound and temperature, showers and even flat-screen televisions. Throughout the night a sleep technolo-

gist uses specialized equipment to monitor the body during sleep. They measure airflow, respiratory effort, oxygen levels and more to determine the presence of apnea and other disorders. Data is recorded and analyzed by a registered sleep technologist who measures and identifies each sleep stage and flags any abnormalities. Although sleep apnea is the most common disorder, they can also detect other sleep disorders including narcolepsy, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, sleep walking and sleep talking. Results are then reviewed by Dr. Anthony Masi, a physician specializing in sleep medicine, who makes the diagnosis and recommendations for treatment. If sleep apnea is detected, the most commonly recommended treatment is continuous positive airway pressure therapy, or CPAP, which uses a small device to provide pressurized air to prevent apneas. Sleep testing in the laboratory will determine the specific CPAP settings needed, and will allow you to try the therapy before making a final decision. Patients who choose CPAP therapy are given expert follow-through help to insure that the patient receives maximum benefit from the therapy. Midwest Sleep Diagnostics is located on Manchester Road at Weidman. Their services and therapy are typically covered benefits in most insurance plans. You can contact them directly at 636-227-8787, and you can learn more on their website at www.midwestsleep.com. clm

would like to take the mystery out of hypnosis as an effective therapy for enabling behavior change by explaining how it works. Your conscious mind contains your active thoughts, and the subconscious part of your mind contains the information that you act on. Consider the unconscious to be like a big filing cabinet that holds a record of everything you’ve ever experienced. All your habits, behaviors, responses, reactions, memories and emotions are stored there, as though there is a file for each thing you do. Hypnosis is the process of communicating with the subconscious mind. Before a hypnosis session, your therapist should ask specifically what behavior you would

like to change. This identifies the file that you are currently working from. Hypnosis gets the subconscious part of your mind to open up intentionally, like opening a drawer on the filing cabinet, so that a new file can be added about how you want to function. For instance, if you want to be a non-smoker, would like to have different eating habits, or be more confident. After the session is over, your mind has new information to begin to work from and doesn’t need to keep going back to and working from the old information. With hypnosis you can’t make someone do something they don’t want to do. For hypnosis to work, the subject must be willing to accept the change, because the

conscious mind is still very aware of what is going on. At all times, the subject has complete power of selectivity. He or she therefore reacts only to suggestions that are reasonable and pleasing to them. Joan Krueger has a private practice with offices in Kirkwood and Pevely. Many individuals have achieved their goals, both personally and professionally, through guidance they have received in her hypnosis sessions. About 80% of people who Joan hypnotizes to stop smoking will quit after just one session. You can contact Joan Krueger to discuss how hypnosis could help you achieve positive change in your own life by calling her at (314) 962-7558, or visiting her Web site at www.jfkhypnosis.com. clm

For Your Information

Should You Lease or Buy Your Next Car?

onventional wisdom used to say if you lease, you’ll have nothing to show

of leasing. Consider the primary advantages and disadvantages of leasing: QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE To help you decide between purchasing and leasing your next car, consider the following questions: 1. Do you need to conserve cash? Usually the only money required when you lease is the first payment and fees associated with registering the vehicle.

1. Lower Monthly Payments. Since you are only paying off the depreciation on the car -- not its full value -- your monthly payments are much lower than if you finance the purchase of the entire car over the same time period. 2. No up-front sales tax. In Missouri this is a substantial expense. Local and state taxes on a new car purchase total 6-8%. 3. Easy turnover. When your lease is up, you just hand over the keys, and drive out with a brand new car and a new lease arrangement. You don’t have to bother with selling the car or haggling over tradein value. 4.Tax advantages for business owners. Leasing a car may offer tax advantages if the vehicle is used for business purposes. 5. Options. At the end of the lease, if the car is worth more than the residual value, you can trade it in and use the equity toward your new car, you can purchase the car and keep it, or sell the car and keep the profit. If the car is worth less than the residual, you can turn it back in and walk away. 6. Equity. On a lease, equity is never a problem at termination. If you have equity-it’s yours(see #5 above), out of equity-turn it back to lender.

1. Lack of Flexibility. Like a 5-year loan, usually you do not have equity on a lease until near the end of term. You can trade prematurely, but it will depend on your credit and equity situation.

2. You May Pay Extra. Most leases charge an extra 10-15 cents for each mile over a certain limit, usually 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year. But the lease can be tailored to whatever your driving habits are, so the miles are built in up front. Also, you’ll have to pay for any damage beyond normal wear and tear when you turn it in. 3. Insurance May Come Up Short. If the car is totaled or stolen, insurance may only reimburse you for the car’s current market value, which might not cover remaining lease payments. Gap coverage is an optional product offered to prevent this from happening.

2. How often do you want a new car? Leasing is attractive for people who want a new car every three years or so. 3. How much do you drive? If you drive substantially above the lease mileage limits, you will have to pay 10-15 cent per mile extra. If you drive substantially less, you may pay for depreciation you won’t use. 4. Do you use your car for business? If you are deducting a portion of your car expense from your taxes, you may be able to deduct substantially more if you lease. 5. Are you concerned about your car’s resale value? If you worry about your car’s resale value, leasing can provide some security. The risk is with the lender, not the driver.

It is important to consider a vehicle that best retains its value. If you lease a car, anticipated depreciation is factored into your payments. And if you purchase, retained value is critical for maximizing your resale or trade-in. In Kelley Blue Book’s 2013 Best Resale Value Awards, Toyota and Scion brands accounted for five of the top ten cars in retained value. Seeger Toyota Scion is a family-owned and operated business that brings a century of service to its customers. A Road Trip Into America’s Hidden Heart Travelling the Back Roads, Back Woods, and Backyards by John Drake Robinson

For replacing or upgrading your windows, we replicate historical and authentic historic styles. Approved by Saint Louis Cultural Resources and eligible for Energy Tax Credits.

e bought the car a dozen years ago. Together, they traveled every mile of every road on his highway map, a 250,000 mile journey to discover the real America beyond the interstate. Real people. Obscure places. Forgotten facts. His story unfolds in Missouri, but it could be about any state, any traveler who drives into America’s hidden heart. As John puts it, “My ride and me, we never used a GPS. No compass. No MapQuest. We abstained from sextants. For the first third of this journey, a state highway map was our only guide.” “…irreverent sense of humor.” —Tom Uhlenbrock, St. Louis Post Dispatch “No one knows Missouri’s backroads like John Robinson.” — Jim McCarty, Rural Missouri Magazine To learn more about the book, read John’s blog and order a copy, visit www.johndrakerobinson.com. clm

any of us have lived here our whole lives, yet there is so much we don’t know about the rich history of our county. County Living Publications has re-published this 100-year old book that documents the county’s first 100 years. It covers the period from the earliest settlers in the region, up through the Civil War and into the first decade of the 20th Century. First published in 1911, it is now available to help commemorate the 200th anniversary of the organization of St. Louis County on October 1, 1812. Every time you pick up the book and read a chapter you come away with an appreciation of life here 100 years ago, or a little nugget of information that has relevance to today. This book makes a great Holiday, business or personal gift. For quantity pricing, more information or to order the book, please visit www.stlcountyhistory.com. clm
