KISH Team Takes 2017 High School Hockey Championship
2017
It was an exciting week of high school hockey (April 3-8) with 15 teams participating this year. Championship Game KISH 2 KRHS 1 Scoring for KISH in the second period was Matt Rogerson. Replying for Kinkora late in the third to tie the game was Brandon MacLeod. Rhys Caseley and Kyle MacGuigan scored for KISH in the shootout. Peyton Lauwerijssen stopped both shots he faced in the shootout to preserve the victory. Lorne Wood was in net for Kinkora. Semi-Final Game KISH 5 Rural 4 Scoring for KISH were Rhys Caseley with three goals, Jesse Wolfe scored one and Kystof Wigmore scored the winning goal. Peyton Lauwerijssen was the winning goaltender. KISH defeated Montague 4-2 in sudden dead seeding game. Scoring for KISH were Rhys Caseley with 3 goals. Krystof Wigmore also scored one goal. Peyton Lauwerijssen was the winning goaltender. KISH defeated TOSH 8-2 in their second round robin game. Kyle MacGuigan recored the hat trick. Rhys Caseley scored two goals. Mitchell Gaudet, Bailey Stavert, and Rhys Caseley scored single goals. Scoring for Montague were Emma Stewart, Kelly Clements, KISHORA defeated Bluefield 1-0 in their opening game. Madeline Hamill scored the winning goal. Hannah LeClair recored the shutout. KISHORA defeated TOSH 8-0 in their second round robin game. Scoring for KISHORA were Lexi Murphy with 2 goals, Kelsey Weeks, Mary-Kate Picketts, Brittany Peters, Alexis Mulligan, and Victoria Bond. Hannah LeClair picked up the shutout! Colonel Gray defeated KISHORA 4-0 in the 2 teams final round robin game.

Sunshine and Smiles- a happy angler on opening day of trout fishing, April 15, in Bonshaw.
For those not aware, the Bonshaw Community Centre, located on the Green Road just off the Trans Canada Highway # 1 plays host to a variety of Community Events. One Event of particular importance this time of year was the Annual Fisherman’s Breakfast, held on opening day of the trout season, Saturday, April 15th as it has been for 20 plus years now. Breakfast was served at 4 AM and what a spread it was, including eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, pancakes, juice, toast, coffee, jam and homemade baked beans. Despite the early hour, dozens of jovial and eager anglers were present to enjoy the early morning scoff, swap fishing stories and enjoy the friendly camaraderie before heading to their “secret” fishing hole ! However, this great tradition has been enriched as of late, this is now the third year, since 2014 that the Murphy Family has taken over the reins from Sheldon MacNevin. It is now called the “Annual Matthew Murphy Memorial Fisherman’s Breakfast”. The Murphy Family are avid anglers to say the least, and Matthew was no exception ! How has this annual tradition been enriched you might ask ? In the Fall of 2014 Matthew took his own life, he was 19 years of age. He suffered mostly in silence,
