Following years of contentious financial and staffing cuts at Marine Elementary School, administrators of the Stillwater Area Public School Dis-

trict have proposed closing the school after the 2016-‘17 school year. Withrow and Oak Park would also be closed if the school board approves the plan unveiled at a Dec. 17 learning session, during which Superintendent Denise Pontrelli and other administrators explained the reasoning behind the closures. A 5-year-old girl who had attended preschool in Scandia, Jaidyn Grace Andrus, died Sunday morning, Dec. 13, in a mobile home fire in Ham Lake. The fire is believed to have started in her bedroom shortly after midnight, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear and is under investigation. Andrus, 36, succeeded after several attempts in pulling her from her bedroom, but she died at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. Scott Andrus was also hospitalized for injuries.
