Council to consider 2.5 percent budget increase BY KYLE WEAVER CONTRIBUTING WRITER
The City of Scandia may be looking at a slight increase in its local tax levy in 2019. In examining the city’s 2019 budget last week, the Scandia City Council agreed to an initial local levy of $2,313,880, a 2.5 percent increase over 2018. The council will likely vote on its tax
levy resolution at its next meeting. Once the amount is set, the levy may be decreased, but cannot be increased. According to staff reports, the current budget plan has the city spending $10,000 on codifying the city’s ordinances, $8,800 on an increase of the police services contract, and $13,600 for additional parks maintenance services.
