The Marine on St Croix Planning Commission will consider a proposed development at the north end of city limits near the state park next week. BY JIM MORTWEDT REPORTER

A proposed multi-housing development along Highway 95 next to William O’Brien State Park north of Marine on St. Croix needs a zoning change to go forward. The city’s Planning Commission will consider the matter Tuesday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall (shortly after the publication of this edition of the Messenger). residence is also located near the property sought for development. The 16.5-acre parcel has 1098 feet of highway frontage and corresponding traffic noise, the management of which would likely restrict the number of housing units built there, if a zoning change is approved. Water and sewer service pose another possible hurdle to the proposed development along Highway 95. The nearby Marine Stugas

The public will have the opportunity to participate in a unique citizen science project at their local baseball diamond or park. Citizen scientists can intercept the foraging wasps using an aerial net and the beetle prey can be captured and identified to determine if Emerald Ash Borers, the invasive insect that destroyed hundreds of millions of ash trees in more than 20 states, are present at that site.
