Vinterfest is coming Mark your calendars for Vinterfest 2016, to be held on Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30. This year’s celebration features the usual lineup, with the addition of youth hockey. Keep an eye out for an encore appearance of the Saami-inspired reindeer herder sighted at last year’s festival.

Scandia Marine Lions Club will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
A Vintage Snowmobile Show will be held on Big Marine Lake starting with a Show and Swap at 9:30 a.m. Other activities include a Vintage Snowmobile Contest judging at 1 p.m. and Vintage Snowmobile ride at 1:30 p.m. Shoreline trails will be open all day and the Vets Camp Cantina will be open for food and beverage service.

Marine on St. Croix volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad member Joe Stoehr takes advantage of bitter cold temperatures to flood the Marine on St. Croix Elementary School ice rink. Annually, squad members donate their time and effort to create the popular local attraction, while maintaining their firefighting skills. Bitter cold temperatures over the weekend ensured a quick freeze.
