Dueling Protests on Trump/Musk were peaceful in Crescent City

Two countering demonstrations occurred along Highway 101, on the public sidewalk, in front of the Del Norte County Fairground in Crescent City, Saturday.

The Hands-Off rally of those opposing President Trump and DOGEist Elon Musk, estimated to be between 250-300 was peaceful but vocal on President Trump and Musk’s policies. There was no violence at this well-planned National protest. Though this event was identified as a Del Norte event, many participants identified themselves as Humboldt, Mendocino, Sonoma, and Bay Area residents from as far away as Santa Cruz. Across the street, on the public sidewalk in front of CVS Pharmacy, a smaller group organized

Man’s Best Friend Adoption Day at Bayside

Dogs of Del Norte sponsored an adoption event for Man’s Best Friend, last Saturday.

The 2nd annual adoption event was a big success in finding homes for these canines in an extremely over-crowded animal shelter.

Funds were collected with the sale of raffle tickets. Additionally, there was an unannounced donation event for the sale of guitars from Pelican Bay State Prison Alissa from Dogs of Del Norte 508 Dogs have been placed in Del Norte home over the year 2024. Currently, the pound has 30-40 dogs available for adoption.

No dogs went to their new homes, this weekend. Those wishing to adopt filed the appropriate paperwork subject to review by Dogs of Del Norte.

Tom Hutzell displayed several of the PBSP guitars which raised $14,000, year.

Special thanks and appreciation goes to Alissa, Dogs of Del Norte adoption coordinator, Felicia Murphy and Mimi Stephen’s of Bayside Realty, Eileen Bennett, supervisor of Animal Control, Camp Barry Dog Rescue and absolutely wonderful sunny weather for the outdoor event.

The event raised $1400 and lots of happy new parents for the benefit of Dogs of Del Norte.

Easter Sunday falls on April 20 this year. As they have done for last 45 years, Smith River Lily growers Rob and Kara Miller take a huge sigh of relief after thousands of boxes of Easter Lilies reached their destination for families who celebrate this holiday. The Millers’ Easter Lily farm is Dahlstrom and Watt bulb farm. Indeed, the Easter Lily greenhouse grower and field bulb farmer is just one of the of the depleting roster of Lily growers remaining in Del Norte County; the others are Palmer/ Westbrook and United Lily Growers: the Crockett family. This trio harvests and distributes the bulbs to greenhouses across the United States and Canada to flower for Easter. “80 percent of the lilies in North America and Canada come from the Smith River Valley.

This totals more than $6 million annually,” says Rob Miller. Miller underscored the trials and travails of producing this magnificent product which must be available in the store or greenhouse by Easter

Sunday. The things that can go wrong can fill a telephone book.

“It’s what I do,” harkens Miller. “…and it’s tough.”

Jewish Community Celebrates Passover

The Jewish Community began the week-long celebration of Passover, April 12. The eight day holiday commemorates the Exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. The Celebration commemorates with a special meal called a Seder and the eating of un-leavened bread called matzah.

The story of Passover is recounted in reading from the Haggadah, the ritual account of the Exodus story. The significance of removing of all leaven denotes the rush to exit Egypt and not permitting the bread to rise, creating chametz also known as matzah

Two studying-Rabbis from New York, Schmuel and Mendel representing the Chabad from Ashland, stopped by the homes of all

Jews from Gold Beach to Crescent City, to deliver the hand-made Shmurah (round) Matzah and conduct a Phylacteries (Remember the

Law) prayer to those who wished the embracement. Passover concludes April 20.

Apparently, Supervisor “didn’t get the memo” Darrin Short is willing to take Del Norte Coun-ty down the recent and disastrous path of Santa Barbara County. Similar circumstances regarding Santa Barbara’s decision to replace its ambulance service compare favorably with Del Norte County’s vote 3-2 this past year and have placed Del Norte County’s Board on the RFP path to search for a replacement ambulance service at the behest of Supervisor Short and local fire chiefs. Santa Barbara’s supervisors pathway lodged the County’s Board on the wrong side of a million-dollar lawsuit. How clever of them.

Supervisor Short, who is clearly a little “short” on the uptake, has recently inserted his memo-less self in the County’s RFP process by nominating

What’s

himself to serve on the North Coast Emergency Medical Services Ad Hoc committee to determine Del Norte Ambulance’s fate. No doubt to continue placing Short’s very large thumb on the scale where objectivity continues to elude the memo-less Short. Short, a longtime associate with the local Crescent Fire and Rescue, appears to have been manipulated into filing the original complaint brought by four of the five fire chiefs in Del Norte County in an effort to supplant Del Norte Ambulance as the sole provider for EMS 9-1-1 services within the county. Four of the local chiefs who sent the letter, now in the pub-lic’s view, fail in every way possible to explain the fire departments complaints. Repeated efforts in the community have not produced any fur-

ther explanation for the fire depart-ment’s allegations. How surprising! No matter how this situation is resolved, the local fire chiefs will only be happy if the ambu-lance service is placed in their hands, something unlikely to happen due to cost. Even if an-other EMS provider is located and the County survives an almost guaranteed lawsuit, the fire department will not be happy.

In this particular circumstance, Short would have been wise to avoid his unnecessary par-ticipation in the ensuing discussion with his clear conflict of interest and elected to recuse himself in the process going forward. No such luck!

Unfortunately, Short continues to fail to realize his original allegations against Del Norte Ambu-

lance have failed to pass the “smell test.” Further allegations after Short’s decision to join the NCEMS ad hoc committee are only likely to strengthen any lawsuit brought by Del Norte Ambulance against the county should DNAMB not be awarded the emergency services provider after 2028.

Clearly, Supervisor Starkey during her Board report of March 11th must have stumbled upon the weakness of the allegations by Short and the fire chiefs when she pivoted to “an updat-ed contract” as the reason for her vote in 2024. Something not even discussed at the time. Not surprisingly, Short was left behind in the haste to explain why the county was spending $150,000+ of “emergency funding” when it already had an acceptable EMS provider

New in Healthcare

in Del Norte Ambulance.

Talk about the imbecile not sending the memo to the idiot. Perhaps, one of the other two morons who voted for the RFP could have made this happen. Nevertheless, the continued efforts by Supervisors Short, Starkey and the Chairman Joey Borges to replace Del Norte Ambulance and justify the expense are not selling well with the public. At least three members of the Board of Supervisors are living up to their well-earned titles of being Easter Island statues.

Clearly, somewhat late, but necessary damage control should be exerted by the “No” voting members of the Board, Dean Wilson and Chris How-ard, before Darrin Short takes them all down with the Titanic. “Nothing to see here” is defi-nitely not selling well.

The current expense of $97,000 of emergency funding to End Point Consulting has gone for no purpose. Further expenditures to cement the Board action at ambulance service re-placement is risky, unnecessary, and will end badly for the County’s residents.

At the end of this current mess, none of the Supervisors involved are likely to suffer the consequences of their foolish actions. Supervisor “memo-less” Darrin Short, Supervisor “consolation prize” Valery Starkey, and the worthless one Chair Joey Borges have shown themselves to be devoid of the nature of sound representative government on a very weak Board of Supervisors. 2026 a year to make changes on the Board, 2028 to finish the job.

in Del Norte County:

House Calls Are Back, Bringing Better Access and Improved Outcomes

In Del Norte County, residents are now enjoying something reminiscent of older classic television shows, harkening back to simpler times. Remember the old Marcus Welby, MD TV show? The doctor, with a kind bedside manner, made house calls and was on a first-name basis with many of his patients. After his examination, he would console the family and announce, “Don’t worry, she’ll be just fine.”

But what’s old is new again as actual house calls are making a comeback, providing better access and improved outcomes here in Del Norte County. Many older adults are now benefiting from programs being offered through many health insurers who bring nurse practitioners and their preventive care skills into the homes of older adults. The nurse practitioners spend up to an hour with patients, checking their health and helping them make connections to other social services so they can live a better, more independent life.

Del Norte County is faring worse than the average county in California for Population Health and Well-being, and about the same as the average county in the nation, according to County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a national study operated by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In Del Norte County, California, 24% of adults reported that they consider themselves in fair or poor health, compared to 18% for California.

One nurse practitioner who is a true believer of home house calls them has seen firsthand how the program is saving lives. She describes it as putting out fires before they ever start.

She fondly talks about Jack as an example of how the program is making a difference. One day, after Jack had finished doing his chores, he noticed that he was breathing a little hard. It worsened

when he went inside the house. Fortunately, his nurse practitioner was due for her visit to see Jack. She immediately noticed something wasn’t right when Jack’s blood pressure shot up dangerously high, at 217/110. She insisted that he go to the doctor and receive care. Jack admitted that if she hadn’t come over, he wouldn’t have gone to the doctor, saying, “They found my widow maker, my vein to my heart, and it was 97% clogged.” The doctor placed a stent in his heart, preventing a massive heart attack. He calls his nurse practitioner his “guardian angel.” Jack credits his nurse practitioner for saving his life.

Colleen, another nurse practitioner who makes house calls, likes to get to know her patients by visiting them regularly in their homes. During a recent visit with her patient, Sue, she sensed there was a problem right away. Sue was having bad pain in the back of her calf — to the point where she couldn’t walk. Colleen performed a pain assessment and used a screening tool to measure the blood flow to Sue’s legs and feet. The screening showed Sue had poor circulation in her leg that, if left untreated, could have resulted in serious complications, potentially leading to the loss of her leg. Colleen sought proper medical attention immediately, which not only saved Sue’s life but also saved her independence.

Harkening back to house calls is something old that’s new again and improving the lives of older adults.

In response to: Samuel Strait and The Triplicates Wednesday, March 26th, Courage of The Ambulance Crisis in Crescent City. I concur one hundred percent with their commentary on emergency ambulance service in Crescent City. I’ve used Del Norte Ambulance Service twice in my forty years living in Crescent City and had excellent service. I also have heard of no complaints from other citizens that have used their services. I would simply refer to two old adages.

Ted Ray Ruggles, born on July 12, 1949, in Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his own home surrounded by his family on March 18, 2025. He was the only son of Oliver George Ruggles and Patsy Ruth (Wolff) Ruggles, a devoted husband to Donna Lee (Smith) Ruggles for 33 years, a loving father to Emily Caitlin Ruggles and Oliver Joseph Ruggles, a cherished brother to Mickey Marie (Ruggles) Fell and the late Julie Ann (Ruggles) Champion, and an uncle to Heather Marie (McCoy) Butler and the late Ryan Patrick McCoy. Ted’s warmth and kindness touched all who knew him.

After graduating from Indiana University, Ted went on to graduate school in behavioral psychology at two preeminent institutions in the field, earning a master’s degree from Western Michigan University and a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. He distinguished himself as a consummate scholar, publishing articles, book chapters, and presenting numerous papers at national conferences. Recognizing his talents, faculty at Kansas kept him on after he completed his Ph.D. to continue his teaching and research. Despite his busy schedule, Ted was always ready for an adventure. One day, he and his best friend Greg walked into a motorcycle store, bought two new motorcycles, packed their bags, and rode across Kansas into the Colorado Rockies in search of fun.

From Kansas, Ted headed west to California to seek his fortune. He first worked at Sonoma State Hospital, where he developed a model for evaluat-

ing treatment effectiveness, which later became the statewide standard. From Sonoma, he moved to Humboldt County, becoming a highly sought-after psychologist for the Redwood Coast Regional Center. He founded Northern California Developmental Services, which provided support for individuals in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties for 41 years. Ted then went on to serve as Chief Psychologist at Pelican Bay State Prison. Once again, his competence was recognized, and he subsequently became an expert for a federal court-appointed special master tasked with evaluating the statewide implementation of mandated mental health services in the state prison system. Ted clearly distinguished himself wherever he worked.

After moving to Northern California, Ted met the love of his life, Donna, and together they built their family and home in Humboldt County. After that, he spent over 25 years in Gasquet, California, where he found joy in the tranquility of rural life. He had a dream of building a house from the ground up and turned that dream into reality. Using his woodworking talents and attention to detail, he handcrafted or directed every aspect of the construction of their home in Gasquet, creating a space perfectly suited to his family and as unique as he was. Without reserve, Ted deeply loved his family, and his desire to provide a beautiful home and surroundings was driven by his wish to offer them abundant opportunities.

Ted’s passion for gar-

dening, nature, and animals was a source of inspiration and comfort to his family and friends. His legacy of love and dedication will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate to know him.

Though Ted tended to be a quiet man, just below the surface was a wonderful, creative sense of humor, and an amazingly broad competence. Ted was one of those rare people who could do anything, from car repair to woodworking to complex psychological work. If he didn’t already know how to do something, he would learn. In a letter of recommendation for Ted, one of his faculty advisors at the University of Kansas described him as “a man’s man.” She was referring to Ted as quietly strong and capable. In his poem “If,” Rudyard Kipling wrote that if a man could “talk with crowds and keep his virtue and walk with kings—nor lose the common touch,” he would be a man. That was Ted.

Ted will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

In 1966, Bob Miller, Sr. bought into Dahlstrom and Watt when Cecil Watt retired. 12 years later, Rob Miller came out of UC Davis and joined his Dad in owning and managing Dahlstrom and Watt. Rob and Kara’s son Kurt is the greenhouse manager.

Over the decades, demand for the all white, trumpet flower, religious symbol honoring Jesus Christ has been slowly decreasing.

“In 1966, there were 26 lily growers from Salem and McKinleyville. Now, there are just three,” says Miller. In total, the trio grows about 200 acres on Del Norte County. Rob and Kara operate their farm on six acres of covered greenhouses.

Bob Miller, Sr. and family came from the Mid-West, where he was a professor doing Horticulture research at Ohio State University. Senior passed away two years ago at 92.

The growers in the greenhouse anticipate everything culminating on Easter Sunday and that date changes annually.

Rob explained the Lily cycle. The cycle begins with bulb planting in the Fall. Both small bulbs and/ or scales are planted.

Scales are the specialized leaves designed for food storage that are attached to the basal plate which together make up the bulb. When separated and planted, a small bulb will grow at its base. It can take two to three years for a saleable bulb to be produced.

Each year after planting, everything is dug up and sorted, the commercials are packed and sold and

everything else is replanted for another year of growth. When the plant is ready, it is packed and shipped to greenhouse growers around the nation who force the bulbs to produce flowers for Easter. The natural cycle of the plant blooms in July in the fields in Smith River. What can go wrong in the process? Plenty. Putting small pieces of fleshy bulbs into the soil in late summer and hoping one has something amazing A year later after 80 inches of rain, soil and airborne fungi, bacteria, nematodes (worms), freezes, gophers and government oversight is truly an act of faith and a highly regarded agricultural methodology. March 29, 2025

Hiouchi, CA – In the latest collaboration spanning a twenty-year partnership, the Smith River Alliance and Cal Poly Humboldt Natural Resources Club engaged local volunteers and Six Rivers National Forest law enforcement staff on March 29th, 2025. Participants removed one ton of trash and recyclables from a target shooting area off the South Fork Road. Meanwhile, a smaller team eradicated hundreds of noxious weeds at a separate location several miles upstream.

This cleanup and invasive plant removal was organized by Smith River Alliance, which educated participants on the harmful effects of microtrash and noxious weeds, and provided tools, supplies, and personal protective equipment. Special thanks to the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority, Hiouchi Café, and the Del Norte County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office for supporting this impactful stewardship project.

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a

lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to fee and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO TENANT: You may have the right to purchase this property after the trustee auction, pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. If you are an “eligible bidder,” you may be able to purchase the property if you exceed the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. There are three steps to exercising this right of purchase. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call 530-2462727; Toll Free: 844-3336766, or visit this internet website: calforeclosures. biz, using the file number assigned to this case: TS#24-3147, to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the street address of the trustee. Second, you must send a written notice of intent to place a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 15 days after the trustee’s sale. Third, you must submit a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 45 days after the trustee’s sale. If you think you may qualify as an “eligible tenant buyer” or “eligible bidder,” you should consider contacting an attorney or appropriate real estate professional immediately for advice regarding this potential right to purchase. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if

applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call the trustee’s information line at 530-246-2727; Toll Free: 844-333-6766, or visit this Internet Website: calforeclosures.biz, using the file number assigned to this case: TS #243147. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (855) 313-3319 or visit this Internet website www. clearreconcorp.com, using the file number assigned to this case 130696CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled

sale. NOTICE TO TENANT: Effective January 1, 2021, you may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call (855) 313-3319, or visit this internet website www. clearreconcorp.com, using the file number assigned to this case 130696-CA to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Daniels no-hitter highlights good day for Warriors in Big 5 openers

The Del Norte Warriors enjoyed a good start to the Big 5 in both baseball and softball over the weekend, with each team sweeping a doubleheader at Arcata High. Senior Preston Daniels showed why he is one of the most dangerous pitchers in the H-DNL and threw a complete-game five-inning no-hitter in game one of the baseball doubleheader, leading the Del Norte boys to a 17-0 win.

They followed that with a come-from-behind 13-10 win in a high-scoring game two.

“He went in there and he took care of business,” Del Norte head coach Jeff Cook said of the senior ace. “He was confident. He was ready to go. It was the first league game and he was pumped.”

The two wins stretched the Warriors’ unbeaten run to eight straight, and since a surprising early-season 5-4 loss at Hoopa the Del Norte boys have been the hottest team in the H-DNL. Daniels got plenty of run support.

Del Norte’s Marco Gonzalez led the way at the plate in game one and finished 3-for-4, while Aidan Rice went 2-for-3.

Game two was a different story.

The Warriors broke the game open with six runs in the top of the second and appeared to be cruising to another big win.

But the home team would grow into the game and battled back, taking a one-run lead heading into the seventh.

The Warriors dug deep late in the game and scored

four runs in the final inning to complete the sweep.

“That’s a great start (to the Big 5),” Cook said. “I thought we did a good job.”

Rice was once again instrumental in the win in game two and finished 2-for-3, while teammate Anthony Cardenas walked seven times on the day and scored six runs on those free passes.

With the two wins, the Warriors improved to 8-4-1 overall.

The Del Norte girls were equally impressive in their conference openers.

The two-time defending conference champs appear to be the team to beat once again this spring and the weekend games seemed to back that belief.

They opened with a 15-4 victory and took game two 10-1.

The sweep stretched the team’s winning streak to seven straight as the Warriors improved to 9-1 overall.

Several players in a senior-heavy lineup stepped up in both conference wins and they appear pumped up to win a third straight conference title.

None more so than pitcher Shay Nolan and catcher Carlee Harper, who was the Big 5 MVP in 2024.

Nolan pitched both wins and was in control for much of the two games, working well with Harper behind the plate.

Nolan also showcased her power on offense and hit a three-run home run in game one to set the tone for her teammates.

“Shay pitched very well in the circle,” Del Norte head coach Aaron Healy said. “She figures things out, her and Carlee behind the plate. They work well together.”

Several other Warriors also impressed the coach, including senior third baseman Tsinte Steinruck, who had three doubles on the day, as well as junior Bella Arriola, who hit a home run in game two.

After missing much of last season through injury, senior Khloe Smith is fully healthy this spring and her impact on defense is being felt while making the team even stronger this season.

“There’s nothing better than Khloe at 100 percent,”

HELP WANTED: DNUSD Needs Special Ed Teachers

Healy said of the shortstop who also hit a couple of doubles at the plate. “She’s smooth and she does her job, and she hit the ball well today. She had a very complete two games.” Junior outfielder Bliss Blackburn and freshman first baseman Addi Whitford also got the Big 5 off to impressive starts. Blackburn played mostly just on defense last year but has quickly established herself as a legitimate threat at the plate as well this season and she had multiple hits over the two games, including a couple of doubles.

“She had a great day at the plate,” Healy said of the multi-sport standout, who also made some nice plays in center field, “She does a lot of things right.” The Fortuna Huskies look like the biggest challengers to the Warriors for the Big 5 crown this season, although a dangerous McKinleyville Panthers team could also be in the mix, and the Del Norte girls will play both schools three times each in conference play.

The Del Norte girls travel to Fortuna for a pivotal doubleheader this weekend after the Huskies also began conference play strong with a doubleheader sweep over Eureka.

The Del Norte Unified School District (DNUSD) has a major problem: Certificated Special Education Teachers are becoming more difficult to hire in remote Del Norte County.

Superintendent Jeff Harris and the School Board are now reaching out internationally. Six Special Ed Teachers from the Philippines have recently joined the DNUSD staff to fill the void on the District’s frustration in attempting to higher Certificated staff. School Board Member Michael Greer expressed his thoughts on why the desperate shortage of special education teachers has worsened. “We are suffering because the committee which oversees teacher hiring is completely out of touch. The problem is not among the Special Ed Teachers. The Commission on Teacher Credentialing

requires a mound of additional course and paperwork be taken and completed by qualified Teachers from other States. Many of these courses are in the area of ethnic studies.” Board Trustee Greer shared many of our State legislators have no knowledge on the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. How it functions and many of its new requirements implemented overseeing how Certificated teachers are hired.

Superintendent Harris shared the recent hiring of Certificated staff from the Philippines who have begun teaching in Special Education in Del Norte County. These Certificated staff have agreed to take the addition course work to achieve Clear Credential which will be paid for by DNUSD. Harris states, “It’s easier to hire Certificated Staff from the Philippines than from Oregon.”

Those applicants for financial assistance may satisfy this obligation over a five year period, forgiving 20 percent of the debt, annually.

Special Education is in a class by itself and very difficult to fill, especially in rural California. If one wishes to teach with Special Education students, the scaffolding of this area is divided into four areas, each one requiring a separate credential: Mild; Moderate; Emotional Disability; Autism. If an applicant intends to climb this ladder, additional course and paperwork are mandated by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Bills are currently being discussed to change some of the existing laws allowing prospective teachers to educate our kids.

California Climate Credit to appear on customer

power bills

Pacific Power residential and small business customers can expect to see a credit of $259.36 on their April electricity bill as part of California’s efforts to fight climate change. The twice annual California Climate Credit provides ratepayers with their share of the benefits of California’s Cap-and-Trade Program, which requires large industries that emit greenhouse gases to buy carbon pollution permits.

The majority of Pacific Power’s proceeds are split evenly across each residential household and qualifying small business after covering administrative and outreach expenses and funding clean energy programs.

The California Climate Credit is designed to help customers as the state transitions to a low-carbon future. Each year, the state issues a limited number of greenhouse gas emission allowances in line with California’s goal of reducing its overall emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030.

A second credit in the same amount will appear on eligible customers’ October bills.

Customers can call Pacific Power at 888-221-7070 for information about their bill and can learn more about the California Climate Credit at the CPUC website.
