Repair it, or tear it down! City issues dangerous building orders JEREMY C. RUARK jruark@countrymedia.net
The City of Lincoln City has deemed two downtown structures as dangerous buildings and has ordered the property owners to either repair the structures or tear them down.
Work to repair the first building on the west side of Highway 101 at 14th Street is under way after the City’s building inspector issued an order March 26 to the building owner, Paul Schibig, of Newport, to repair or demolish the structure. “The city had asked the property owner to do improvements to the structure because we view it as a dangerous building,” said Lincoln City Community Develop-
ment Director Richard Townsend. “The building is in deteriorating condition and you can see the building is sagging in the middle. It was getting worst. There was a potential for it to collapse.” Lincoln City City Attorney Richard Appleicello said there were a number of safety issues at the building. “Including an awning which was See BUILDING, Page A6 See BUILDINGS, Page A6

Deck the walls at Goodwill $5.2 million store to open this fall
JEREMY C. RUARK jruark@countrymedia.net
Construction for the $5.2 million Lincoln City Goodwill store at Highway 101 and 9th Street reached a significant point Wednesday, July 9, as crews carefully placed large walls into place for the new store. “We are putting up 30 panels using a 250,000 ton Crane that can lift at its max 500,000 pounds,” Goodwill spokesperson Dale Emanuel said. “The average size of the panels are 26-feet tall by 25-feet wide. They weigh between 60,000 to
80,000 pounds each.” Construction for the store began in May. The store is expected to be open this fall. Goodwill Industries International, Inc., of Columbia Willamette, plans to relocate its current store in the Lighthouse Shopping Center to the site across the street from Lincoln City City Hall. Goodwill plans to open the new 22,134 square foot store in September. See GOODWILL, Page A6
