Assistant Principal Kelly Hart has been named athletic director at Taft High 7-12, replacing Tim Dressler, who has resigned and is expected to accept a similar position in the Tacoma, Wash., area. “Tim has done amazing work in revitalizing our athletic department on a participatory and organizational level,” Taft Principal Majalise Tolan said. “Taft is very appreciative of the time, effort and dedication he has given to our program, coaches and student-athletes.” Dressler’s wife, Rebecca, also will be leaving

Lincoln City Police have made an arrest in a driveby shooting that took place May 24 in the 2200 block of West Devils Lake Road. On the evening of May 29, detectives from Lincoln City Police and the Oregon State Police arrested Felix Daniel Garcia Mendoza, 21, at a residence in the N.W. 3400 block of Oar Avenue for assault in connection with the shooting. Garcia was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail. Lincoln City Police Detective Bud Lane said the victim, Jeramie Philpot, 27, of Lincoln City, suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. Due to the ongoing investigation, detectives are not

I will miss the sports atmosphere and the sports culture that is growing at Taft.” Hart’s hiring marks the fifth athletic director Taft has had in the past six years, following Mychal Williams, Paul Tucker, Kris Wilkinson and Dressler. “Kelly has experience as a high school coach and athletic director while at Mollala,” Tolan said. “Her passion for athletics and the development of the whole student-athlete will allow us to continue the

Philpot was taken to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital and to a Portland hospital for treatment.
