Oregon State Park rangers are stepping up education and outreach efforts to prevent damage and erosion caused by people taking shortcuts from and carving on beach cliffs. Rangers said the damage can be seen all along the Coast, but is especially evident in the Roads End area of Lincoln City. “There is accelerated cliff crumbling and rock slides in the Roads End area mostly attributed to cliff carving and people taking shortcuts from the cliff to the beach,” Ben Cox Oregon State Parks Manager said. “There are sections of the fence where people climb through and erosion is very evident.” Local residents have posted an online warning to

beachgoers about the rockslides caused by the erosion. According to the website, Roads End Community, there are two areas of concern: “The largest rocks are about halfway between the last houses on Logan Road and the end of the beach. Note that high tide can force you to walk near this rockslide. Rocks have also fallen at the end of the beach at Roads End Rock. There has been a lot of rain and the

The Lincoln City City Council unanimously voted Monday, March 24, to grant permission for the City to apply for funding to purchase 6.7 acres of former Taft Elementary School property on S.E. 51st Street from the Lincoln County School District. Several local coaches, youth sports participants and their parents gathered at City Hall to urge local leaders to pursue purchase of the property with an Oregon Parks and Recreation Local Government Grant to help alleviate a shortage of playing fields and give area youth and residents a city park. “Think of the investment in our kids’ future,” longtime local soccer coach Ray Santos said. “We may not be around to enjoy that field, but our kids will be.” Lincoln City Parks Board Chairman Steve Griffiths, representing many in the crowd, cited Lincoln City’s 2001 Master Parks Plan, which concluded that the City demanded more park space for its citizens and tourists. It also cited the 2008 Parks Capital Improvement
