COVID-19 test results return to Lakeview Senior Living max kirkendall newsguardeditor@countrymedia.net

Long-term care facilities everywhere have been going above and beyond the recommended safety protocols to protect vulnerable residents against COVID-19. When a staff member at Lakeview Senior Living in Lincoln City tested positive in June, the facility decided to test all residents as a precaution. Now, all the results are in, yielding just one additional positive case. On Wednesday, June 17, staff members who work at the Lakeview Senior Living community were tested for COVID-19. On Thursday, June 25, Lakeview received the test results back from the Lincoln County Health Department, which revealed one of the 89 employees tested positive. The lone staff member was asymptomatic self-quarantined for 14-days. Lakeview worked with the Oregon Health Authority on contact tracing and had eight other staff members self-quarantine as well. On Sunday, July 19 Lincoln County Public Health confirmed to Westmont Lakeview

Creative Quarantine Workshop opens Aug. 1 the news guard

The Lincoln City Cultural Center (LCCC) began weekly Creative Quarantine (CQ) art kit distribution back on March 26, when the community’s

social isolation began. Ten weeks later, Krista Eddy and her crew (Jill Morris, Suzan Sachdeva and Beth Gerl) have made and distributed a whopping 2,600 kits to the young artists in the community. The Creative Quarantine Project has been on a short hiatus, giving the team a little time to rest and regroup, but during July, art kit making has returned to LCCC in a whole new form. They now have a beautiful new Creative Quarantine Workshop in the

space where the Yoga studio previously lived (the Yoga Studio will be back when it’s safe to do so.) And Art Kits are again being made in preparation for the opening of the workshop on August 1. This room will be adorned with shelves holding a selection of CQ Art Kits. You can choose from old favorites or brand new ones. Each hand made kit comes with supplies and instruc-

Most shops open at Lincoln City Outlets MAX KIRKENDALL newsguardeditor@countrymedia.net

As retailers across the state return to business amid the COVID-19 pandemic, many wonder which popular stores will outlast the financial burden of a months long shut down. In Lincoln City, a popular attraction to locals and visitors alike is the Lincoln City Outlets. After closing on March 23, the shops at the

outlet mall slowly began to reopen on May 15. Now, during the busy summer months, most of the mall’s 50 outlets remain open with fluctuating hours and numerous safety protocols in place. “Each store is doing its best to handle the current situation according to their specific situation,” said Sharyn Jasmer, general manager of the Lincoln City Outlets. “We strongly encourage all stores to operate in compliance with

the center’s operating hours. We encourage customers to check our website for the latest information on openings and individual store hours.” Popular stores such as Bath & Body Works, Columbia Factory Store, Nike Factory Store, The North Face, Old Navy, Pendleton, Under Armour and many others remain open currently, oftentimes with lines out the door due to the limiting of capacity

Chambers family keeps Mills Ace Hardware family-owned CHELSEA YARNELL Guest Contributor

In need of hardware, plumbing, electrical, and (especially right now) personal protective equipment? Look no further than Mills Ace Hardware. The Mills family bought the South store in Taft in 1972 and slowly expanded it by buying the buildings adjacent. Later, in the 1980s, they added the paint store, which was across the street, and was merged with the South store in 2018. Roughly

at the same time in the 1980s, Roger Mills with his son, Ty Mills, added the North store and it has steadily grown ever since. Recently, the Chambers family purchased Mills Ace Hardware from the Mills family in June of this year. Three members of the Chambers family are now owners in the business. “Since the Mills family originally bought the business in 1972, they have had a tradition of community support that we hope to continue,” said Jeremy Chambers, president, Sound Hardware DBA Mills Ace Hard-

ware. “And [we] will continue to focus on serving the local community. It has been successful because it has focused on its core business of hardware and customizing our offering to the local needs of Lincoln County.” Passing from one family to another, Mills Ace Hardware will continue to be family-operated and hyper local. “Most people in the US work for a small business. Family business is the backbone of the American economy, and we are able to be flexible and customize what we do to your specific

needs,” Jeremy said. “We are different because we do not have a one-size-fits-all approach; we will do whatever it takes to help our customers with whatever problem they bring us.” Mills Ace Hardware stocks and sells hardware, plumbing, electrical, lumber, rental, tools, lawn and garden, paint, cleaning supplies, housewares, PPE, BBQs, seasonal gear, and a whole lot more. “We hope that our customers have a great shopping experience by enjoying the help from the knowledge of our employees

and the wide variety of products. We are here to be helpful,” said Jeremy. Mills Ace Hardware has two locations known locally as the “North” and “South” locations; found in Lincoln City at 2047 NE 22nd St and 4910 SW Hwy 101. And if you’ve never stopped in, Jeremey encourage you to do so. “Give us a try,” Jeremy said. “You will be amazed at the friendly staff that is eager to help solve your problem. Besides, hanging out in your local hardware store is cool!”
