akeview Senior Living congratulates the team of Kathy Joy, Nancy Oksenholt and Renee Selvidge also known as The Three Wise Women as the winners of The People’s Choice Award at the recently held Gingerbread House Auction. The fundraiser for Angels Anonymous took place earlier this month at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. The gingerbread houses were on display for public viewing from the afternoon of Dec. 1 until the auction was held on Dec. 3. The winners were announced at the event after dozens of votes had been counted. “We’re very grateful to help Angels Anonymous and we’re surprised and humbled that we won the People’s Choice Award!” said Nancy Oksenholt, one of The Three Wise Women. Second place was a tie between a gingerbread house “Under Construction” made by Mystery Elf #1 and Candy Cane Village created by Family Resource Home Care. Third place was a tie between the gingerbread village with a train made by Girl Scout Troop #10143 and the gingerbread village with an ice-skating pond created by Signature Home Health &Hospice. Oregon Coast Today and various residents of Lakeview Senior Living also made gingerbread houses. “Angels Anonymous were not able to host a Christmas tree auction again this year, so we decided to

help them by planning the Gingerbread House Auction instead,” said Jennifer Whitmyer, executive director, Lakeview Senior Living. “Overall, we raised $1,470 through this auction and we’re super thankful to all of the participants who took part in the competition. We couldn’t

believe how much detail we saw in the construction of these gingerbread houses! And, in the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors, we want to thank everyone who purchased the gingerbread houses as well.” Angels Anonymous provides immediate and basic services to those

in need in the greater Lincoln City area, while complimenting existing services. For more information on Angels Anonymous, their ongoing work with the victims of the Echo Mountain Fire, and how you can become involved, please call (541) 992-4625.

City discusses overnight parking, overnight camping spaces HILARY DORSEY Editor

incoln City may soon have more options for overnight parking and overnight camping/resting spaces in some city and urban renewal parking lots. Lincoln City Council passed Monday, Dec. 13, an ordinance that amends the Lincoln City Municipal Code to recognizes permit exceptions to overnight parking and prohibited storage offenses. City Attorney Richard Appicello said Resolution 2021-46 includes a $50 parking permit fee for 48 hours. The ordinance states that no one shall park a vehicle overnight on a public park, public parking lot or any ocean shore area under the jurisdiction of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, unless parked in approved on-street or other public parking spaces with posted time limitations or a city permit for such spaces. Overnight metered parking may be authorized on nonresidentially zoned city and urban renewal parking lots when such parking is authorized by an approved parking and traffic control resolution. The council approved Ordinance 2021-25 amendments related to overnight parking. Appicello said parking fees

This is parking in a city lot in a designated space,” Appicello said of the $50 fee. In December 2020, the council passed a series of motions concerning traffic control studies and actions. One of the motions concerned overnight parking while another concerned overnight camping. Currently, overnight parking is permitted in legal parking spaces in

the city street right-of-way, subject to posted time limits and the 24-hour limit. There are some areas where residents or their guests do not have available overnight off-street parking. A limited number of metered parking spaces, located in city and URA parking lots, could relieve onstreet parking congestion. “Homeowners that didn’t have a place to park because of parking constraints on streets could utilize these spaces with a permit,” Appicello said of the overnight parking. These would not be reserved

spaces. People can obtain a permit and park in an assigned space. This is for people who cannot find a lawful parking space for free on the street. “In these lots, there could be a maximum of two spaces that are designated for overnight parking,” Appicello said. “Overnight parking is just the vehicle.” Appicello said the second part of the resolution addresses having a legal place for people to rest in their vehicles between 2:30 a.m. and 5

micron has been detected in Oregon, with at least three cases so far, Lincoln County Public Health reported Wednesday, Dec. 15. “It’s likely to be more transmissible than the delta virus,” Public Health Director Florence Pourtal reported during a board of commissioners meeting on Dec. 15. “Two to three times more transmissible is what we’re hearing at this time.” Pourtal said scientists from the U.K. are reporting omicron can neutralize the antibodies created by the primary doses. “Because this new variant is very good at breaking through even if you got your two first doses, it’s not going to be enough on top of a waning immunity,” Pourtal When people get the booster shot, the effectiveness of the vaccine rises back up. The vaccine works to protect you against hospitalization and severe illness, Pourtal added. The health department recommends people get their booster doses. “Because omicron is more transmissible than delta, and because we’re now inside, we want to be really careful as to putting those masks on and keeping our distance and washing our hands when we’re in a public indoor setting,” Pourtal said. “Those are all proven protection and prevention methods that have been implemented for two years now and we know they work.” There were 12 COVID-19 cases reported Monday, Dec. 13, and Tuesday, Dec. 14, for a total of 122 cases in December and 3,759 overall. One new death was reported Dec. 14, for a total of three in December. Oregon State University conducts a weekly wastewater sampling for surveillance purposes for a few counties, including Lincoln County. For the past few weeks, Lincoln County has been standing at ‘strong,’ which means the county is at the higher end of the virus appearing in the wastewater in Lincoln City, Newport and Siletz. The number of COVID-19 cases reported is much lower than the results of the November and December wastewater readings indicate. Public health believes people may not be reporting positive at-home tests or may not be testing at all due to minor symptoms. Public health highly recommends all close contacts and anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, no matter how minor, get tested if they can. Those 16 and 17 years old are eligible to receive the Pfizer booster. The health department’s vaccine clinic at the fairgrounds ended Dec. 17. Public health will be going back to a mobile clinic outreach model. Testing options will also be available at those sites.
