Following the State of Oregon’s and the Oregon Department of Education’s update to the reopening schools metrics, school districts across the state began to wonder what that would mean for them. In the Lincoln County School District (LCSD), it means all students will be back in the classroom within the next month. LCSD Superintendent Dr. Karen Gray announced last week that they plan to take full advantage of the new metrics by getting all grades, K-12, back in school using a staggered start. Because Lincoln County has maintained relatively low COVID-19 case, LCSD are now eligible to return all students under a Hybrid model. In a Hybrid model, students attend school in-person full time for two days per week in half-sized cohorts, either Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday. For now, Wednesdays continue to be not in person for any student. The remaining two days that students are not in person, they will receive instruction online. “When students are called to return to

The Rotary Club of Lincoln City has found a new way to support the wildfire survivors in Lincoln County. It all started when the LC Rotary Club was contacted by their Rotary District about supporting wildfire survivors and helping them get back to work by replacing tools needed for their trade that were lost in the fire. The Rotary assistance program,
“Echo Mtn Fire Relief Re-Tool” grant focuses on individuals who have lost their home, had little to no insurance and are struggling to continue to work effectively due to their loss of tools and equipment needed for their trade. To fund this program, Rotary Club of LC received a $12,500 grant from the Rotary District, donations of $4,150 from their own club, $3,655 from the Rotary Club of Seaside, $4,000 from the OR State Chamber, $1,000 from
NW Natural, $3,500 from a Lincoln County grant, and $3,750 from Mills ACE Hardware, for a total of $32,555. The Rotary Club of LC worked with Lincoln County, LC Chamber of Commerce, and LC Parks and Recreation to distribute the grant applications. As a result, on Nov. 9, 51 wildfire survivors were given a shopping trip to purchase up to $650 of work

The 2020 general election was unlike any other as candidates looked to fill positions that directly impacted decisions made during a historic pandemic, economic crisis and an outcry for social justice. Both nationally and locally in Lincoln County, communities endured a grueling week of watching and waiting as the United States tallied a record number of votes. Nationally, Democrat Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States on Nov. 7. His victory came after more than three days of uncertainty as election officials sorted through a surge of mail-in votes that delayed processing. Biden crossed the winning threshold of 270 Electoral College votes with a win in Pennsylvania, his home state. “With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation,”
