Local businesses challenge public to help fund LCPD K9 Project MAX KIRKENDALL newsguardeditor@countrymedia.net
The Lincoln City Police Department (LCPD) set a goal earlier this year to raise $75,000 for their new K9 program. With $55,000 of that goal raised so far, two local businesses are looking to put that fundraising effort on the fast track, and they’re
hoping the public will do the same. Meredith Lodging and Oksenholt Capital have joined together to donate up to $10,000 for the LCPD K9 Project, but first they’re challenging the community to match that $10,000 mark between now and December 31 to get the project fully funded.
“The entire city benefits from this important program and we want to encourage the community to donate between now and the end of the year,” said Aaron Linfoot, vice president of operations for Meredith Lodging. “Meredith Lodging is committed to investing in the success of the communities where our em-
ployees live and work, and where our Meredith Lodging owners have homes.” LCPD stated that the mission of the K9 Project is to promote a positive relationship between the community and the LCPD through education on the modern day use of the Law Enforcement K9. “The members of the
LCPD are excited about the donation match challenge and we appreciate Meredith Lodging’s and Oksenholt Capital’s support of the K9 fundraising effort,” said Sgt. Jeffery Winn. “We would again like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all the citizens, busiSee K9, Page A3
NLFR and Lincoln County crews join fire-fighting efforts in California MAX KIRKENDALL newsguardeditor@countrymedia.net
Fifteen strike teams, including one team from Lincoln County, comprised of members of the Oregon fire service arrived in California Oct. 27 and have been assigned to assist with separate wildfire incidents threatening structures and property. Following a late afternoon briefing with California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection officials in Redding, Calif., Oregon’s strike teams are being deployed to two separate incidents. One group, comprised of six strike teams, headed
by Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Mariana RuizTemple, of the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), is being sent to the Burris Fire, a 350-acre fire in Mendocino County. As of Monday, five of the teams were working to secure lines and mop up the Burris Fire, and one team was assigned to respond to a new incident called the Twin Fire. The second group, comprised of nine teams, headed by Assistant Chief Les Hallman of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, has been assigned to respond to the larger Kincaid Fire in Sonoma County.
