Body of missing St. Helens woman found in Chiloquin area BY CODY MANN cmann@countrymedia.net
Family members of missing St. Helens woman Cheryl Hart confirmed that Hart’s remains were found this past weekend in Klamath County, Ore. Officials are awaiting medical examiner results to confirm the remains as Hart, but Eugene Police Department held a press conference Sept. 12 and said they expected Hart’s boyfriend, Jeremy Kent Milutin, would be charged with her death. Milutin was charged with felony murder and second-degree felony abuse of a corpse the following day. Eugene Police Detective Jed McGuire said a search party found the body in a very remote, difficult to reach area east of Chiloquin in Klamath County and alerted authorities. McGuire said authorities had some general indications of where to search, and volunteers dialed-in on those areas. “We recovered the remains of a female which we believe to be that of Cheryl Hart,” McGuire said. “The remains were very decomposed... it was a difficult scene for everybody involved.” He added that the medical examiner in Lane County, rather than Klamath County, would perform an autopsy today to determine cause of death and confirm identification. “We believe this was Cheryl and we do believe this occurred in Eugene,” McGuire said. “That’s why we took jurisdiction.” He extended the department’s sympathy to Hart’s three

and Milutin were seen in Walton, Ore. on the morning of Aug. 5. Around noon on Aug. 5, Milutin was again seen alone in a store in Klamath Falls, Ore. At 10 p.m. on Aug. 5, Milutin was back in Eugene and apparently alone. Eugene Police patrol officers saw the vehicle he was driving and determined it was stolen. When contacted by police, Milutin attempted to flee but he was quickly arrested. He is still in custody at the Lane County Jail. Detectives believe Milutin’s most likely route of travel to Klamath Falls was via highways 58 and 97, but alternate routes cannot be ruled out at this time. Detectives believe he is somewhat familiar with this route since he and Hart camped along Highway 97 in late July, but the location(s) of those campsites is unknown. According to Melling-Van DeZande’s Go-Fund-Me page, Hart left her home in the Warren area on July 31 for a road trip with Milutin, saying she would be back in a few days. She contacted her children every day, but the family didn’t hear from her after Aug. 4. McGuire thanked the numerous volunteers who assisted with the search process. He credited Oregon State Police, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sherriff’s Office, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Oakridge Police Department, U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management for taking part in the investigation.

Columbia County businesses Witches, storm troopers and a headless horseman warned of counterfeit cash BY JEREMY C. RUARK jruark@countrymedia.net
Law enforcement agents and the Wauna Credit Union have issued a business alert concerning counterfeit money that has surfaced in Columbia County. According to Clatskanie branch Wauna Credit Union Chief Marketing Officer Debi Smiley, several local business, including retailers and hospitality shops, have received counterfeit $5, $10, and $20 bills. Smiley said the person, or persons, making the bogus bills are using a creative technique in order to pass the bills undetected. “They are making them look like they are used bills,” she said. “They fold them, crease them and tear a corner so that makes it more difficult for businesses operators and their employees to detect.”
Smiley said the counterfeit money still feels and looks like paper. “It doesn’t have that regular currency feel to it,” she said. “You can still see it is paper and it is not perfect. There are discrepancies, such as the bills are lighter in areas compared to real currency.” JEREMY C. coming to St. Helens
BY DON PATTERSON dpatterson@countrymedia.net
It could be both frightening and fantastic on Oct. 1 when the first ever Spirit of Halloweentown parade takes place in St. Helens. The South Columbia County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event as a kickoff to a month-long Halloweentown celebration. Several extraordinary groups have signed up to participate,
including Star Wars Oregon, the Unipiper, Niles Zombie Control and Bennie and his taxi from the Halloweentown movie. The headless horseman from Sleepy Hollow will make a frightening appearance as will the float Witches Ride. Rocky Smith from NW Ghost Tours leads the parade as Grand Marshal. Smith began paranormal investigations in 1995 and has identified haunted places
