Daines skyped with Rost’s class On March 10, Senator Daines skyped with the 2020 Montana Teacher of the Year Linda Rost’s students at Baker High School! In a very special opportunity, several groups of students from Linda’s class presented a problem they saw in their community or state, developed a strategy to solve that problem and then asked Senator Daines for his input and help as well! Some of the topics discussed were:
TODAY’S FORECAST High: 36 Low: 21
1. Access to recycling in rural areas 2. Bullying in schools 3. Access to mental health services in rural regions 4. Concerns about the COVID-19 Senator Daines also shared his experiences on the hill as well as some stories of his Montana roots with Linda’s students.

The Eastern Montana Community Mental Health Center is looking for some help. The annual Drug and Alcohol Facts Week is approaching and the agency is looking for some help from Fallon County residents to highlight visually some of the impact drugs have on lives in the Treasure State. “It is March 30 to April 5. It is just this week where we want to get everybody involved in the community,” Taylee Tolzien said Thursday. “We want to bring awareness to the facts of what drugs actually do to your body. “We want to do a coloring

contest for the younger students and a poster contest for the older ones,” she said. “I want people in Fallon County who have either grown or learned through experience what drugs can go. We want to open it up to anybody and they can pretty much express themselves.” According to Tolzien who specializes in prevention in Fallon County for the mental health center based in Miles City, the younger group would be up to seven, then to 13 years old, while the older groups would cover from 13 to 18 and there would be an over 18 group. “We want to bring a full awareness to what this week is
about and the facts of it,” she added. One thing she is planning is for local businesses to display some of the art work in Baker and Fallon County. “It is supposed to be motivational. They can have graphics showing the reality of the drugs, the motivational side of drugs and to keep it positive,” she said, noting that there may be monetary or other awards for some of the entries. The coloring contest is slated to start March 13 and run for approximately a month, she said. People looking for more information about the contest should call 406-234-0234.
Service Animals By Richard A. Menger, MS, REHS, Fallon County Environmental Health
My office has had some recent dealings again with service animals. According to ADA and Montana FCS any business or myself may ask the following questions: 1. Is this Service Animal for a disability? and/or 2. What tasks have the Service Animal been trained to perform? I have supreme respect for our veterans always, but they must follow the rules as well as any other citizen. Dogs will not be allowed in local establishments unless they are truly Service Animals and have been trained to perform a necessary function supporting a disability. Even then, they cannot cause a public health hazard. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals.
