Local 4-H gets dollar for dollar match reward By Brad Mosher, Country Media
The 4-H program in Fallon County got a little boost Tuesday when the Farmers Union Oil Company presented the 4-H program with $1,942 as part of a dollar for dollar matching program. According to Cenex general manager Tonya England, the presentation is part of a dollar for dollar matching program started nearly a decade ago by CoBank and enabled England to purchase several animals at the Fallon County Fair. “We purchased two lambs and a pig,” England recalled. “We do business with a company called CoBank and they have a program which is called Sharing Success. tion to get approved through them. During the fair, we purchased a few animals for the 4-H and I submitted an application,” England explained. “They approved it, so I have a check for $1,942 to present to the 4-H Council,” she said before meeting the group Tuesday. The program was started this year with the Farmers Union Oil Company, England explained. “It was passed on to me from our banker and he was trying to help other people by doing a community thing. “I thought, ‘Why not’,” she recalled. “Why not help our community if we could do a dollar for dollar match. All they could tell me is no,” England said. Instead, it was approved. “It was my first year of doing it. and doing some bidding. It was very interesting. It was kind of fun actually,” she added. She said it was also fun watching the kids show off their animals. “I am originally from the city, not a rural area. But, I like to watch the kids. It brought satisfaction to me that we are helping kids pursuing their dreams and what they are trying to do.” According to England, Farmers Union goes to the Fallon County Fair animal sale every year. “Our board is very good about supporting the 4-H at the fairgrounds,” she added. England said she plans to continue next year, with plans to submit an application sometime during the CoBank’s window from April 1
