Community helping the community Free Thanksgiving Dinner set for Sunday

BY BRYAN GALLEGOS Dunn County Herald

The community is coming together for the community. Several local organizations are working together to provide the Dunn County Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday

at the High Plains Cultural Center. It’s free. And it’s open to everybody. Everybody. You hungry? Come on down. Got a big household? Doesn’t

matter, come on down. Want to enjoy some fellowship and meet your neighbors and fellow Dunn County residents? Come on down. The dinner will be served from

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will include ham, potatoes, a variety of salads, rolls and desserts. “The point of it is to bring all the folks together,” said the Rev. Dorothy R. Williams, one of the

organizers of the event, adding that it’s a way to forge togetherness in a splintered time. Williams, the pastor for Dunn County Lutheran Parish, said there are lots of little pockets in the community and they hope See DINNER

DUNN COUNTY HERALD On a day when veterans are honored for their past service, Greg Benz praised the future. Benz, the commander of the American Legion Post 46, was among safety professionals from the fire and police departments, the ambulance service and American Legion who met with students from Killdeer School on Nov. 10. And then later, he and members of the Post 46 Auxiliary met with fifthand sixth-grade students to talk about the Dunn County Veterans Memorial at the High Plains Cultural Center and the significance it played in the area. They also demonstrated to the students the proper procedure to fold a flag. The common theme? The youth of today and how they can learn from the past. He echoed that sentiment at a “moment-ofsilence” ceremony at the legion hall on Veterans Day. Roughly 30 veterans attended the meeting to honor those who have served or are currently serving in the military. “The youth are why we’re here,” Benz said, adding that they are one of the reasons we do what they do. “We’re trying to keep our great country the way it is.” See KIDS
