DUNN COUNTY HERALD
life after beating breast cancer By Bryan Gallegos For the DC Herald
Editor’s Note: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Dunn County Herald will be doing profiles on breast cancer survivors this month. Jackie Sinclair sat on a couch next to her husband, Pat, and enjoyed the lazy afternoon in their Killdeer home. At the foot of the couch was her sassy cat who thinks he's the king of the world. They didn't talk much, but you could sense an incredible togetherness between man and wife. They were a Norman Rockwell picture of love and family. The cat even had a feline-like grin. The day was chilly, with Mother Nature threatening to dump some moisture in the area. But Sinclair doesn't see the gloom.

Killdeer street projects nearing completion By Bryan Gallegos Dunn County Herald
Deb Peters has not been able to park in her drive way at her house on Second Avenue for the past couple of months. The street in front of her house has been torn up since July and becomes a muddy mess after a rain storm.
All this because of a road construction that is part of a $3.2 million project that includes seven different jobs around the city of Killdeer. “It has been a big inconvenience,” said Peters. “I’ll be glad when they are done.” That should be in the
next three weeks said Steve Dorval, an engineer for the City of Killdeer who is overseeing the massive project. “We’ve had some rain, and there’s more in the forecast, and that’s slowing us down. But we should be done by the end of October,” Dorval said.
Crews have been removing old water and sewer lines that were made of clay tile and copper and replacing them with high durable plastic lines, Dorval said. They have also been setting curb and gutters and some sidewalks and rebuilding the roads with road base and new
asphalt. “We probably won’t have to deal with those lines for 70 to 75 years,” Dorval said. The work this summer is part of a project that officials began planning in 2008 and started conSee STREET

The North Dakota 9-11 Association and local governments throughout the state announced that as of Oct. 6, 2016, texting to 9-1-1 is now available statewide. Customers of any of the six cellular carriers operating in North Dakota (AT&T, Sagebrush, Sprint, SRT, T-Mobile and Verizon) can now send a text to 9-1-1 in an emergency, and that message will be routed to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for response. Text to 9-1-1 should only be used in an emergency situation, when placing a call is not possible. For example, if the person needing emergency help is deaf, hard of hearing, or when speaking out loud would put the individual in danger. “There are real situations where speaking out loud to a dispatcher could put an individual in more danger like if an intruder is in your home or if an individual is in a domestic violence situation. However, calling 9-1-1 is still the best and fastest way to get emergency help. We are reminding North Dakotan’s to ‘Call if you can, Text if you can’t,’” said Brent Nelson, president of ND 911 Association. “For the deaf and hard of hearing communities, this See 9-1-1
