Fair board looks to feed the wild side By Brad Mosher The Herald The Dunn County Fair Board will be hosting a Wild Game Feed Nov. 30 in the High Plains Community Center, starting at 4 p.m., in Killdeer. On the menu for the inaugural event will be deer, elk, moose, buffalo, pheasant, turkey, duck, venison, fish, pork frog legs and alligator, according to Florine Lazorenko, the president of the fair board. The evening will start with a social at 4 p.m. and followed by the meal. Tickets will be available from fair board members, at the community center, the Pipe and also at the American Bank Center and First International Bank. The price will be $15 for advanced tickets, $20 at the door, $10 for children from six to 12 years old. Children under six will be free. In addition to the social and the meal, there will also be a silent auction, Bingo and games for kids, according to organizers. “It is the first one for us,” Lazorenko said. “We’ll also have moose, caribou, yak, turtle soup, turkeys, pheasant and rocky mountain oysters from South Dakota. There will be buffalo burgers, smoked fish, bear and salmon corn chowder,” she added. “So far, that is what we have got now, but there will be more.” The fish will be coming from as far away as Alaska, she added. “These people go to Alaska every year.” The community center will have the golf simulator available for the children to play during the feed, Lazorenko added. In addition, a couple of ladies will head up a Pinochle tournament and there will also be a Christmas Tree decoration contest. “First place (in the contest) will be $100, second place will be $75 and third place will be $50,” Lazorenko explained. “It will be People’s Choice with the people deciding the winners. The decorating must be completed by noon on Nov. 30, but the trees will remain at the center through Christmas,” she explained. “It is just going to be a fun thing.” There will be a doll dressing contest. “Anybody that comes and gets a doll here will be paid $25 by the fair board. Then we will put them up for auction,” Lazorenko said. The auction will be following

There is something about small towns, Dunn County Sheriff Gary Kuhn told members of the Halliday community Nov.7 when he spoke at the community dinner. He was visiting the community to talk about a rise in local crime.
The biggest thing he stressed to the dozens of people who show up was being watchful and vigilant when it came to Halliday. “That is one nice thing about a small town... everybody knows,” he said with a chuckle. “And everybody knows to call
