HETTINGER CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF WAKING UP KRIS KRINGLE
The Friday after Thanksgiving is always marked on the calendars, that’s the day Santa wakes up and the community celebrates. And it all began with just four floats. Started in 1985 with minimal participation, the event caught fire. Now, the celebration has turned into an event that community members from all over the region anxiously await. This year’s celebration featured 17 floats from different area businesses, along with some fire trucks from the Hettinger Volunteer Fire Department. passed each group of onlookers. Following the parade celebration, the kids followed Santa to the Hettinger fire hall, where they made their Christmas requests. Each child was given a bag of candy, and the chance to sit on old St. Nick’s lap. Parents and adults were treated to warm cider and hot chocolate. The line to see Santa quickly outgrew the building, and some people eagerly waiting had to stand outside as it stretched a short distance down the block. Kathleen Brackel, of KB Jewelers, was part of the beginning stages of the annual festival,
