Nelson says he will continue to help with their radio broadcasts

Pastor Ron Nelson spent his life spreading the gospel in Cameroon. And on Oct. 31, he will make his 13th trip back to the west African country, since retirement, as he continues to assist the efforts. Nelson originally left the United States and spent a year learning french in France in 1959. From there he went to Africa where he worked among the tribe called Dowayo before helping set up a radio station and recording studio in 1965. “We decided the best way to reach Muslim people was through radio broadcast, because a preacher can’t go around into the Muslim villages,” Nelson said. Initially, Nelson and his group set up the recording studio and would record messages to be sent out for broadcast. Radio Sawtu Linjiila started with a single, powerful, transmitter located in Ethiopia. Now they broadcast with 20 transmitters The broadcast in the Fulani language. With roughly 17 million, the Fulani make up a large population, which is why it was decided to broadcast in their language. Nelson said that an estimated 1.5 million are reached by their efforts.

This trip will last three weeks and he will help with the radio station and then spend a week with a Christian Village of the group Fulani.

Nelson has continued to help people in Cameroon while he lives in Hettinger. Throughout the past year he has helped raised enough money to allow Paula Ja’e to purchase a vehicle. Donations have come from a wide range of community members in the Hettinger area.

home businesses, and Jill Anderson, who works for KNDC and helped with the planning and organization of the event, said that it is a typical number compared to past years. Melissa Stafford, who has attended the event the past two years to support her direct marketing, home-based business, said that it’s all about exposure when attending these events. “More people can come and see what you do, some people don’t know that you do direct sales, and they might not know you’re in the area,” she said. “So you kind of get your name out a little better.” Stafford said she talked to more people this year than last, and though she may not have done business with everyone she talked to, she still made contacts. Cindy Ham, who has been attending the event since before it was primarily hosted by KNDC, said that getting to talk to other businesses is nice, because sometimes you don’t always know what’s going on with other companies, and their very accessible at the farm and home show. “We all get to gather and see what everyone does. Not always do I get to run around
