Military chaplains have served the spiritual needs of soldiers in the U.S. Army
since the Continental Congress in 1775. Monsignor Chad Gion, pastor of Spirit of Life Church in Mandan, joined these ranks in 2013. Soon, he will be among his fellow soldiers in active duty on Dec. 1 when
he is deployed to Kosovo for four and a half months. The U.S. is 1 of 31 countries under NATO with a peace-support operation there since June 1999. “I volunteered to go to Kosovo to get experience in a circumstance where there are no bullets in the air,” Gion said. The goal, according to him, is to be prepared in the event he ever gets deployed with
