The Holsteins were probably the biggest team the Night Hawks have faced this year, and they pretty much halted the Night Hawks strong running game in the first half. But substitute HettingerScranton quarterback Hudson Pierce had a nice game in the passing de-

partment. Pierce had a touchdown pass called back due to a penalty, but on the very next play he found Isaiah Kludt for a 50-yard pass to give the Night Hawks a temporary lead of 6-0. The Holsteins scored the next two touchdowns to take a 14-6 lead at the end of the first half. Both NSGU touchdowns came

with the help of Hettinger/Scranton. Pierce was intercepted and the Holsteins scored on that possession. On the Night Hawks next possession they ended up having to kick out of their own end zones due to penalties, and NSGU returned it to the 1-yard line and scored on the very next play. The second half be-

longed to the Night Hawks as their defense stiffened and kept the Holsteins out of pay dirt. Tanner Sanford quickly tied the score at the start of the second half on a 65-yard touchdown run, and the 2-point conversion was successful. Hettinger-Scranton scored twice in the fourth

Ehlers had the event won after that, and she took home her first saddle award. “That secured it for me, nobody could catch me,” Ehlers said. Between June 20 and September 25 there were 23 rodeo events and then the finals. Ehlers said on any given event there were 25-50 girls competing, but for the finals they only invited the top 12 competitors. Ehlers has been competing in rodeos since the early age of five. Now, at 24, the breakaway roping event is one of her favorites, in part because of the difficulty level. “This (breakaway roping) has just always been my favorite,” Ehlers said. “It hasn’t all been easy, but the more you
