The Adams County Community Foundation is in its infancy, but it got a jump start recently thanks to a generous donation from ALLETE Clean Energy. ALLETE Clean Energy is a subsidiary of ALLETE Inc., and has been constructing the Thunder Spirit Wind Project north of Hettinger for the better part of the past eight months.

On Wednesday, Dec. 30, Chris Aepelbacher presented a check for $10,000 in support of the community foundation. Aepelbacher is the Assistance Site Manager for the Thunder Spirit Wind Project. Accepting the check was Jim Goplin, who was instrumental in organizing Adams County’s foundation. Goplin is also the Executive Director of the Adams County Development Corporation. The North Dakota Community Foundation is an avenue in which organizations or individuals can leave endowments to

their communities. Currently, 60 other communities in North Dakota participate in this organization and they include, among others, Bowman and Slope Counties, New Salem, McKenzie County, Casselton, Minot, Killdeer, Mott-Regent, New England, Bismarck-Mandan, and Ellendale. Donated funds are earmarked for the community, and the money is invested and grows for future use, and Goplin appreciates the dona-

Traveling trophy dedicated to passionate livestock judge By Cole Benz

Record Editor cbenz@countrymedia.net Friends and family describe Nick Germann as caring, passionate and dedicated. Nick tragically passed away this fall, leaving a void with many he touched throughout his life. Though he may be gone, those who knew him best wanted to make sure that his legacy is never forgotten. Germann showed an adept ability in the field of Live-

stock Judging through the 4-H organization, so what better way to remember him than by dedicating a top award in his honor? Recently, the Adams/Slope Livestock Judging Team sponsored the Badlands Livestock Judging competition’s first place senior team award in Nick’s name. Family of Nick’s and friends through the 4-H organization gathered Sunday, Jan. 3 at the Hettinger Research Extension Center

Owning and operating Safe Ride as of mid-December, Charlotte Brown purchased the company from the LaFebres, and said the timing was just right. Most recently employed at the nursing home in Hettinger, Brown was looking for another opportunity, and when she found out Safe Ride was available, she knew it would be a good fit. “It just happneed, it all worked out,” Brown said. Brown believes in the cause. She knows that a taxi service, primarily one that operates in the evening, is pertinent to a community large or small. “I think that it’s a service that is needed, and it does prevent a lot of things that could happen,” Brown said. This things Brown is referring to is dangerous driving, the very same thing the LaFebres wanted to prevent by start-
