Industry Adjusts To Not-So-Normal

Eighteen days ago, Country Aircheck had never published a story containing the word “coronavirus.” Twelve days ago, the cascade of concert and event cancellations and postponements began. Today, the country community exists in a world and marketplace few could have imagined. Captains of industry – and the Country format – were asked their thoughts and approaches during this unprecedented crisis. “As it was a week ago, the message remains the same: Practice social distancing, stay home or somewhere remote – be smart and safe,” says Sony/Nashville Chairman & CEO Randy Goodman. Randy In addition to applying corporate resources, Goodman Sony has connected with Vanderbilt Health for local information and access. “I have personally communicated to our team all pertinent numbers, websites, etc.,” Goodman says. “It’s important as well for leaders to be honest but hopeful ... empathetic. We are open for business, and we need to focus on that while still being sensitive to challenging times we are all experiencing.” When every person is affected, the impact Ben Vaughn can be as varied as people are diverse. “Everyone has a different personal reality in handling this,” says Warner Chappell CEO Ben Vaughn. “We want to be sensitive to each person’s situation and let them know: don’t be afraid to speak up if you need something.” From a business standpoint, the touring industry has been hardest hit. “I’m moving everything to July and beyond,” says Clarence Spalding Maverick’s Clarence Spalding, who manages Jason Aldean, Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts and Reba, among others.
