In 1988 The New York Times called “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding “One of the most successful and imaginative hits in off Broadway History” Now, more than 35 years later, the show has clearly lived up to the incredible accolades it has received along the way. Having played 20+ consecutive years in several large cities, and over 200 limited engagements in Performing Arts Centers throughout the United States. In addition to the show playing throughout North America, it has also played in several international markets in Europe, South America, Australia and the Far East.
Billed as “The Granddaddy of Interactive Theater” by People magazine, Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding was doing “immersive” decades before it became mainstream, using the tagline quoted by The NY Daily News that “At Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding, you’re more than a member of the audience, you’re a friend of the family”. Created by a New York City based theater group, Artificial Intelligence, and originally produced in NYC and elsewhere by Corcoran Productions, Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding was a collaboration by Hofstra University theater department graduates who attended Hofstra from 1978-1982. The concept was so simple, and so familiar to audiences, that in many ways it was a bridge between the traditional theatre goer, and the non-traditional theatre goer.
In addition to its long history of playing long and short term engagements in traditional theaters, the show has expanded its reach to include private and corporate events, charities and casino’s. All under the direction, and coordinated by former New York City cast member Tony Lauria, and his talented team of masters of improvisation.
