little and often – once a week at this fast growing time.

If we run into a dry spell, raise the cutter head to let the grass stand taller but still keep it looking neat. Hopefully, flowering plants are growing vigorously and it’s a good idea to get supports in position early on. The leaves will mask some of these supports in the next few weeks but without them our most magnificent blooms can fall flat on their faces!

Thetford Garden and Allotment Club June is a glorious month for gardeners. Everything is bright and growing vigorously. Strawberries and salad crops are there to be enjoyed and there is all the promise of the summer. In addition, we can all enjoy the TGAC Summer Show AND the many pleasures of Open Gardens Day.

As I think about what I should be doing this month, I have to say how full of admiration I am for the people who open their gardens for our delight. This year Sunday June 14th is the day to keep free for hours of pleasure. If you have not seen what goes on, this is a revelation – such extraordinary achievements all round our town with lovely plants and clever design.

Not only that but you will find half the town on the move from house to house, refreshments with chairs in the shade and good company and the satisfaction of supporting our local Hospice. Gardening is one thing, getting everything synchronised to look good on a given day is something else! Thank you all those contributing!

The Summer Show is on Saturday 6th July at the Church on the Way. The best time to visit is between 1.30 and 2.30 and you will be bowled over by the scent from sweet peas and roses that are the backbone of the display. There will also be a class for hanging baskets and these never fail to amaze me. Other classes include pinks, flower arrangements, strawberries, treacle tarts and Scarecrow heads. If you would like to enter as a non-member the full schedule can be obtained from Leaping Hare.

And finally, we have a quiz night at our regular meeting on Thursday 25th June at the URC. This should be good fun and all are welcome as usual. Sue Pilgrim

Meanwhile on the allotment, keep up the hoeing. This saves all the work involved in removing established weeds and crumbles the surface of the ground so that rain will sink in rather than run off. If your leeks are ready to plant out – ideally a pencil thick and about eight inches tall – it makes life easier if you trim the roots to about 2 centimetres. The plants go into the hole you have prepared more easily and don’t seem to be held back. If you need to water any plants, remember that a good but infrequent drenching will encourage the roots down; if you lightly water any area the moisture does not penetrate far and the plant roots will stay shallow. A decent lawn in the Brecks seems a dream but you will get the best out of your grass if you mow it

THETFORD OPEN GARDENS Gardens across Thetford will soon be open to the public in aid of charity as the Thetford Open Gardens gets underway on Sunday 14th June. This year will see 27 gardens and a church open for the day. Last year’s event attracted hundreds of visitors and raised more than £6,700 for St Nicholas Hospice Care, which will also benefit from the 2015 day.

Rachel Woods, who organises the event with Sue Norman, Brian and Jennifer Farrell, said the opening gardens were varied and beautiful, with one gardener being a sculptor and artist who had painted a picture for the programme cover and donated a framed print for auction. “This year, we hope to raise more than £7,000 for the Hospice,” said Rachel. “We have 10 new gardens on board, so there will be new discoveries to make and old favourites to revisit, with plenty of refreshments along the way.”

Miranda McCoy, St Nicholas Hospice Care Community Fundraiser, said: “Thetford Open Gardens is a treat in the open gardens season. From the small yet fully packed treasures to the big luxuriant gardens, there is something for everyone”.

Admission is by programme - £5 per person (children free) – available from Hospice shops, Thetford Garden Centre and Thetford’s Great Information Centre. A fundraising raffle and auction will also be held. Gardens will be open from 11am-5pm. This year, a new fundraising event is being held on 24 June. Thetford Open Gardens Extra is a ticketed tour of the Gorse Industrial Estate meadows and nuclear site, led by Keith Eldred. Tickets for this event are only available from Thetford’s Great Information Centre.

The countdown to this year’s Thetford’s Great Festival, which runs from Friday 21st August to Sunday 6th September has begun.

As always the Festival is packed with things to see and do for all ages. We have some firm Festival Favourites with RSPB and BTO putting on some great events to keep us in touch with our local wildlife; the WI Bake Off is back and a chance for you to enter this fabulous baking competition. Once we have eaten all the cakes, it might be an idea to join in the Ramblers’ walks - a packed friendly programme forms part of this year’s Festival and a great chance to explore your surroundings in a fun way. We also have a number of Festival firsts this year and one of these is a European Premiere no less. The exclusive first showing of the new Thomas Paine film, a real treat at just £4.50 per ticket. There will also be a Thetford Variety Performance evening, Thetford Sings Gospel and a Concert of Film Songs. This year also sees the welcome addition of Elveden’s Big Onion Festival and the Monksgate Yardsale and RAGS run their community fun day, raising funds for their play area. Following last year’s successful play about local convict Henry Kable, Fine Time Theatre return with a new play based on the bicentenary of Waterloo,

incorporating local history. If creating is more your thing, the new watercolour challenge could well be for you, taking place at various Thetford locations and followed by a week long exhibition of your work. Music Arts Project (MAP) will also be running a range of music workshops for young people and of course much more.

Our community hero for June is Liz Hodgson.

Community Hero explained

Liz started Thetford Open Gardens 9 years ago. She was relativelynew to Thetford back then and had the thought of pulling it together for the community. She started by knocking on doors asking people to open their gardens and she nurtured its growth over the succeeding 8 years. St Nicholas Hospice Care is a charity dear to her and she is pleased Thetford Open Gardens continues to raise more money every year to help the people of Thetford who need support with life threatening diseases. Liz is also pleased that such a wide variety of gardeners across the community tend their garden spaces with such loving care and welcome friends and strangers alike to share their blossoming spaces. This has led to new friendships within Thetford and also led to people outside Thetford learning more about our town and appreciating its often hidden beauty.

Those of us that live in Thetford know that we have a very vibrant community and we have many local residents that go that extra distance to support community life in the town. That’s why we feature a different ‘community hero’ each month to recognise those people that so often go unrecognised for their efforts. Musical Animal Magic

On Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th August, Thetford Voices will be running its eighth holiday singing workshop programme for children and young people, with sessions for three different age-groups.

This year we will be showcasing ‘A Menagerie of Songs’, drawing on the many great numbers inspired by birds and animals. Foxes, cats, tortoises, crabs, lions, owls, even the occasional gnu may put in an appearance as we choose songs to suit the varying ages, voices and levels of experience of workshop members. There will be film and show tunes, play songs from the Caribbean, rounds, folk song and ballads. Whether you like singing in harmony or joining in choruses, there will be something for you.

The main course for 6-16 year olds, led once again by popular leaders Chris Wray and Sarah Skinner, runs from 9.30 - 3.45 on Tuesday and 1.30 - 8.00 on the Wednesday when we finish, at 7.15, with a performance for friends and relations. We also have an hour’s session of songs and movement with Sarah for Toddlers aged 3-5, at 10.00 on Tuesday 11th, and a harmony session for older children and students (15+), again on Tuesday from 4.15 to 5.45. As in the past, the course is based at Thetford Grammar School but the performance will be in St Peter’s Church, White Hart Street, now refurbished as an Arts venue. With the generous help of our sponsors, Thetford Grammar School, the Shadwell Estate and the D’Oyly Carte Trust, we are able to keep course fees low. They are just £8 for the two-day Main Course, £2 for Toddlers and £3 for the harmony session.

THETFORD PAST AND PRESENT

Since the past photograph was taken about 1910 this part of the town, like many others, has seen numerous changes not least of all a new post office that opened adjacent to the Victorian one in 1939. It is interesting to note the intrusion of so much street furniture that clutters our streets compared with a century ago.

I was a child in the 1960s (my family still live in the same house in which I was born) and clearly remember all the shops mentioned in previous articles and others also.

I remember a fabric shop on Riverside Walk, and although all towns had such shops then, they are now a rarity everywhere. I remember when my mother would bring me in the shop with her; that divine smell of new fabric and my eyes would burn ‘due to the dyes’ (I was told). I remember when the river burst its banks and there was flooding up to the seats on Riverside walk.

I also remember Clarkes newsagents; and not only Martins sold records but there was a record shop nearby or it may have been where Breckland Gallery was (which I loved also!). And even Currys sold records for a while.

Adderleys was a mainstay of course; I remember having a Saturday job there washing up in the cafe part. And also working at the age of 16 in ‘Shoe Craft’. I’m sure many remember the old (cinema) ‘pictures’, called `The Palace` now a bingo hall. How we were enthralled with the colour as of course everyone had black and white tv’s in the 60s.

My old school Norwich Road primary still stands and from the outside looks exactly just as I remember. I would give anything to walk around it again to bring back memories. I moved away in the mid 1980’s to London and now live in Hertfordshire but as a small part of my family still live in Thetford I have come back often - I just can’t keep away! I am now in my mid fifties and and will be retiring in the next few years and am seriously considering settling down to spend my autumn years back in the town that I was born and grew up in.

There are many other memories that I could bore you with and I feel a bit saddened that there are so many different cultures and change now in Thetford but of course nothing stands still and it is probably just because I don’t live here now that I regret the changes from my youth. Despite all the change, I still love my home town.

Ride for Life launched to support nook appeal and Quidenham hospice East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) largest and longest-running fundraising event ‘Ride For Life’ returns for the 22nd time this summer.

This year it’ll be in a new location, with new routes and in aid of both the £10 million nook appeal to build a new children’s hospice for Norfolk and the charity’s existing hospice in Quidenham. Cyclists and walkers are being encouraged to dust off their saddles and clean up their walking boots for the event which takes place on Sunday 14th June.

Mayday in Thetford Forest is the new venue, having been previously hosted in Santon Downham, and participants can take part in 3, 6 or 12 mile forest walks, 5,10 or 25 mile off-road cycle rides and 16 or 38 mile on-road cycle rides. The 5 mile off-road cycle ride and the 12 mile walk will raise funds for the nook appeal, while funds raised from the other events will support the charity’s Quidenham hospice and current services in Norfolk. There will be stalls, activities, live music and well-earned refreshments available; making it a great day out for all.

News from Thetford Probus County’s crucial role in aviation Aviation in Norfolk goes back far longer than you’d guess and certainly more than a century before the first propeller plane took to the air. In fact, it was in 1780s that a strange looking hot air balloon made the first brief flight over Norwich.

This was just one of the key events which Stephen Pope spoke about in his ‘History of Aviation in Norfolk’ talk to Thetford Probus members at the club’s May meeting. A former Radar Technician based at RAF Swanton Morley, Mr Pope explained how the county had played a crucial role in aviation. In World War I it found itself a frontline target of the enemy’s Zeppelins as they flew in from the North Sea and roamed virtually unchallenged, causing havoc by bombing both coastal and other towns inland.

This didn’t stop Norfolk-based companies such as Bolton & Paul and Mann Egerton turning out Sopwith Camel fighters and other early aircraft by the thousand.

British airships also had a county connection as there was a base at Pulham. Interestingly, one of the huge sheds that housed the craft, including the ill-fated R101, is still standing but not in Norfolk. After the war it was dismantled then reassembled to dominate the skyline at Cardington near Bedford.

It was also Bolton & Paul who built the metal frame for the R101 and after it crashed an inquiry concluded that the structure had not in any way been responsible for the disaster. Speaking about the county’s role in Second World War, Mr Pope pointed out that it was East Anglia’s geographical position as the closest part of Britain to Germany and other enemy occupied

countries that made it the shortest route for bombing raids. Even so, when big raids took place, hundreds of aircraft had to assemble into formation in the skies above the county and this could take up to two hours before they had even left our shores. Between the RAF Bomber Command and USAAF 8th Airforce there were dozens of different aircraft based in Norfolk, including the iconic Lancasters and B17 Flying Fortresses.

Norfolk also had its share of icons of the screen.

Hollywood star James Stewart, later to hold the rank of Brigadier General, flew from airfields in the county as did actor Walter Matthau.

Postwar years have witnessed the disappearance of most of the wartime airfields although some of those with concrete runways found a rather surprising use; they were ready-made foundations for poultry houses that heralded chicken and turkey farming on an industrial scale. Norfolk’s aviation connections have continued in many ways, not least at Marham which is one of the largest RAF airfields in the country and Page the 1 Brecklock.qxl:Brecklocks 24/02/2014 12:40 largest Tornado airbase in Britain.

Thetford Inner Wheel We held a very interesting meeting at Wereham House last month.

After a report on the Association Conference at Bournemouth when Prue Leith and Ann Widdecombe were among the speakers, we had a talk about tea. Chris Rooke from Mundford brought many items to demonstrate the history of what was our favourite, and at one point very expensive, beverage. Travelling through the various countries where tea is grown from Sri Lanka to China and even Scotland we were thoroughly entertained. The correct way to make tea was discussed and also the various shapes of tea bags. Ironically after our meal we all drank coffee.

The May meeting of the Thetford Society began with tributes to Trevor Burlingham and Ray Key, two members who had recently died. The acting Chairman, Stuart Wilson, welcomed Barbara Miller who spoke on the contribution to Norwich life of three influential Victorians: Samuel Bignold, Jacob Tillett and William Clabburn. What linked these worthy gentlemen was that they had been painted by the artist Frederick Sands and Barbara illustrated her talk with some of his paintings, as well as pictures of places in Victorian Norwich associated with her subjects.

The next meeting is on June 2nd at 7.30pm at the URC when Karen-Emma White will talk about Thetford Pulpware. New members always welcome.

This month over 70 members and guests celebrated The Rotary Club of Thetford’s 60th Charter Night at The Riverside Hotel, Mildenhall.

Pricipal guests were District Governor elect Dorothy PulsfordHarris and the President of Thetford Inner Wheel, Pat Fuller. President Nick Manderfield responded to Dorothy’s generous praise of the Clubs activities and called on members to toast the guests. He then presented John Connolly with a Paul Harris Fellowship, awarded for long and effective service to the Rotary Movement, which, in John’s case, include a relief convoy to Romanian orphanages in the 1990’s and fellowship trips to New Zealand in 2000 and Australia in 2005.

Before the meeting the President Pat Fuller with Rotary President Nick Manderfield presented a representative from the Charity ‘Walking with the Wounded ‘with a cheque for over £2100, the proceeds from out joint supper evening at Barnham. We also decided to send a donation to ShelterBox to help following the Nepalese earthquake disaster.

Walking with the Wounded On Friday, 24th April, Thetford Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs held a Supper Evening at Barnham Village Hall.

We were entertained before and during the meal by a saxophone quartet from RAF Honington.

Thetford (Breckland) Lionesses Members welcomed Lin MIddleweek for an evening of craft and cakes. Lin provided a display of her individual design origin of the stones in her jewellery, there was an opportunity to sample the tempting homemade cakes that the members had supplied together with a cup of tea. Birthday wishes and a plant was presented to a member who had celebrated a special birthday by Lioness President Dorothy. Following the meal (provided by members of Inner Wheel) Sergeant Duncan Slater (RAF Regiment) spoke, with robust good humour, about his involvement with the charity Walking with the Wounded. He began by describing his 2009 wounding in Afghanistan, the long convalescence in specialist Birmingham hospitals (he is a double leg amputee), and then told us about the Trek to the South Pole. This was filmed, included the participation of Prince Harry, and has been shown on TV. Duncan was inspirational, and made us all aware of just how high a price many of our service personnel pay in our defence. We were very pleased to raise £2,100 to support the ongoing work of this charity, which aims to reintegrate our wounded back into society. We have much to learn from Duncan about overcoming adversity!

Czech aircrew exhibition at Wretham a great success

The event was produced within the Czech Republic by Master of History Filip Prochazka, a member of one of the biggest military history organisations in Eastern Europe. It came to Wretham at the start of a tour which will see the 18 panels of words and pictures, in both Czech and English, travel to the Czech Embassy in London, Catterick in Yorkshire, Tain in Scotland, Manston in Kent and Exeter before returning for more displays in Prague and other towns in the Czech Republic. During the time it was on display at Wretham, a request came from the Netherlands, where a historical group wanted to have it travel there for display. Visitors to St Ethelbert often came in clutching piles of photographs and memorabilia which there were keen to share with the organisers.

People have come to Wretham from all over East Anglia, many of them descendants of the men who flew Wellington bombers from Wretham. One of them, Steven Liska, travelled from North Wales with his wife and sister. His father, a wireless operator, met his mother in the Samson and Hercules ballroom in Norwich. Her family ran the White Horse, in Northgate Street, Great Yarmouth.

The generosity of those who visited and appreciated the exhibition saw sale of refreshment and especially donations produce £625 after all expenses, to be divided between the Czech history group and the church.

Zaks Thetford Diner officially open following Stars and Stripes launch party Thetford foodies can finally enjoy the true taste of America on their doorstep following the official opening of the new Zaks Thetford Diner, in Castle Street.

The restaurant – Zaks first new location in a decade – is now fully up and running after an action-packed launch event on Wednesday (May 13).

Guests of honour at the invite-only bash included The Norfolk Brawds Roller Derby team, The Angel Baton Twirlers and Thetford resident Amy Messenger and her family – winners of recent Zaks Facebook competition, Pose Like a Popstar.

Amy, 35, her fiancé Ziggy Freezer, 41, and son Justin, 5, bagged free food at Zaks Thetford Diner for a year after posting a picture of themselves posing like rock band Kiss. Another VIP attendee was Thetford resident Zak Lynn, 12, who wrote to Zaks to say how excited he was that a restaurant with his name would be opening in his home town. Thetford Town Councillors for Castle Ward, Stuart Wright, John Moorman, John Newton and Roy Brame also attended, along with Breckland Council leader Michael Wassell.

Zaks also serves its famous burgers and an extensive choice of authentic American food at three family-friendly restaurants in Norwich: Zaks Waterside Grill and Bar, Zaks Mousehold Diner and Zaks Poringland Diner.

The new restaurant, which is situated on the site of the former Bridge pub, has created 40 jobs – 17 full-time and 23 part-time. Zaks is owned by Blue Sky Leisure, which also runs Kelling Heath and Woodhill Holiday Parks, in North Norfolk.

The restaurant had been open for bookings leading up to the launch party, but Liam Warren, restaurant manager at Zaks Thetford Diner, is glad to now be fully up and running.

Make waves to support national campaign!

Pupils at Edmund de Moundeford V.C. Primary School, Feltwell are making waves by learning how to stay safe near water as part of a national campaign to prevent drowning.

Using activities and resources provided by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS, the UK’s national water safety and drowning prevention charity), the school will be teaching pupils, aged 4-11 about water safety during the week of June 20-28th in support of the Drowning Prevention Week campaign. Drowning Prevention Week was launched by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) in 2012 to promote water safety and reduce incidences of drowning.

Mayor for 2015/16 Councillor Robert Kybird has been elected Mayor of Thetford for the Mayoral year 2015-16. Although the Thetford Mayoralty dates back well over 800 years, the office of Town Mayor is a position that came into existence in 1974 following this country’s last major reorganisation of local government.

Mayor Making and Annual Town Meeting 2015 The Mayor Making Ceremony and Annual Town Meeting took place on 19th May 2015 in the Guildhall. The event was attended by over 100 members of the public who witnessed Councillor Robert Kybird become Mayor, heard the reports of the Council’s Committees and had the opportunity to question the Council. A special thank you is given to the Students from Thetford Academy for providing the wonderful music during the Mayor Making Ceremony and the interval.

Dear Editor, I would like to respond to the letter from Sarah, in issue 114, May 2015 of About Thetford entitled "Dog owners failing to be responsible". It sounds absolutely appalling that those parents are being forced to be continually vigilant in an attempt to avoid the numerous piles of dog poo.

It must be extremely stressful trying to guide their children away from it. I am certainly not defending the actions of those uncaring individuals. However, I really wanted to defend all those other dog owners who are very conscious about the dangers of leaving their pets mess lying around. Most of us dog walkers do pick up our dogs waste. Apart from the dangers of toxoplasmosis to children, no one inadvertently wants to stand in it, even if you own a dog. Picking up after your animal friend is all part of being a responsible dog owner. It is therefore very unfortunate that a few inconsiderate people always seem to give the caring majority a bad name.

Ground breaking digital treasure-hunt comes to the Brecks The BNG Landscape Partnership is pleased to announce the award of a new grant of £2040 to Norfolk Trails for the development of an exciting and innovative new form of walking trail in the heart of Thetford.

Called the Thetford Munzee Heritage trail, this new project will see a series of discreet ‘Quick Reference’ (QR) codes being placed in key locations around Thetford Town, creating a digital heritage trail that can be accessed through the Munzee App. It will encourage participants to explore the town and discover some of its fascinating ancient buildings and features, while also providing information and links to further opportunities for discovery. The trail will be set up and launched during the summer.

Munzee is a high-tech treasure hunt where you download a free app to your smartphone and start capturing Munzees to score points. A Munzee is a QR code hidden somewhere in the surroundings; be that on a lamppost, in a shop window or on a sign. The app features an interactive map, built-in compass and uses GPS to help you find your way to each Munzee. In addition you will be given a clue for each Munzee. When you find it, you can scan the code to score your points... but not before answering a special quiz question. The quicker you get it right, the more points you get. Half the fun is in the hunt; but they aren’t always a piece of cake to find so you need to keep your treasure hunting wits about you!

Once you start, you just won’t want to stop. You’ll be collecting Munzee points left, right and centre! And we can guarantee that it won’t just be the kids as Munzee trails are perfect for all generations and are great for getting the whole family outside exploring their local area. It’s a brilliant way to learn more about the fascinating history and landscape of Thetford and to discover places you may never have been to. “We are delighted to be funding the Munzee Trail Project, which offers an original and imaginative way of engaging younger people particularly with the heritage of historic Thetford. We hope the munzees will encourage residents and visitors alike to get out and about and explore this fascinating town.” James Parry, Chairman BNG Grant Award Committee The ‘Breaking New Ground’ Landscape Partnership Scheme, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has made this project possible through its small grants fund which supports individuals, organisations and communities seeking funding for their own Landscape or Heritage projects in the scheme area. The Breaking New Ground team were pleased to receive a number of fantastic applications for its second round of grants, and the Thetford Munzee Heritage Trail will be joining the two other projects that received funding last December.

The Sandlines project is already delivering a series of creative writing workshops inspired by the Brecks.

The Brecks Landscape Patterns project will be taking participants out into the landscape to discover the landscape and create art. Both of these projects are actively encouraging anyone with an interest in either writing or art and experience is definitely not required!

Ancient House BBC Filming

Antiques expert and Antiques Road Trip presenter James Braxton dropped into Ancient House Museum recently to find out about the story of Maharajah Duleep Singh and Prince Frederick, the founder of our town museum.

Curator Oliver Bone displayed selection of objects from our store and talked about the part the Duleep Singh’s played during WW1.

Speaking about his filming experience Oliver said “It’s great that Thetford’s Ancient House Museum and this fascinating story will be appearing on the popular Antiques Road Trip TV programme.” The crew were fantastic to work with, James happily posed for photos with some of our visitors before setting off to Swaffham.

Our flint alphabet also caught James’s eye, it turned out he had stayed in Brandon the night before and was keen to hear about flint knapping connection. The programme will be shown either in the Autumn or early New Year.

Tesco staff raise more than £5k in memory of former colleague

Tesco in Thetford teamed up with the Tesco Express Store to get as many people as possible entering the Race For Life. Tesco employee Sarah Douthwaite organised it in store. Sarah said that ‘for so many years now, cancer has touched all of us at the store in different ways but one of our colleagues lost her battle on December 25th 2013, namely - Carly Cash. She was an inspiration to everyone. She entered Race For Life even when she was suffering. So far this year we have raised £5,715,50 with a bit more expected to come in”.

Advice corner from Citizens Advice Bureau:

I bought a new mobile phone six months ago, but I never have any signal at home or work at all. I want to cancel my contract and go back to my old mobile company as I always had good service with them, but my new provider says I’ll have to pay all 18 months of the contract remaining if I want to cancel. I can’t afford to pay that all at once and a new contract, but I also can’t have a mobile phone that never works when I need it.

What can I do?

Most mobile phone contracts last 24 months but often they don’t specify minimum standards of service, so it can be tricky to get out of them without paying a hefty fee. Your best bet is to keep a log of times when your phone doesn’t work. Then contact your service provider and ask them if there is anything they can do.

This might solve the problem without you needing to cancel.

It might say something in your contract about how much reception you should get: if so you should be able to

cancel the contract without paying. Unfortunately, you can’t rely on what an online coverage checker will say as they’re just a guide and will only ever give an idea of the average signal someone can expect outside in that area. If the phone doesn’t work in your house or workplace but does work outside, the problem might be with those buildings themselves. In that case you wouldn’t normally be able to cancel without paying. It might be that the signal just isn’t strong enough, so you should ask your provider to carry out a signal strength check.

If there’s no signal in your whole area, you might be able to cancel under the Supply of Goods and Services Act. Very poor service most of the time might mean the network is breaking your contract. Some contracts have terms and conditions which mean they’re allowed to not provide service sometimes, so you need to get advice to see if this applies to you.

Before anything else, contact your service provider, share any evidence of poor service and explain why you should be let out of your contract early. They might well allow you to cancel. And if you need more advice, contact your local CAB, or call our consumer service number on 03454 04 05 06.

Urban Street Dance Crew We are a local dance group who have been running now for 14 years. We have just been successful in qualifying for the 3rd time for the World Street Dance Championships in August held in Glasgow!

We will be taking 21 dancers plus spectators to the 3 day event and are appealing to local business for donation support to help us on our journey. We are a non profit group seeing events such as this being funded by the families themselves with an approx. cost of £300 pp. It is an amazing event seeing some of the best dancers from around the world compete under one roof, and for our children to be apart of that should make Thetford very proud! We have set up a Just Giving page and recently held a fun day which has started us off, but we would love the dancers to gain as much support as possible.

Why not pop in and see what we are about? We hold Tap and Contemporary classes from 4pm on Mondays & Street dance on Tuesday, with Thursdays being our competition training night.
