Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiatives

The Cotton Bowl Athletic Association continued in its mission to be a champion for change in the fight against systemic racism and discrimination in the quest for equity and social justice for all through its Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives.

FRED MCCLURE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Dallas native Shitara Taylor served as the first CBAA Fred McClure Intern, joining the staff for a six-month stint. The University of North Texas and Tarleton State University graduate supported the day-to-day operations of the CBAA office, assisted in the execution of various Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and Cotton Bowl Foundation events and activities and played a role in the communications and media operations efforts leading up to, during and after the regular-season college football games at AT&T Stadium and the 86th Classic.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

The Cotton Bowl Athletic Association celebrated Black History Month via its website and social media platforms.

NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY AND WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

The Cotton Bowl Athletic Association celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 2 and Women’s History Month throughout March via its website and social media platforms.

KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERETTES SCHOLARSHIP

Since 2002, the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association has endowed a scholarship at Kilgore College for one deserving member of the famed Kilgore Rangerettes. The Rangerettes have been a Classic fixture since founder and Cotton Bowl Hall of Famer Gussie Nell Davis first introduced the Sweethearts of the Gridiron in 1949. The endowed scholarship, invested with the Texas Presbyterian Foundation via Kilgore College Foundation, is awarded each academic year to a deserving sophomore member of the squad.

The 2021-22 scholarship recipient is Zoë Dale, a rising sophomore from Celina, Texas. She plans to pursue a degree in Psychology specializing in Child Development or a career as a Dental Hygienist.
