PP Strengthens grip on local municipalities

The Partido Popular (PP) has made signi cant gains in the Vega Baja region, reasserting its dominance in what has traditionally been a rightwing stronghold. Building upon their achievements four years ago, the PP has managed to recapture additional ground, winning eleven absolute majorities in the region, compared to the PSOE’s nine.

In a surprising turn of events, the PP’s

success extends beyond the absolute majorities, as they have also secured the highest number of votes in three municipalities. This includes Orihuela, where the Popular Party emerged victorious with a simple majority, obtaining ten councillors.

One of the most remarkable victories of election night was the PP’s majority win in Jacarilla, wresting control of the municipality from the PSOE.

Additionally, the PP achieved absolute majorities in Almoradí, Albatera, Catral, Redován, Cox, Bigastro, Formentera del Segura, Benijófar, Pilar de la Horadada, and Torrevieja.

In the municipal elections of Torrevieja, the PP has swept aside the opposition. Eduardo Dolón not only rea rmed the absolute majority achieved in 2019 but also increased the number of councillors from 14 to 16. The Partido Popular garnered 55 percent of the total votes, re ecting a 9.2 percent increase from the previous elections in 2019, with an additional 2,372 votes. Their total count rose from 10,261 to 12,640.

Meanwhile, the PSOE managed to secure an absolute majority in its strongholds of Rojales, Guardamar del Segura, Dolores, Los Montesinos, Rafal, Algorfa, San Isidro, and Benferri. Furthermore, they surprisingly won the municipality of Granja de Rocamora.

In San Miguel de Salinas, the PSOE remains the leading party with six councillors, followed by the PP with

four, Vox with two, and the EU with one. The socialists will need the support of the EU to form a government. José Manuel Butrón comfortably claimed victory in Los Montesinos, with the PSOE obtaining an absolute majority of nine councillors. The PP secured three seats, while EUPV won one.

In Pilar de la Horadada, the Partido Popular achieved a historic victory, winning an absolute majority with a total of 14 councillors, three more than in the previous term. The current mayor, José María Pérez, will continue to govern the town. The PP received 4,521 votes, nearly a thousand more than in previous years.

However, in Callosa de Segura, the PP’s dominance waned slightly as they won seven seats, one less than in 2019. Former PP councillor Javier Pérez, leading the newly formed Ucin (Unión de Ciudadanos Independientes), entered the town hall with three seats. The PSOE maintained its ve councillors, while the EU and Vox secured one seat each.

No change

In Rojales, the PSOE, under the leadership of Antonio Pérez, secured an absolute majority with nine councillors, compared to the PP’s four, two from Ciudadanos (C’s), and two from Pader, marking one of C’s best results of the night.

Guardamar del Segura witnessed the PSOE once again obtaining an absolute majority, albeit by the slimmest margin. José Luis Sáez will govern with nine councillors, while the PP’s representation increased to six. Vox and the EU secured one seat each.

In Albatera, the PP expanded its absolute majority, securing 11 councillors compared to the PSOE’s ve and Vox’s one. Similarly, in Catral, the PP will govern alone with nine councillors, while the PSOE secured four.

There were no changes in San Fulgencio, where the PSOE emerged victorious with six councillors, including Sam Hull and Darren Parmenter. However, governing is not guaranteed for the PSOE, as the PP secured ve councillors, and the PIPN won two seats. The PIPN has been highly critical of the socialist government.

Overall, the Partido Popular’s impressive performance in the Vega Baja region signi es a strengthening of their political in uence in this rightleaning area.

orrevieja police find dead pig in van

Civil Guard o cers in Torrevieja uncovered an unexpected and bizarre ‘passenger’ when they stopped a van in the city. Only to discover a dead pig - raising serious concerns about public health risks. The driver of the van, whose identity remains undisclosed, was denounced by the authorities for several infractions related to the transportation of the animal.

The discovery was made during a routine prevention operation on the AP-7 motorway near Torrevieja. O cers from the Torrevieja Command’s Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) detected a suspicious package in the trunk of a small van. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the package contained a dead pig intended for human consumption.

A patrol from the Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona) arrived at the scene from Guardamar and con rmed that the pig was of domestic origin. Alarming concerns arose as the driver failed to provide any documents regarding the pig’s origin or its hygienic condition, lacking vital veterinary evidence.

Adding to the severity of the situation, it was discovered that the vehicle used for transportation did not adhere to the necessary technical and

sanitary measures, posing a considerable potential risk to public health.

As a result of their ndings, the investigators promptly led a denouncement against the driver, reporting the incident to the Ministry of Health. If found guilty, the driver could face a substantial ne amounting to a maximum of 1,200,000 euros.

To ensure public safety, a specialised company was summoned to remove the pig’s remains for proper disposal. Meanwhile, the Civil Guard continues its investigations in an e ort to determine the origin of the animal and the circumstances surrounding this illicit transportation. The intervention by Seprona in this case has successfully prevented the meat from entering the human

consumption market, the team was particularly concerned about the prevention, control, and eradicationof animal diseases.

The Alicante Police Command emphasizes the importance of such interventions, highlighting their role in protecting public health, improving animal health and product quality, and minimising the hazards associated with the consumption of animalderived products. With ongoing investigations, authorities remain vigilant to ensure the identi cation of all individuals involved in the unlawful transportation of meat, safeguarding the well-being of the public at large. People are being warned about buying meat from illegal sources even if it is o ered below market prices.

Airline strikes threatened

Flights to Spain are facing considerable disruption this summer if strikes planned by more than 10 airlines go ahead as proposed by the Spanish Union of Airline Pilots (SEPLA). The proposed walkouts involve pilots from major carriers including Air Nostrum, Air Europa, Iberia, Ryanair, and easyJet, among others.

The strikes are the result of an ongoing dispute between SEPLA and the Spanish Ministry of Transport over the implementation of a “minimum services” law. This law mandates pilots to work during labour disputes to ensure that 90 percent of ights continue to operate. While these strikes may raise concerns among passengers, the majority of British travellers visiting Spain are unlikely to be severely a ected since most ights are operated by British-based crews.

However, some ights, particularly those originating in Spain, could experience disruptions if the strikes proceed as planned. Airlines are expected to provide a ected passengers with alternative departures and accommodations to minimise the inconvenience caused. Additionally, Italy is also experiencing aviation industrial action, with multiple strikes scheduled throughout the day, primarily by ground sta . This could potentially result in further travel disruptions on

what is expected to be a busy travel day.

Despite the potential strikes, Spain’s tourism industry was showing signs of signi cant strength at the end of 2022. In December alone, the number of international tourist arrivals reached 4.1 million, a mere 4.4 percent below the gure recorded in December 2019.

This recovery in international tourism has occurred alongside rising prices within the sector.

Data from January’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicates that accommodation prices were 18.6 percent higher than the same month in 2019, while leisure and catering prices saw a 14.9 percent increase. The combination of increased tourist volume and price hikes has resulted in tourism revenues surpassing pre-pandemic levels. In fact, international tourist expenditure in December was 4.5 percent higher than in the same month of 2019.

March employment fi ures encoura in

In a positive sign for the Spanish economy, unemployment numbers in Spain dropped signi cantly in March, reaching the lowest level for the month since 2008, according to data recently released by the labour ministry.

year-on-year comparison, the number of people without work plummeted by an impressive 246,503 individuals.

ever recorded for the month of March in the country’s historical series.

Domestic tourism also performed well at the end of 2022, consistently surpassing 2019 activity levels for the past three quarters. In December, the number of overnight stays by residents in tourist accommodations increased by 2.9 percent compared to the same month in 2019. One of the driving factors behind this excellent performance is the slow recovery of residents’ travel abroad. Card payment data from Caixa Bank revealed that in January of this year, spending on cards abroad was still 16.8 percent below the levels recorded in January 2019.

As the proposed strikes loom, both airlines and travellers will be closely monitoring the situation for any potential disruptions to travel plans. E orts will be made to minimise the impact on passengers, and a ected airlines are expected to provide suitable alternatives for a ected ights.

The registered unemployed decreased by 48,755 individuals, marking a notable decline of 1.67 percent compared to the previous month. This monthly drop is the largest seen in the past two decades, indicating a robust improvement in the country’s employment situation.

The total number of registered unemployed individuals in March stood at 2.86 million, the lowest gure recorded for the month since 2008. In a

This decline in unemployment was observed across various economic sectors, including services, construction, industry, and agriculture. Notably, the services sector experienced the most signi cant decrease, with a fall of 42,789 individuals.

Construction saw a decline of 3,898, while industry and the agricultural sector witnessed decreases of 3,419 and 2,648 respectively.

Young people below the age of 25 also bene ted from this positive trend, as their unemployment rate reached 215,099 individuals, the lowest

Commenting on the encouraging data, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We have the best employment data in the last two decades. We reached the all-time high for average a liates to social security, and the unemployment gures are the best in the last 15 years. All this despite the situation of international and European uncertainty.”

The decline in unemployment numbers in Spain re ects a growing con dence in the country’s economy and provides hope for continued progress in the labour market.

Spanish police arrest 64 people in counterfeit document scam

In a joint e ort, the Spanish National Police and the Customs Unit of the Tax Agency have successfully apprehended 64 individuals involved in obtaining counterfeit documents for unrestricted travel across the Schengen Area. The arrests were made after people were found to possess false driving licenses, passports, and identity cards.

The Spanish Interior Ministry issued a statement announcing the outcome of the operation. In addition to the arrests, authorities seized 136 counterfeit documents, all bearing European citizenship. These fraudulent documents acquired through social networks, with prices ranging from €1,000 to €3,000.

The investigation was initiated by the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency, which closely monitors parcel shipments from abroad. Authorities were able to identify suspicious shipments containing forged documents. To verify the intercepted documents, they sought assistance from the

National Police of Athens.

Among the 64 apprehended individuals, 24 were captured in the capital city of Madrid. They now face charges related to smuggling, document forgery, and o enses against the rights of foreign citizens. Speci cally, they are accused of facilitating irregular immigration, a pressing issue that Spain has been dealing with in recent times.

In a separate operation called Sortie 23, the Spanish Civil Guard arrested seven individuals linked to a criminal organisation involved in providing false documentation to immigrants in the Canary Islands. The group would then help these immigrants relocate to other regions of Spain or even European countries, particularly Italy. The arrests took place in Murcia, Valencia, and Huelva, with multiple addresses being searched. As a result, numerous documents, third-party passports, money, and mobile phones were seized.

Moreover, the Spanish police also apprehended the leader of

the criminal organisation, who had attempted to facilitate the illegal departure of two minors from Valencia to Italy using forged documents.

Clampdown

This isn’t the rst crackdown on such criminal activities in Spain. Earlier this year, the Spanish Civil Guard detained nine individuals accused of perpetrating more than a hundred frauds related to the regularisation of immigrants. The group allegedly received payments ranging from €500 to €700 for assisting migrants in registering their residence in the Community of Navarre.

The Spanish authorities remain committed to targeting individuals and criminal organizations involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit documents for travel within the Schengen Area. These recent operations serve as a clear demonstration of the government’s determination to combat irregular immigration and uphold the integrity of identity and travel documents.

inistry finally approves drainage improvements

Directorate General for Roads almost 5 months to authorise the execution of these important and necessary rainwater works in Doña Inés, one of the areas most a ected by the torrential rains.

The works, which will be carried out by Agamed, could begin in 15 days and the execution budget amounts to 524,300 euros (VAT included) and the works will take around ve months to complete.

This enlargement will provide a greater storage capacity (14,000 m3) for water from the existing transversal drainage works, minimising the continuous ooding of the Doña Inés housing development and the N-332 road.

Torrevieja. The Directorate General for Roads of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda has authorised Agamed to “enlarge the rainwater drainage basin adjacent to the N-332 in the municipality of Torrevieja”, in the Doña Inés housing development, one of the areas most a ected by the torrential rains.

It is worth noting that it has taken almost 5 months for the Directorate General of Roads to approve the authorisation for the execution of these important and necessary rainwater works in Doña Inés.

However, the Torrevieja Town Hall government team has expressed its satisfaction with this authorisation, “valid for a period of 18 months” from the noti cation of the granting of the authorisation, so that the works will start and nish within these deadlines.

These works, which will be put out to tender and awarded by Agamed in a few days, could begin in two weeks and the execution budget amounts to 524,300 euros (VAT included), with a completion period of around ve months. The surface area of the lamination basin to be built is 4,533 square metres and the average depth is 3.2 metres.

The project involves the enlargement of the rainwater collection basin on the left bank of the N-332 road, in a public

area, which receives water from the collection basin annexed to the Los Mercados site and from the ditch on the east bank of the N-332 road.

Given the low storage capacity (approximately 2,000 m3) of the existing lamination pond, even in medium-intensity rainfall, the pond lls up and over ows, causing ooding in the Doña Inés housing estate, sometimes making it necessary to cut o tra c and making it impossible for residents to access and leave their homes, as is happening these days.

In order to minimise ooding in this area, and given the size of the ows owing into the area where the lamination basin is located, it was considered necessary to enlarge the existing lamination basin, so as to have a greater storage capacity (it will increase to 14,000 m3) for the water from the existing transversal drainage works. This will minimise ooding in the urbanisation and on the N-332 road.

GBP

Amongst key UK economic releases this week, there was an unexpected increase in the latest ILO unemployment rate, which jumped from 3.8 to 3.9% during March. There were also higher claims than expected, with an increase of 46.7K against an expected decline of around 11K over the period. Much the same as in the US and Europe, the UK Labour market has remained tight for some time, so the sudden deterioration could be telling us something about the prospects for the broader economy.

On that note, incoming UK economic data will continue to be closely scrutinized by both the BoE and markets alike, as they try to assess whether the economy is rigid enough to sustain further interest rate hikes, given ongoing double-digit UK in ation.

That key in ation update is released on Wednesday next week, with the latest estimates predicting another month of gains, which could result in a rise on the headline from 10.1 to 10.4% during April. Bank of England governor, Andrew Bailey, highlighted earlier in the week that the UK was dealing with a wage price spiral. Speaking at the British Chambers of Commerce annual conference, Bailey implied that the UK was now going through the ‘second-round’ e ects of in ation, suggesting that the sudden increase among energy and food prices has impacted wage and price setting among companies, which in turn helps to fuel further increases among in ation. UK in ation does seem unreasonably high given the marked slowdown in overall in ation in the developed world. As we have highlighted before, UK in ation is currently running at almost the double the level of the US. No doubt there are UK-speci c factors behind the math, such as Brexit, logistics and a lack of quali ed lorry drivers,

GBP / EUR UPDATE

given that much of the food we eat is transported this way. It has also been noted that the large supermarkets have been slow to pass on much of the recent drop in oil prices at the forecourts.

The Supermarkets matter, given that they supply around 50% of all petrol (gas) sales, and over 1/3 of total fuel sales.

As long as in ation remains frothy, the BoE will remain in hiking mode, and to that end markets currently predict another two rate hikes from the BoE before they likely reach their terminal* rate. That should help to keep the pound fairly well supported, given that many of the major central banks have, or are planning to, move to a pause in their respective hiking cycles. However, sterling has struggled this week against a broadly stronger dollar (see USD), with GBP/USD dropping from a one-year high at over 1.2675, to under 1.2400. However, at the same time GBP/EUR moved back over 1.1500, implying a more robust pound outside of the cable mix.

*Terminal is the end or nal rate.

EURO

It has been a tough week for EUR/USD bulls, with the pair continuing to decline, having dropped by around 1.7% during last week. As of yesterday (Thursday), the pair slipped below 1.0760, which is a two-month low for the pair. Given that we were recently trading at a one-year top (above 1.1050), the turnaround has been quite spectacular. What has caused the move? Well, aside from the USD side of the pair (and that really matters), European data has played a part with news that regional in ation rose less than expected during April. Headline in ation increased by 0.6%, against an expected 0.7% jump. However, core in ation remains at 5.6% on an annual basis, so that should still keep the ECB in a fairly hawkish mood.

Mariposa Energía has gone from strength to strength

Costa Blanca based energy company, Mariposa Energía has gone from strength to strength since it rst launched and, due to its continuing success, it has opened three new o ces across Spain in this last year alone.

Its mission is two-fold: to save homeowners and businesses money and to help save the future of the planet with renewable and sustainable energies that reduce the levels of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere and help to combat climate change.

Mariposa Energía o ers two di erent green energy options: the ability to switch to their cheaper, 100% green energy tari s and solar panel installations, which have become increasingly popular throughout Spain in recent years, thanks to the abolition of the infamous ‘sun tax’ and the very quick return on investment consumers are seeing when they choose to go solar.

According to Mariposa Energía, due to the savings on the cost of electricity which solar panels provide, many people are nding their installation has paid for itself within just two to three years.

“The savings are really quite staggering,” Martin Hill said. “With the volatility in the wholesale energy market, both currently and predicted for the future, a solar panel installation provides the perfect solution, which allows consumers to save money both in the short and long term.”

Not only do solar panels save people

money, they also prevent thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide from being pumped into our atmosphere, a gure which Mariposa Energía calculates in the comprehensive, no obligation proposals they provide to consumers.

“Climate change is a very real and a very urgent problem we simply cannot ignore,” Martin said. “Our planet’s

temperature is rising at an alarming rate, the e ects of which can already be seen with a rise in ooding, droughts, forest res and weatherrelated disasters. Moving to green energy is a small step which can make a huge di erence in the ght against climate change and can help to protect our planet for future generations to come.”

What’s more, a solar panel installation can also add value to a property. While the amount can vary, research suggests that solar panels increase the resale value by 5%.

With all the advantages that solar energy o ers, it’s easy to understand why so many people are choosing to install solar panels on their homes or businesses.

“We’ve seen demand for solar panels soar this last year and our team is

growing rapidly to cater for this increased demand, allowing us to install solar panels anywhere in Spain,” Martin Hill added.

To nd out more about solar panel installations and green energy, contact the friendly Mariposa Energía team today on +34 692 961 532, email them at martinhill@ mariposaenergia.es or visit the website www.mariposaenergia.es

We received an invitation to my friend’s wedding in Ibiza this Summer. We hadn’t had a holiday for years, so we decided to make a week of it. My friend and I haven’t seen each other for years, until a recent trip to Spain for her Hen night. When I got home, I got a message from her telling me that they needed to cut the numbers and she could no longer include me and my husband. At the Hen do, I got the feeling something wasn’t right. When we set eyes on each other, I saw her jaw drop, as I’d lost a lot of weight; she knew that because I’d told her I’d joined a slimming club. I also showed her a photo of me in my wedding outfit to see if she was ok with it, and she said she was. I admit I have lost a lot of weight and got fit at the Gym. I feel this is the reason my husband and I have been uninvited. The problem is, we’ve laid out for flights and accommodation.

accept it without asking for an explanation. If you feel it’s because she doesn’t want to be shown up by a more attractive friend, again, that’s for her; it’s her big day and I guess you could try and understand. If you’ve shelled out for a holiday, then you can still go, and keep your distance by making

sure you are somewhere else on that day. As to whether your friendship can survive after the nuptials, remains to be seen. Yes, we should be the bigger person and not let things like this affect our lives, but of course in real life, they do. Wish the happy couple all the best, and wait to see if she gets in touch after the wedding.

If you’ve been uninvited, there’s nothing you can do. If you haven’t yet replied I would just WRITE TO SARA IN CONFIDENCE. A PSEUDONYM WILL BE USED IF YOU WISH. Alicante province sees home price hike

Residential property prices in Spain have reached their highest level since August 2006, with signi cant increases observed in ve provinces, according to recent statistics. The annual price rise across the country averaged 10 percent as of the end of April, equating to over €2,100 per square metre. For example; a medium-sized apartment with two or three bedrooms, ranging between 70 and 90 square metres, now has a market value of approximately €147,000 to €189,000.

This surge in property prices represents the largest recorded increase in nearly 17 years. However, experts in the real estate industry anticipate a slight decline in demand in the coming months, which should lead to more stable market values.

It is important to note that relying solely on the national average price provides limited information to prospective buyers. Even within a speci c town, the average price does not capture the full story. Factors such as location, property type, local amenities, and the desirability of the province, town, or neighbourhood can signi cantly impact the actual asking price. Two identical houses or apartments located just a couple of streets apart can have vastly di erent market

Furthermore, the price growth varies depending on whether the property is newly built or second-hand, encompassing any home that has been previously occupied, regardless of its recent construction. The latest data reveals substantial disparities in the price increases of second-hand homes between di erent provinces, with some experiencing up to 25 percentage points higher growth than others.

Unsurprisingly, provinces with popular beach holiday destinations have witnessed the highest increases in residential property values. Apart from the well-known coastal regions of the Canaries and Balearics, the provinces of Alicante and Málaga, home to the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol respectively, have experienced signi cant climbs in home prices over the past year.

However, it is not solely limited to the coastal areas and islands. Alicante and Málaga are in direct competition

with Navarra, a land-locked province in the north close to the Pyrénées and the Basque Country, with Pamplona as its capital. These three mainland provinces have all exceeded the national average in terms of home value increases but fall below the substantial growth observed in the island regions. Their respective prices rose by approximately 15% based on April 2022 gures.

While the overall surge in residential property prices in Spain is notable, buyers should consider the speci c dynamics of each region and property type when evaluating market values. The local market conditions, demand, and location factors play a crucial role in determining the actual asking prices for homes across the country.

Is the Spanish health

Introduction

In the realm of healthcare, the Spanish and UK health services stand out as two prominent systems that provide medical care to their respective populations. Both countries have made signi cant advancements in healthcare, but the question remains: is the Spanish Health Service better than the UK Health Service? In this article, we will delve into the intricacies of both systems, examining various factors that contribute to their overall performance and e cacy. By exploring key aspects such as accessibility, quality of care, and patient satisfaction, we aim to shed light on this topic and provide valuable insights for those seeking to understand and compare these healthcare systems.

Accessibility: Breaking Down the Barriers

UK Health Service

The UK Health Service, commonly known as the NHS (National Health Service), is renowned for its commitment to providing healthcare services to all residents, regardless of their ability to pay. The NHS operates on a principle of universal coverage, ensuring that healthcare is accessible to everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status. This inclusivity is achieved through a taxation-funded system, where healthcare services are free at the point of delivery.

Spanish Health Service

Similar to the UK, Spain boasts a universal healthcare system known as the Sistema Nacional de Salud

service

(SNS). Under the SNS, Spanish citizens and legal residents have the right to receive healthcare services, with access provided through social security contributions and taxes. The system is designed to guarantee healthcare coverage to all individuals, promoting equal access to medical services throughout the country.

Comparing Accessibility

When comparing the accessibility of the two systems, it is important to consider various factors, such as waiting times, geographical coverage, and ease of obtaining appointments. The UK Health Service has faced challenges in recent years, with increasing demand leading to longer waiting times for certain treatments and appointments. On the other hand, the Spanish Health Service has generally managed to maintain shorter waiting times, ensuring more timely access to medical care for patients.

Quality of Care: Evaluating Medical Standards

UK Health Service

The NHS has long been recognized for its high standard of care and clinical expertise. With a strong focus on evidence-based medicine, the UK Health Service prioritizes the use of the latest research and technology to provide e ective treatments to patients. The NHS also invests signi cantly in medical education and research, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the healthcare profession.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Sunday 4th June – ITV2, 8.25pm

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

better than the UK health

Spanish Health Service

The Spanish Health Service is equally committed to delivering high-quality care to its patients. The system places great emphasis on preventive medicine and public health initiatives, aiming to promote healthier lifestyles and reduce the burden of disease. Additionally, Spain boasts a robust network of hospitals and medical centers, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and sta ed by skilled healthcare professionals.

Comparing Quality of Care

Assessing the quality of care in both systems requires a comprehensive evaluation of various metrics, including patient outcomes, mortality rates, and patient safety records. While both the UK and Spain have made signi cant strides in healthcare provision, studies have shown that the UK Health Service often performs better in terms of patient safety indicators and clinical outcomes. However, it is essential to note that healthcare quality can vary within regions and individual healthcare facilities, and generalizations should be made cautiously.

Patient Satisfaction: Meeting Expectations

UK Health Service

Patient satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any healthcare system, as it re ects the experiences and perceptions of individuals seeking medical care. The NHS strives to prioritise patient satisfaction by implementing measures

to improve patient experience, such as reduced waiting times, enhanced communication, and patient-centered care. Despite facing challenges due to increased demand, the NHS continues to work towards meeting the expectations of its diverse patient population.

Spanish Health Service

The Spanish Health Service, too, places considerable importance on patient satisfaction. Recognising the signi cance of patient feedback, e orts have been made to enhance the patient experience by implementing measures such as shorter waiting times, improved access to information, and increased involvement of patients in their own healthcare decisions. These initiatives aim to ensure that individuals receive the necessary support and care while maintaining a positive healthcare experience.

Comparing Patient Satisfaction

Assessing patient satisfaction is subjective and in uenced by individual experiences. Surveys and studies indicate that patient satisfaction levels can vary between the UK and Spain, with no clear consensus on which system performs better in this aspect. However, both countries acknowledge the importance of patient-centred care and continuously strive to improve their healthcare services to meet the evolving needs and expectations of their populations.

Conclusion

In conclusion, comparing the Spanish

service?

and UK health services is a complex task that involves evaluating various factors such as accessibility, quality of care, and patient satisfaction. While the UK Health Service demonstrates a strong commitment to universal coverage and clinical excellence, the Spanish Health Service excels in providing timely access to care and emphasising preventive medicine. It is important to note that the comparison between these two healthcare systems is not de nitive, as both have their own strengths and areas for improvement.

Ultimately, the question of whether the Spanish Health Service is better than the UK Health Service lacks a clear-cut answer. But the writer did a personal audit and found nearly everyone he asked the question, Is the Spanish Health Service Better Than the UK Health Service? The resounding answer was yes for the following reasons. The waiting list for hospital treatment was much shorter. Obtaining an appointment with your doctor was also much shorter, in most cases the next day could be obtained.

Unfortunately A&E waiting times was as long as UK times. The writer himself took ill on a visit to the UK and was shocked by the waiting time for an ambulance and the waiting time in A&E. and the was for a suspected heart attack. The language can be a problem, fortunately in Torrevieja hospital most doctors speak English.

Spangles - Doing what they do best

Since their busy Christmas season, Spangles has concentrated on updating their repertoire with new songs and welcoming new members. They have kept their performance skills honed too! A concert at the Centro Cultural in Sucina on 6 May being just one. “We were honoured to be invited by the Cantos del Corazón group to sing with them“ said Lyn Baines, Chorus Manager. “We thoroughly enjoyed hearing local traditional songs and performing to a new, appreciative audience. We’re delighted to have been invited to perform alongside them again later this year.”

Not ones to rest on their laurels, Spangles was back by popular demand at the Escuela O cial de Idiomas in San Javier last week, to run another a cappella workshop for the language students. Shyness, and hiding at the back of the audience,

was not an option. Soon everyone was joining in some fun vocal exercises. Inhibitions disappeared and everyone had a super time.

Not everyone has the time to buy products and take them to the charity or indeed any of the drop o points, but they still want to help.

‘OK I’m crying!’ Britain’s Got Talent fans in tears as the judges break the rules and give an extra JOINT golden buzzer to one-legged dancer after being BOOED by the audience

Britain’s Got Talent fans were left in tears during Saturday’s nal audition show as the judges awarded a joint golden buzzer to an act for the rst time ever.

Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli were left visibly emotional when Musa Motha, a South African native who had his leg amputated aged 10 due to cancer, stunned with a powerful dance routine.

The former footballer, 27, who now resides in London, told how after giving up his sporting dreams, he had learned to dance with the help of his friends.

However, despite being impressed by the performance and giving Musa a standing ovation, the judges were unable to give him a golden buzzer as they’d already been used in previous auditions, prompting boos from the audience.

This led to the judges then breaking the rules and making the decision to jointly press the buzzer, meaning that for the rst time, there are eight acts going through to the semi nal via the golden buzzer.

total renovation of this important promenade of the city. The contract has been awarded to the company UTE ORTHEM-ABALA, with a 10% reduction, being the total amount of the work of almost 4 million euros (3,929,612 euros). Once the works have been awarded, the work could begin in just two weeks.

The project comprises two sections and almost one linear kilometre of work. The Northern Section, between

the northern boundary of the municipality of Torrevieja (opposite the Acequión de La Mata canal) and the Plaza de Encarnación Puchol, with a length of 310 metres. And the Central Section, between the south of the Plaza de Encarnación Puchol and the Avenida de Los Europeos, with a length of 660 linear metres.

It should be noted that these works will include the complete repair of the pedestrian path in these two sections,

which are in poor condition, as well as the replacement of the existing light points in the three sections with LED technology models.

The construction solution is intended to be similar to the existing one in terms of appearance (wood), ecological and dismountable, similar to the existing one, but seeking to reduce maintenance and increase durability. The paving is proposed with technological wood or similar, in

The author, 73, revealed he fought the illness last year but is now in remission after an NHS op and chemo.

Speaking about his younger brother Simon, Tony, who was diagnosed with stage 2 bladder cancer, told The Sun: ‘I could hear he was extremely upset — I had to calm him down. He then switched and became Mr Helpful.’

After Tony found blood in his urine he revealed: ‘I went straight to my GP, who said it was a sign of bladder cancer. I didn’t know what to say to Emma or my son Luke.’

The solution consists of creating a rigid platform formed by modules 3 metres wide and 2.90 metres long, using ve treated pinewood beams placed longitudinally and braced together (transversally) by means of billets of the same wood placed between the longitudinal beams.

Phillip Schofield’s lover was just fifteen when they met

Schoolboy asked star for job on

This Morning three years before he was hired as a production assistant and began a air with the then 50-something presenter - as photos of them together emerge

Phillip Scho eld’s lover was just 15 when met while he was at a theatre school

The schoolboy asked him for a job and Scho eld arranged an interview for him

Phillip Scho eld’s lover was just 15 when they met at a talk the veteran TV presenter was giving at a theatre school, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

At the time, the schoolboy asked him for a job, and Scho eld later arranged an interview for him. It led to a position as an ITV production assistant when he turned 18. Some time afterwards, their a air began.

Last night, as Scho eld’s 38-year career in television lay in ruins, his This Morning co- presenter Holly Willoughby told of her devastation when she discovered he had lied to her about the relationship.

She revealed: ‘When reports of this relationship rst surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not. It’s been very hurtful to now nd out that this was a lie.’

Today, this newspaper can

reveal the real reason behind Scho eld’s extraordinary statement on Friday in which he nally came clean about the relationship and apologised to the Mail for lying.

The 61-year-old was forced to con rm allegations of an a air were true because his former lover – who had also worked on This Morning – had unexpectedly confessed all to his lawyers.

Scho eld had hired top law rm Mishcon de Reya to represent the young man, now in his mid 20s, presumably believing that he would keep quiet.

But his former lover – who the MoS has chosen not to name –told lawyers that although he feared exposure, he was fed up lying about the relationship.

The Mail on Sunday, which rst broke the scandal, can also reveal:

Ms Willougby has vowed to carry on hosting This Morning with another presenter, although it’s feared the show has been irreparably damaged and could be axed;

She also spoke of how ‘it’s taken time to process’ the bombshell admission from her former friend;

ITV bosses face pressure to explain in detail what they knew of the a air and when – despite insisting that when

they investigated rumours of a relationship in 2020, both denied it;

MailOnline’s Dan Wooton revealed that he told a senior ITV executive about the ‘inappropriate relationship’ in 2019 but the network dismissed it as ‘malicious gossip’; Scho eld’s lover stunned ITV colleagues at a 2020 awards ceremony by ‘declaring his love for Phil’; Questions were raised over whether Scho eld only came out as gay a month later because ITV bosses feared a kiss-and-tell newspaper story.

Scho eld met his future lover at the school in North West England when he was in his late 40s. Some years later the younger man became a production assistant on This Morning when Scho eld was in his early 50s and their ill-advised friendship – which grew into a relationship – started.

The scandal over the a air follows a turbulent few months for Scho eld, who for decades was ITV’s king of daytime television. But eight days ago he sensationally quit This Morning after 21 years after falling out with Ms Willoughby, 42. His departure came just a day after his younger brother Timothy was jailed for 12 years for 11 convictions of sexual o ences involving a child.

Admire the amazing animal sculptures at El Recorral park in Rojales!..

El Recorral Park located on the outskirts of Ciudad Quesada, in the town of Rojales, is a beautifully landscaped sanctuary, and a real hidden gem. A perfect location for family picnics, dog walking, and entertaining children! Strolling around, you can admire the pretty lily ponds and cascades, as you go over quaint bridges and along meandering pathways. You’ll also absorb the pleasant aromas of lavender and rosemary amongst other aromatic herbs, and there are plenty of shaded spots to rest and re ect. One of the highlights in this park has to be the animal sculptures carved out of tree trunks which are scattered around the park, including some that have been carved into charming seating areas.

Another innovative use of nature in this park are the trees with questions, where you will nd numbered signs on the trees (there are 29 in total), each with an environmental related question and 3 possible answers, the correct one is revealed once you nd the next tree! This is great fun and educational at the same time, making this park ideal for families with children. There is also an adventure playground with a mini outdoor library and reading space. A selection of books which are mostly in English, are regularly donated by a very kind local lady. The quiz route begins at the children’s playground where you will nd tree number 1, then following the path, it takes you around the park for about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace. There are picnic benches and toilets situated close to the car park at the entrance. The park has full disabled access and is completely dog friendly. Parking can found at C. Lugar Sector, 297,

Seven signs you need a new car

There are a lot of signs that can tell you when it’s time for a new car. You might be spending more and more on repairs, your car might be constantly breaking down, your safety might be at risk, you might be missing out on the latest technology, your car might be no longer comfortable, you might be wasting money on gas, or you might

just be ready for a change. If any of these things sound like you, then it’s probably time to start looking for a new ride.

You’re spending more and more on repairs

If you’re spending more and more money on repairs for your car, it may be time to start considering a new one.

With regular maintenance, most cars will last for many years without any major issues. But if you nd yourself at the mechanic more and more often, it may be time to start thinking about trading in your old car for a new one.

Your car is constantly breaking down

If your car is constantly breaking down, it’s probably time for a new one. Here are seven signs that you need a new car:

1. You’re spending more money on repairs than on your monthly car payment.

2. Your car is consistently breaking down and you can’t seem to keep it running.

3. You’re afraid to take your car on long trips because you don’t know if it will make it.

4. ”Check engine” has become a permanent xture on your dashboard.

5. You have more than one outstanding recall on your car.

6. Your car isn’t safe to drive anymore and you’re worried about getting in an accident.

7. You’re simply tired of dealing with all the problems and you want a new, reliable car.

You’re safety is at risk

If you’re driving an older car, your safety may be at risk. Here are 7 signs that it’s time for a new ride:

1. Your car is constantly breaking down.

2. You can’t remember the last time you had it serviced.

3. It doesn’t have features that newer cars have, like airbags or antilock brakes.

4. It doesn’t have good gas mileage.

5. The upholstery is ripped or stained.

6. There’s rust on the body of the car.

7. You feel unsafe when you’re driving it.

If any of these apply to you, it’s time to start shopping for a new car!

You’re missing out on the latest technology

If you’re driving an older model car, you’re missing out on the latest technology that’s available in newer models. This can include features like automatic breaking, lane keeping assist, and hands-free calling and texting. If you’re not up-to-date on the latest

automotive technology, you could be putting yourself at risk on the road.

Your car is no longer comfortable

If your car is no longer comfortable, it may be time for a new one. Here are seven signs that you need a new car:

1. Your car is no longer comfortable.

2. You feel like you’re always in the repair shop.

3. Your car is starting to feel cramped.

4. You’re worried about safety features.

5. You’re ready for a change.

6. The value of your car has decreased signi cantly.

7. You just don’t enjoy driving it anymore.

You’re wasting money on gas

If you’re spending more money on gas than you can a ord, it’s time for a new car. A car that gets good gas mileage will save you money in the long run and help you budget better. Plus, if your current car is costing you more in repairs than it’s worth, it’s time to start fresh with a new one.

You’re ready for a change

If you’re nding yourself wanting a change, it might be time for a new car. Here are 7 signs that you need a new set of wheels:

1. You’re always borrowing money from

friends or family to cover repairs.

2. You’re constantly getting into accidents, or your car is getting damaged more often than not.

3. Your car doesn’t feel safe anymore, either because it’s too old or it’s not in the best condition.

4. You’re sick of the same old thing and you’re ready for something new.

5. You don’t have enough space in your car anymore - whether you have a growing family or you just need more room for your hobbies.

6. Your gas mileage is terrible and you’re spending way too much money on gas each month.

7. You simply can’t a ord your car anymore, whether due to monthly payments or repairs/maintenance costs.

If any of these sound like you, it might be time to start shopping for a new car!

Conclusion

If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms, it might be time for a new car. Of course, this isn’t always the case and sometimes these problems can be solved with a simple repair or maintenance check. However, if you nd yourself constantly dealing with car troubles, it might be time to start shopping for a new set of wheels.

Fantastic Close Racing

Sunday May 21st, one of the best days racing of the SAMM Spring Season, with good conditions, although overcast, and really close racing between the ve competing boats. The wind was from the East all day but varied in strength from 3.5 knots at the start of the day and up to 10 knots at the end. It was up and down but without excessive gusts so all boats managed the conditions well.

Race 1 started at 11.15. Vision was rst across, followed in quick succession by Dos and Tres, with Uno and Cuatro crossing neck and neck after one minute. Uno completed the rst lap 22 secs ahead of Cuatro but made a big mistake during lap to losing 21/2 mins to Cuatro and never made it back. At

some point Tres was seen to do a 360 penalty and was assumed to have hit a mark. While she and Dos battled hard and were in seconds of each other on every lap.

The boats were consistently lapping in between 13 and 15 minutes so only managed 4 laps in the hour long race.

The race 2 start was at 12.30 and was the best seen for many weeks with all boats across within 16 seconds. Uno and Tres immediately took the port tack and the others the starboard to get to the rst mark. Cuatro, being sailed single handed was doing extremely well, completing the rst three laps as the second boat and the next two laps as the third. There were battles throughout between other boats but

it wasn’t until the last leg of the last lap that Dos and Tres managed to lap Vision. The wind was generally stronger and all boats were lapping in a consistent time, the fastest in just over 8 mins and the slowest in 10 mins 30 secs, completing 6 or 7 laps.

The results show just how close and competitive the racing was with the average laps times after applying the handicaps

Race 1, Vision 557 secs, Cuatro + 31 secs, Dos + 25 secs, Tres + 8 secs, Uno + 6 secs

Race 2, Vision 380 secs, Cuatro + 11 secs, Dos + 29 secs, Tres + 5 secs, Uno + 4 secs
