Drunk driver crashes into Torrevieja restaurant and flees

In the early hours of Saturday morning a vehicle smashed into the terrace of the renowned Las Cañas

restaurant situated on Calle San Policarpo in Torrevieja. The crash, which happened around 6:15am, shattered

the peace and woke several residents.

The driver, a 33-year-old Spanish national, collided with the terrace’s rst support post and dragged the second along with the vehicle, resulting in extensive damage to the enclosed terrace. Despite the chaos, the driver

ed the scene in an attempt to evade accountability for the wreckage left behind.

The loud impact jolted residents awake, prompting swift action as they jotted down the vehicle’s licence plate and promptly noti ed the police. The driver ed the scene but luckily didn´t get too far due to the damaged caused to his vehicle.

A breathalyser test revealed that the driver of the SUV was positive for alcohol consumption, impairing his ability to navigate and control the car. Authorities intercepted the eeing driver at Faleria Avenue, where he was apprehended by the Local Police and the Civil Guard.

Authorities have started legal proceedings against the driver for committing a crime against tra c safety, given his inebriated state at the time of the incident.

Accident hot spot

San Policarpo street serves as a vital artery connecting the southern urban area to the centre of Torrevieja.

Historically plagued by accidents at intersections, recent measures have been implemented to enhance road safety, including the installation of new tra c lights and light alerts at pedestrian crossings along the stretch, particularly from Diego Ramírez Avenue.

Despite precautionary measures, the collision underscores the persistent dangers posed by reckless driving. The terrace, strategically positioned in the street’s widest section, boasts LED signs to caution motorists of its presence. Nevertheless, the impact in icted signi cant material damage to the terrace’s structure, although mercifully, the incident occurred before the restaurant opened its doors for business.

Las Cañas restaurant, nestled within an old ground- oor house, stands as a cherished cornerstone of Torrevieja’s culinary landscape. Its daily dishes draw throngs of patrons to its terrace and it is a corner-stone of the community.

A fire destroys 12 vehicles in a rural area of Torrevieja

The re started in the vegetation and spread to the adjacent plot.

The Alicante Provincial Fire ghters Consortium received a notice of a vegetation re that was occurring yesterday afternoon and that threatened to spread dangerously on 50 Germanías Street, in a rural area of Torrevieja.

The situation became critical when the re approached the fence of a plot, spreading rapidly through it and reaching several vehicles parked inside. The ames and densely concentrated smoke increased the severity of the situation, threatening to a ect the nearby home. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident and given the quick intervention of the re ghters who prevented a major tragedy, we only have to regret material damage to 12 vehicles that were burned out of the 25 that were parked.

The Torrevieja park re ghters deployed a command and leadership unit (UMJ), a heavy urban pump (BUP)

and a heavy nurse pump (BNP) to combat the ames. The team was made up of a sergeant, a corporal and six re ghters.

Two people arrested for repeated theft of telephone cable in Orihuela

The two arrested, aged 20 and 28, were prepared to take about 120 meters of cable.

On February 23, the National Police in Orihuela was alerted by calling ROOM 091- CIMACC since a suspicious attitude was taking place on the part of a woman and a man who were hanging around some telephone poles in the Vereda del Reino in Orihuela.

The agents assigned to the Citizen Assistance Group rushed to the scene,

locating a woman and a man who were caught stealing telephone wiring. Upon the arrival of the agents they could see how the man had a saw in his hands with which he cut the cable while the woman rolled it up to steal it.

In the presence of the police, those arrested dropped the cable they were stealing and maintained a concealed attitude as if the requirements were not theirs, which did not prevent their arrest. The two arrested Spanish nationals,

aged 20 and 28, were prepared to take about 120 meters of cable, some of them already separated from the plastic coating to facilitate their transport and subsequent sale.

According to the statements of some neighbors, days ago, the couple had already been seen in the area with a baby stroller hanging around the place, coinciding with the previous theft of this type of cable. Currently, it is being investigated whether the

detainees are the perpetrators of the cable thefts in the same area days before.

Torrevieja debuts its “motocaca” service aimed at collecting dog excrement

Acciona, the waste collection and urban cleaning company in Torrevieja, has introduced the “motocaca” service. Despite its humorous name, this specialized vehicle covers an average of seventy kilometers daily, focusing on gathering dog excrement left on the municipality’s streets.

Capable of vacuuming up approximately 30 droppings per day, the service has observed a decrease in the amount collected over time. This decline can be attributed

to both cleaner areas, where dog owners have reduced their pet’s use, and the perception of cleaner streets, as the vehicle’s frequent visits prevent accumulation over time.

The daily routes primarily cover Torrevieja’s seafront, as well as roads, public spaces, and squares, including La Mata’s center. In urbanized areas, the service alternates between Monday and Saturday.

Operated by a rotating company worker, the service

utilizes a 125 cc. motorbike, powered by a petrol engine for its ability to cover signi cant distances daily. However, the equipment used for vacuuming the pet droppings is electric, ensuring e ciency and e ectiveness.

Although not a new invention, “motocaca” vehicles have evolved signi cantly since their introduction in the early 2000s under previous waste collection contracts. Today’s models are powerful, practical, and notably e cient.

Work continues on Guardamar Vocational TrainingCentre

The City Council of Guardamar del Segura continues with the procedures of the Integrated Vocational Training Center, despite the letter from the Generalitat Valenciana, on January 16, in which it communicated the precautionary suspension of the delegation of powers in matters of educational infrastructure regarding to this center and, therefore, requested the council not to proceed with the tender for said infrastructure as soon as the review of the educational needs of the region and the

town is not carried out.

The mayor of Guardamar, José Luis Sáez, has explained in our microphones that this communication is not o cial and the city council is based on the rm resolution obtained by the previous autonomous government that also assigned the budget allocation. In this year, 400,000 euros will be directed to the center’s drafting project, the tender for which will be published in a few days, the rst mayor has assured. This issue is one of those that will be addressed this

afternoon, at 7:30 p.m., at the House of Culture, in an informative talk in which the current situation in educational infrastructure in Guardamar that began with the Edi cant Plan in the IES Les Dunes and CEIP Molivent. The mayor has stated that questioning and wanting the Generalitat to repeal the Edi cant Plan is harmful to the region, because it resolved many educational de ciencies, as in the case of Guardamar, which is still immersed in projects within this framework.

PSOE Orihuelademands the continuity of the Edificant Plan

The Socialist Municipal Group in the Orihuela City Council has presented a motion to urge the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, to guarantee the continuity of the Edi cant Plan for the improvement and dignity of all educational centers in the municipality .

A motion presented by the PSOE, after various statements by the Minister of Education about the “ine ciency” of the Edi cant Plan, and which also contemplates requiring the Department to maintain the investment for all the Edi cant Plan projects that are pending execution in the municipality, as well as addressing new requests from Orihuela schools by providing a budget for new phases of the Edi cant Plan.

The councilor of the PSOE, María García, has indicated that “paralyzing the Edi cant Plan in our community and speci cally in Orihuela would be a step backwards on the path towards improving public education, the centers need this plan to continue improving facilities that Most of them are very deteriorated due to the lack of municipal maintenance and the lack of investment for years by the PP governments in the Valencian Community.

According to García, the Minister of Education, “he is not clear about whether he is going to continue with this program to improve educational

infrastructure or not, and he has only been interested in politicizing a tool that has served to favor the facilities of numerous centers. What it has done is cut the amount planned by the previous government in the Edi cant Plan, which is why many of us fear that there will be schools that already had allocations and that now will not be able to do so and we do not want any of the planned

centers in Orihuela to remain. out”.

The socialist councilor recalled that Orihuela is the municipality where the Department of Education has approved the most actions for the construction and improvement of educational infrastructure in the entire Valencian Community: a total of 21 budgeted actions with an investment of more than 20 million euros, but “the Hurchillo

and Desamparados School is still under construction and the necessary and urgent renovation of the Virgen de la Puerta center is pending, a center that has been waiting for a long time and that is literally sinking, lacks space, has humidity, leaks, It is very di cult to be able to teach in these conditions. Just as the reform of the EASDO is still pending, where it is also urgent to intervene and provide competent facilities to attract more students from inside and outside the city. And, nally, we also want the construction of the new school No. 20 on the Coast to be expedited, not only the barracks that they promised would be there at the

beginning of the year and they have not ful lled but the investment for the new school.”

María García has pointed out that the motion “also requests that investments be expanded with new phases of the Edi cant Plan, since Orihuela is still unable to meet the maintenance needs of the 19 schools in the city, and until there are budgets it will not be able to tender. the necessary contract. This situation aggravates the situation of many centers that have already requested to bene t from a new phase of Edi cant, because for now it is the only way to improve the quality of teaching in Orihuela.”

Local police in Formentera save life with defibrillator

The de brillator allowed the man to regain his pulse after going into cardiorespiratory arrest.

The Local Police of Formentera del Segura saved the life of a man last week thanks to the de brillator.

Last week., the Local Police received noti cation that a man was unconscious on the oor of his home, located on Benijófar Street.

Upon the arrival of the agents, they found the man without a pulse and unconscious, so they quickly began Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), as well as the placement of the Semi-Automatic External De brillator (DESA). It is a medical device for extra-hospital use to reverse cardiac arrest that can help save thousands of lives, as has been the case in this case.

The a ected person, upon the arrival of the agents, went into cardiorespiratory arrest and, after a few minutes of massage and shocks with the AED, he regained his pulse. Subsequently, he was transferred by a SAMU unit to the General Hospital of Elche.

The quick intervention of the colleagues, together with the health care that arrived at the scene in a few minutes, as well as the collaboration of the agents of the Almoradí Civil Guard, allowed the outcome to

not be tragic. With this case, the Local Police highlights “how important the chain of survival is, performing CPR and using a de brillator can radically change a health emergency scene.”

GBP

This week has been relatively quiet on the data from the UK. The monthly UK Nationwide House Price Index was released this morning, which is expected to fall from 0.7% to 0.3%. The data instead came in above expectation, remaining at the 0.7% seen in the previous month. The metric indicates the change in the selling price of homes backed by Nationwide mortgages, so it could indicate resilience in the UK housing market.

Next week spells another quiet week for the pound, with no signi cant data releases. However, sterling could still be impacted by the European Central Bank’s rate decision and employment data released in the US as markets try to predict how this year’s monetary policy decisions will unfold.

EUR

The only notable data out this week was German month-on-month Preliminary CPI in ation data. Forecasters expected CPI to rise from 0.2% to 0.5%, but the data showed that German in ation was 0.4%. This could support the anticipated rate cuts from the European Central Bank that forecasts currently expect to be initiated by the middle of the year.

According to the statistics o ce, year-on-year consumer prices increased by 2.5% compared to a year ago, marking a decline from January’s 3.1%. This gure also aligned closely with economists’ forecasts. Additionally, recent data revealed a moderation in in ation in France and Spain, although Spain did experience a slightly higher outcome than anticipated.

Next week, we’ll see the European Central Bank make its latest decision on interest rates on Thursday. Although it’s anticipated that the European Central Bank will maintain its current interest rates, markets will still be focused on the messaging around future monetary policy in the press conference.

Market forecasts are currently anticipating three to four cuts this year, with the initial cut coming around June or July. This is a signi cant delay and reduction in the cuts predicted earlier in the year. The euro’s value seems to have been determined by the performance of other currencies so far this year, particularly by the dollar’s strength; however, how the ECB chooses to navigate the next meeting could potentially in uence euro performance.

Man arrested for series of house robberies

The Civil Guard, within the framework of the Plan against home robbery, has successfully completed the Bhelshas operation, which has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old young man as the alleged perpetrator of four crimes of robbery with force in the municipalities of Callosa de Segura and Cox using the ‘escalation’ method to access homes. In addition, he was subject to a search, detention and appearance order issued by a court in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Orihuela duty court has ordered his imprisonment for the crimes investigated.

The investigations began in January, when the Civil Guard learned that several robberies had occurred using the burglary method in homes in Callosa de Segura. The events, which occurred during two consecutive days in the same area, occurred when its residents were resting.

The Investigation Area of the Main Post of the Civil Guard of Callosa de Segura with the purpose of stopping began the Bhelshas operation . Using the ‘climbing’ method, he accessed the homes through the community patios.

After an exhaustive analysis, it was determined that an

With a detailed description of the suspect and after intense investigations, the Callosa de Segura Main Post set up a surveillance device that culminated on February 2 with his arrest . The individual was found in possession of objects from one of the robberies investigated in Callosa de Segura, as well as from a home in Cox where he had committed a robbery weeks before.

Once the criminal was identi ed, it was proven that he was a 20-year-old young man with a record of crimes against property. He also had a search, detention and appearance order by a court in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for similar acts. to those investigated.

The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the Orihuela Guard Court, which has ordered his entry into prison. The recovered e ects have been returned to their rightful owners. This operation is part of the Civil Guard’s ‘Plan against home robbery’, which strengthens preventive services and strengthens investigative actions to combat this type of crime.

Extraordinary drought for the Vega Baja to be declared

The Permanent Drought Commission (CPS) of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation ( CHS ), formally constituted this Wednesday morning, has approved in its rst meeting the declaration of partial extraordinary drought since the beginning of March in the Main Territorial Unit ( UTE 1) that includes Vega Baja. The organization’s decision is given by the current conditions in the absence of rain, which will mean maintaining the current restriction of 25% of resources for irrigation and will allow the Syncline wells to be enabled in Calasparra.

The Drought Technical O ce has presented a report con rming the emergency situation su ered by the exploitation system managed

with Segura’s own resources.

On the contrary, the situation of normality is con rmed, which will be maintained for next March, in the exploitation system linked to the headwaters of the Tagus.

The existing volume amounts to 98 Hm3, which is 236 Hm3 less than the average of the last 10 years.

The Commonwealth of the Taibilla Canals has also reported that no restrictions are planned on the urban supplies it serves, which means that neither shortages nor socioeconomic impacts on the related activities will occur.

During the course of the meeting, the situation of the existing volume stored in the basin’s reservoirs for the uses of the ‘basin’ system has also been

reported, amounting to 98 Hm3, which is 236 Hm3 less than the average of the last 10 years.

On the other hand, it has been reported that it is nalizing the processing of the environmental impact declarations, having collected the mandatory reports from the competent regional environmental organizations of the aquifers located in Las Vegas Middle and Baja.

Finally, the Confederation expects that the hydrological evolution will be favorable and has emphasized the moderation of consumption, compliance with current irrigation restrictions (traditional and nontraditional) and the optimal use of resources to reverse, where appropriate, the declaration of extraordinary drought in the shortest possible time.

a fairy tale ambiance. The artwork was created by Mariano Ros who died at the age of 91 in 2017. He had hand crafted them with some colleagues from the year 2000 to 2008. Among the sculptures you can see the city’s coat of arms, the Glorieta Fountain , the Lady of Elche, the famous Palmeral

and monuments such as the Church of Santa María. The location can be easily reached by leaving your car at Parking Mariano Ros, 03291 Elche, and taking a ten minute walk to the site. This involves walking on a slightly bumpy pathway with gravel and small rocks, not suitable for pushchairs or mobility

scooters. Dogs are allowed on a lead. El Cau de Elche is open all day, every day and entrance is free.

International Women’s Day 2024 8th March

Celebrating International Women’s Day

Friday 8th March is International Women’s Day. This global awareness event pushes towards a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where di erence is valued and celebrated.

The initiative has a strong focus on women in the workplace, aiming to create businesses where women thrive, with equal pay, the same opportunities and with inclusive work cultures.

Unfortunately, there is a current ‘rollback’ trend where companies are experiencing a reverse in gender

equality advancements. Women in leadership are leaving their jobs at the highest rate ever seen. The reasons, according to the Women in the Workplace 2022 report from Lean In and McKinsey & Co., are due to employers not meeting the expectations of women leaders. These expectations include a

workplace focus on exibility, employee well-being, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

As a predominantly female-run business, to mark the event The Costa Blanca People is running a special feature to celebrate the achievements of local women in business. There

Hi! My name is Zoe and I am the joint owner of Simply Pools.

When we started the business 7 years ago, our aim was not only to provide high quality construction but also to help our clients step by step in building their custom dream pool.

Our reviews and recommendations from our wonderful clients have helped elevate our business to what it is today.

Being a small family business we put our heart and soul into every proyect and try to accommodate to all of our clients needs.

Having a successful business while also raising children is never an easy task but is the motivation for us to continue to work hard and provide the life we have always dreamed of for our family. Simply Pools is not just a job for us, which is why we strive to o er a wonderful service start to nish.

My name is Grace, I am 26 years old and from Boston, Lincolnshire in England. I moved to Algorfa, Spain in August 2022 to take over the Hotel Algorfa with my family. My father and I are currently working on renovations to the building to include bringing the swimming pool and courtyard area back to life, opening all of the bedrooms that have spent years untouched, creating a rooftop terrace (eventually!) and improving the already popular bar, restaurant and terrace area. We have been hosting regular entertainment events since opening which are only due to get bigger and better for 2024.

We have 3 75’ screens with surround sound inside and a screen on the sunny terrace showing all live sports and hosting karaoke on request most weekends! Our kitchen is open from 8am daily and is known for the €2,50 breakfast, Sunday lunch and Fish Fridays! We are famous for our gorgeous sunsets that can be viewed from the terrace which inspired the logo we have all come to know over the last 18 months! We have been on ‘A New Life in The Sun’ on channel 4 series 8 and will be reappearing on screen again this year on ‘Help! I bought a Hotel’ and ‘Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun’ so keep an eye on us and our transformation over the next coming months!

Just over a year ago, in Algorfa, a quiet little second hand shop with a good feel about it became available. Sue who was enjoying her singing in the evenings but looking for something to keep busy during the day snapped it up!

She gave the shop a total up lift, a brand new modern vibe to match the quality ‘Pre-loved’ clothes, shoes, bags and accessories she was selling there.

‘Back on the Rack’ as the shop is now known has a reputation for nding new homes for beautiful, quality condition preloved items; everything from designer & luxury to casual and formal. All at a fraction of the high street price tag!

What a great way to recycle clothes and items looking for a new home and treat yourself in the process.

With Fashion Show’s, Pop Ups & Social Events by demand, the Rack continues to grow from strength to strength thanks to all our wonderful clients.

Having worked in tourism in the UK, Yvonne had already travelled across Europe and the States promoting a large chain of hotels to the overseas market. After moving to Spain in 2004, her rst priority was to learn the language, which she did whilst working and bringing up her family.

You have 2 choices. You can remove les from your Cloud Storage, or you can increase the amount of Cloud Storage by purchasing more storage. Delete le.

In general, if you delete a le from one device that is synced with the cloud, it will be deleted from other devices that are synced with that cloud storage account.

Cloud services o er a Recycle Bin or trash feature, which temporarily stores deleted les and allows you to recover them

Almoradi hosts ninth Artichoke Congress

Hundreds of people visited the congress in the rst hours

The fairground installed in the Plaza de la Constitución in Almoradí has opened its doors wide on the occasion of the celebration of the IX National Artichoke Congress . An event that has started with the visit of hundreds of people attracted by an extensive Gastro-festive program prepared by the council to place this date as a regional reference.

The congress was inaugurated by the president of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Toni Pérez; the Minister of Tourism, Nuria Montes; the mayor of the municipality, María Gómez, and the Councilor for Tourism, José Antonio Latorre, who have shown their satisfaction at the great expectations that this event has generated year after year, which has also been attended by a large number of mayors and councilors from the region.

The president of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Toni Pérez , highlighted that “the artichoke is not only the protagonist of these days but of the history of Almoradí and Vega Baja itself. Very happy to see the dynamics and activity that the square is taking as soon as it starts with many people, not only from the region, but from the entire province of Alicante that already

has this event as a reference.”

Exhibitions, tastings and workshops for the little ones

For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Nuria Montes, has valued the success of organization and assistance from the rst hour, “enjoying a top-level gastronomic product, a tourist experience that no one should miss, concentrating a large part of the good gastronomy of the community.”

The mayor of Almoradí, María Gómez, has shown her joy at the public’s response in the rst hours of the congress, which “is a tribute to the products of our garden, to our rich agriculture and, of course, to all the farmers.” who with their e orts cultivate our green gold. And nally, a tribute to our restaurants that o er us wonderful dishes with the jewel of the garden.”

Arriving at the Plaza de la Constitución means discovering, rst of all, in the Exhibition Hall of the City Hall the exhibition ‘Menjars de la Terra’ based on the gastronomic legacy of the province; secondly, being able to enjoy tapas all day long with artichoke dishes prepared by local chefs and, thirdly, being able to taste and discover the most native cuisine masterfully made by the Peña Huertana los Santicos de la Piedra who have o ered their rice with vegetables or demonstrations of how to

peel an artichoke for salad.

The Charanga del ‘Arcasil’ will be in charge of adding the festive touch to this gastronomic event

In the same way, the central stage featured the live presentation of the Congress song ‘Almoradí, Verde Corazón’ and, among the showcookings, those o ered by the Café Plaza de Catral, the Chefs Sol Repsol, Marta Devesa del Hogar del Pescador de Villajoyosa and Aurora Torres from Restaurante La Herradura de Los Montesinos, also godmother of the Alcachofa Vega Baja Brand in 2024. The little ones will also enjoy the cuisine thanks to the presence of Loreto Riera, the youngest and most recent winner of the TV contest ‘MastesChef Junior’ on 1 participating in the central stage of this event, preceded by a macro children’s cooking workshop.

On this rst day of the congress there will be no shortage of the Torrá Popular , as well as the atmosphere provided by Noname and Ciudad Canalla who will make the audience vibrate with their live performances, as well as the Charanga del ‘Arcasil’ , in charge of adding the festive touch to this gastronomic appointment. As a novelty, in this edition, the visitor has been able to appreciate the Crafts and Local Market , in the area of Calle Mayor.

Here at The Hotel Algorfa, our renovations over the past 18 months have changed the whole entire look of the building. We have updated our rooms to provide a more modernised, cosy, warm feel. We didn’t realise at the time of taking over just how many room types there was to o er out to guests.

Once we’d cleared out the century’s worth of junk and rubbish that had

taken over the hotel rooms, what was left behind was a real pleasant surprise. The Truscott family found 4 self-catering apartments, equipped with kitchens and several bedrooms making the perfect accommodation for families or groups of friends. The suites along the front of the hotel overlooking the beautiful mountains of Orihuela o er a huge space that can sleep up to

4 people, in separate rooms or in the same space. The standard rooms that can be o ered as twin, double or family are surprisingly spacious and has all the amenities needed to enjoy a break away.

Platinum™ construction have guided the family through the renovations, not only in giving advise to the work that needs to be done, but saving them money in each area by suggesting

solutions that is cost e ective. Now, the courtyard area and pool is closed to nalise the refurbishments around the rooms. This area has already seen a transformation over the last few months, with new colour on the walls, new doors on the rooms, the retractable roof replacement and the abolishment of the wooden canopy, replaced with a waterproof, more attractive canopy.

To complete this area, the team will be refurbishing the swimming pool, xing all the leaks and retiling it to bring it back to life and use this area as intended, to relax, unwind and enjoy the facilities of the hotel. The works are due to be completed in time for the summer season so make sure to keep an eye on the hotels Facebook page for all updates.

From dial-up to Pac-Man – The most nostalgic sounds revealed on this World Hearing Day

• 27% say hearing Nokia ringtone makes them feel the most nostalgic

• Almost half (45%) agree sound is most important for memory recall over sight and smell

• Gordon Harrison, Specsavers chief audiologist, comments on the ndings

To mark World Hearing Day (3rd March), new research from Specsavers in the UK has uncovered that the original Nokia ringtone was voted the most nostalgic sound of the 80s, 90s and 00s, followed by typewriter keys clacking and a VHS tape being inserted into a video player.

Other memorable sounds in the top 25 list include the sound of a rotary phone dialing, cassette tapes being rewound and the dial-up modem connecting to the internet.

It was revealed that nearly half (45%) of adults agree that sounds evoke stronger memories than both smell and sight.

In addition, 69% agreed that sounds can even improve their quality of life, notably by improving their mood (48%), reducing anxiety (29%) and helping with sleep (25%).

Despite this, 85% admitted they take their hearing for granted, with over one in four (27%) admitting they never protect their ears from exposure to loud noises.

Hearing loss can signi cantly impact our ability to enjoy not only day-to-day

conversations, but may also impact our ability to recall memories.

New studies are increasingly showing the link between hearing loss and dementia. Some research suggests that the risk of being diagnosed with dementia almost doubles if you live with untreated or mild hearing loss. This risk triples if living with moderate hearing loss.

Jorge Martínez de Lizarduy Araico, audiologist at Specsavers in Benidorm adds: ‘When it comes to the science of nostalgia, our senses are amazing at picking up memory cues. Sound plays a huge role in triggering memories and the emotions associated with them.’

‘The results also remind us how important our hearing is when it comes to remembering things and places and connecting with people.’

Worryingly, 42% of those surveyed have experienced ringing or buzzing in their ears after being exposed to loud noises. And despite over a third of respondents regularly having problems with their hearing, a staggering 38% have never gone for a hearing test.

Admittedly, almost half (45%) feel their hearing has deteriorated with age and 55% are concerned they’ll lose their hearing altogether when they’re older.

Jorge said: ‘Even though hearing loss is one of the most common health conditions, it can be di cult to notice in the early stages. A mixture of good hearing protection and regular tests are

easy ways to help monitor your hearing and minimise hearing loss, so you can continue to enjoy the sounds you love. Prevention is always best, so if you do notice any changes in your hearing, make sure you seek expert help as soon as possible.’

Some of the top signs that could signify that you have hearing loss are frequently asking others to repeat themselves and having the TV volume uncomfortably loud for others.

If you notice any changes in your hearing, book a free hearing test with Specsavers in Benidorm. The store is located in Calle Gambo 2, Benidorm and you can call 965 859 577 or visit www. specsavers.es to request a hearing or eye test.

I have been seeing a woman for three months, who I met on a dating site. She is not aware that I am also seeing other women. I have to admit, that I am quite obsessed with using the App to meet women. But, just lately this long term woman has been pressuring me to settle down; I am 49 years old. I don’t want to give her up because she is a very good friend, and babysits my two kids for me. I make sure I treat her well in return, and I am quite fond of her. I could do worse, as she is very easy on the eye, and is a great cook; she even cleans my Apartment. She also listens to me when i have problems, and she is probably the only woman I’ve known who is also a good friend. But, I just can’t seem to give up other women. Why should I settle for a life of monogamy? I had that with my wife; now I want to be free to do as I wish. My kids live with my exwife and I see them regularly, but I don’t want another serious relationship and all that goes with it; I’ve done that. My girlfriend is young enough to have children, and I suspect she may want a baby, and I’m scared she will get pregnant to trap me, as my wife did.

For you, this is quite simple; you must give up this lady; for both your sakes. Playing the field is what you want; so you’ll need to make sure you are free to play the field, and first and foremost, not hurt anyone else in the process. You must be honest with all of the ‘hook-ups’ that you meet via the dating App. Consider a vasectomy to avoid being ‘tied down’ again, and tell this lady the relationship is over.

Quirónsalud reports that 95% of cervical cancer cases could be prevented thanks to vaccination

Eight out of ten sexually active women come into contact with at least one type of HPV throughout their lives.

Dr. Raquel Jiménez, a specialist in the Gynecology Service at the Quirónsalud Murcia Hospital, warns, on World HPV Day, which will be celebrated next Monday, March 4, that vaccination against the Human Papillomavirus could prevent 95% of HPV cases. cervical cancer .

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection that a ects men and women, and although most cases are harmless and go away on their own, “some strains of this virus are linked to more health problems.” serious, including cervical cancer,” warns Dr. Jiménez.

Up to 80% of sexually active women come into contact with at least one type of HPV throughout their lives. In turn, 80% of these infections are usually transient. Most of these infections do not produce symptoms and usually resolve without treatment in 80-90% of cases. There is a percentage of people, approximately between 10-15%, in whom the

virus persists over time, mainly due to the type of virus, smoking and states of immunosuppression.

Raquel Jiménez, a gynecology specialist at the Quirónsalud Murcia Hospital, warns that this persistence of the virus over time is the main risk factor for the development of lesions and that “a small percentage that ranges between 10 and 20% can cause cancer.” of cervix.”

Dr. Jiménez recommends regular screening tests, such as cervical cytology (Pap smear) and HPV testing, as primary measures to detect abnormal cellular changes in early stages.

human papillomavirus and thus protect ourselves from infection with certain strains of HPV.”

HPV vaccination is the most e ective measure to prevent cervical cancer

Many people infected with HPV do not know they have the infection because symptoms do not always develop, and therefore the person who has it can transmit it to other individuals without being aware of it. “To prevent the spread of this virus,” says Dr. Jiménez, “it is important to get vaccinated against the

The vaccine is designed to protect against strains of HPV that are most likely to cause cancer and is recommended for adolescent boys and girls before they have sexual contact. “This is why doctors recommend that all boys and girls get vaccinated against HPV between the ages of 9 and 11. Vaccination is also indicated in adults for the prevention of cervical, rectal, vaginal, penile and throat cancer.”

Illegal vehicle repair workshop dismantled in Guardamar

The person responsible has been arrested for crimes of serious resistance to law enforcement o cers and illegal possession of a short rearm.

The Civil Guard has dismantled a clandestine car repair workshop in Guardamar del Segura and arrested the person responsible. During the inspection, the person responsible was arrested for a crime of resistance or disobedience for hindering the inspection work and for another for illegal possession of weapons, since a short rearm was found.

During the month of January, the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard received information about the possible existence of a clandestine vehicle workshop in Guardamar del Segura, suspected of being involved in an illegal dumping of tire remains.

After an exhaustive investigation, on January 30, the SEPRONA patrol of Guardamar del Segura proceeded to carry out an inspection in an old warehouse located on land classi ed as rustic, where this illegal activity was carried out. Despite the initial resistance of the person in charge of the workshop, the agents managed to access the place, nding a vehicle in the process of repair, various tools and a sheet metal painting booth.

The individual’s hostile attitude led to his arrest for a crime of serious resistance to law enforcement agents. During the inspection, a short rearm with the serial number erased was discovered, which resulted in a new charge for the crime of illegal possession of weapons. The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the Guard Court of the Judicial District of Torrevieja, which has ordered his release with precautionary measures. The

rearm is pending the result of a detailed analysis that is being carried out in order to determine its origin.

In addition, various administrative proceedings have been initiated against the detainee for carrying out an activity subject to an environmental license without the mandatory instrument of environmental intervention, not presenting proof of delivery of the waste generated in the illegal workshop

and the start-up of facilities lacking of the corresponding authorization for registration, reporting all of this to the competent authorities.

The actions have been carried out by the SEPRONA Patrol of Guardamar del Segura with the support of the Main Post of Guardamar del Segura, while the Territorial Team of the Judicial Police of Guardamar del Segura has been in charge of continuing with the investigations.

Abbey Anglers

On Tuesday the 27th of February we shed the nal round of the Abbey Angling cup at the El Bosquet complex. The venue has been shing pretty poor in recent weeks but with the fast approaching end of the winter and the vibrancies of Spring things are looking up and the weights are improving. That said we arrived at the complex with a de nite chill in the air and high winds which continued throughout the day.

Winner on the day making a welcome return from sunny south Wales was Doug Hornblow, Drawn on peg B1 he shed the bomb with maggots and weighed in a very good weight of 24.78kg.

In second place was Jp who from the favoured peg 26 he shed a very small feeder with maggots for 19.20kg of carp.

In third place was the wily old fox, Bill Reade. Drawn on peg A1 he shed the bomb with maggots for what proved to be a very crucial weight of 16.02kg.

These results along with Neil McBirnie only securing 8th place and after taking two dropping performances into consideration turned the Abbey angling cup upside down. Bill Reade ran out the overall winner with 128pts, JP was second with 122 points and Neil McBirnie was third with 121 points. Well done to all who took part over the 9 match series.

Rods N Reels

The following day we returned to a slightly less windy complex and with 12 anglers attending it was decided to sh pegs A1 to 16.

Winner on the day after a better draw was Neil McBirnie. Drawn on peg B1, which had won the day before he shed the pole with maggots and weighed 24.80kg.

In a very crucial second place was John Waples. Drawn on fancied peg 12 he too used similar pole tactics for 20.72kg.

In third place was International jetsetter Nick Bastock. Taking a well earned break for cruises, airport lounges and cocktails he got his head down on peg 10 and weighed 20.14kg of carp.

Once again these results turned the

nal table of the Rods N Reels cup upside down and after taking out dropping points the outright winner was John Waples with 126 points. In second place was his good friend Terry Brindley with 107 points and third was JP with 102

points. John and Terry have won a luxury glamping weekend in Bognor Regis. Once again many thanks to all that took part in a very close run competition.
