Sea of Santa’s raise ne t ght cancer

Hundreds of local residents gathered on Zenia Boulevard on Sunday (3rd December) for the Maria and the Pink Ladies annual Santa Walk. The hard-working volunteers organise this event each year to raise money for local anticancer charity the AACC. The walk is always a sight to behold as walkers and supporter dress in festive fancy dress. The main square was a sea of Santas, Mrs Clause, snowmen, reindeer and elves. Mmen, women, children and even pets got in on the fun… yes there were several ‘reindogs’ to be seen. The route was a 5k circuit starting and ending at the Boulevard led, of course, by Santa Clause himself, before he had to dash back to Lapland. The walk was just part of the festive fun and walkers, supporters and shoppers as Zenia Boulevard were entertained by host of local performers. The “Stone Media Rocks” choir were on hand singing Christmas songs and carols before and after the walk. Simon Morton of Sunshine

FM was also in attendance playing Christmas tunes to fill everyone with that festive spirit. This year the charity once again collected food and toiletries for those less fortunate and this was handed over on the day to Reach Out, a charity that supports those in need in the local community and surrounding areas. Members of the public were very generous and there were two shopping trolleys full of goodies that had been collected by the end of the event. Every cent raised will be donated to the AACC, a local charity which runs a comprehensive and heavily subsidised early detection program. Cancer affects one in two people, but early detection does save lives, so please book your appointment now. The AACC offer checks for men

and women including prostate, skin, bowel, breast and cervical cancers. Call 865 942 795 for further information or call into the AACC office on the ground floor of Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre. Maria and the Pink Ladies/ Panthers exists to help raise awareness of cancer and the support available both before and after diagnosis. Maria Wilson and the Pink Ladies/Panthers began raising money for the fight against cancer after Maria discovered she had breast cancer and then a secondary cancer, undeterred she and her team of voluteers have continued to raise more than 559,000e and donate 100% of proceeds to help the people of the Orihuela Costa affected by cancer.

President Mario Martínez revealed this plan during the Oriola Economy Night celebration at La Lonja recently, where local businesses were honoured with awards. Martínez explained that the new Chamber of Commerce office, situated in Centro

Panto season tis upon us and locals looking for a bit of festive fun are in look as Stone Media has just announced its performances for this year. Stone Media has been running its adult and kids’ theatre group for more than 10 years here on the Costa Blanca. These humorous and enjoyable shows are adapted and directed by Carla Stone with a load of extra innuendos thrown in for good measure and this year is no exception. The tongue-in-cheek adult production is a typical belly laugh a minute panto with the men as women and women as men, first time dame but no stranger to treading the boards is Oliver Woods plus a cast of vibrant young up and coming stars telling the story of Prince Charming and his evil mother’s journey to help find him love…when he was quite happy to party on! Also supported by Stone Media’s Rock choir which helps to add an extra Christmassy touch. As always, this year’s panto is all in aid of a good cause, with a donation being made to MABS.

In an ongoing effort to reopen the coastal path between Cabo Roig and Aguamarina, the Orihuela council has taken a significant step by presenting a new proposal during the latest plenary session. The project, which received approval in September, has progressed through the public exhibition phase. Despite the expiration of the deadline and the rejection of appeals from residents in the affected residential complex, the Council has finalized its offer. However,

Charming, a Prince of a Tale will be performed at The Madhouse on Thursday 7th and Saturday 9th December at 8pm and a matinee on Sunday 10th December at 4pm. Tickets are available from The Madhouse or on WhatsApp 666 551 816. They are priced at 10e for over 12’s. The kids production is the lovable ogre Shrek, who is learning the meaning of Christmas with Princess Fiona and the ogre babies. They are supported by a fairytale cast including a rather large dragon and features a pretty impressive snowball fight with the audience! The very naughty but family favourite ‘Elf on the Shelf’ will be making an appearance too. With 15 children between the age of 6 and 14 years of age showing off their considerable acting skills, it is always a great atmosphere and so much fun. This production is supporting Elche Children’s Home. The performances will also take place at the Madhouse on Saturday 16th December at 2pm and Sunday 17th December at 4pm. Tickets available as above. For anyone who would like to join

in the fun, from January the group will start focussing on next production by Stone Media, which is all to do with Barnum’s Circus featuring the music from the greatest showman and from April the group will be starting its ‘Rocky Reunion’ to be ready for October. The next children’s production is a secret and will be announced at the end of their Christmas production.

residents’ reluctance to engage in negotiations for the expropriation of the land has prompted the Council to initiate a process that may involve a third party in determining a just price for the acquisition. The lack of agreement has led to the inconvenience of holidaymakers, walkers, and residents who are currently required to take a detour of nearly two kilometres to reach La Caleta beach. The Council’s decision not to declare

urgent occupation in September, a move that would have allowed immediate intervention, was intended as a goodwill gesture to facilitate an agreement with the residents. Despite this, neighborhood opposition remains steadfast, potentially causing delays in the process of determining a fair price. The prolonged legal battle may persist until a final judgment is reached, exhausting all avenues for appeal. The coastal promenade, connecting Aguamarina with La Caleta, has been

closed since 2021 following a court ruling that compelled the City Council to shut it down. This resulted in the pathway reverting to private use for residents of the Bellavista residential area. The same residents had previously contested the Council’s 2015 decision to demolish a wall erected two decades earlier. The court ruling at that time favored the owners, stipulating that any public use of the pathway required land expropriation by the council.

In a significant development, Spain’s Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, announced on Tuesday that Spain is prepared to sign an agreement regarding the post-Brexit status of Gibraltar. Albares expressed his intent to finalize the deal during a meeting with the newly appointed British Foreign Minister, David Cameron, in Brussels. The Spanish Foreign Minister revealed that he had engaged in a telephone conversation with Cameron on Monday, and both parties agreed to convene in Brussels for further discussions on the contentious issue of Gibraltar’s status. “Spain put on the table, several months ago, a balanced and generous agreement,” stated Albares in an interview with Spanish TV station Tele 5 on Tuesday. He emphasized Spain’s eagerness for the agreement to be signed promptly, expressing a desire for it to be concluded as early as possible. The status of Gibraltar, a Britishcontrolled enclave at the southern tip of Spain since the 18th century, has been a focal point of tension since the UK’s 2016 decision to leave the European Union. Notably, Gibraltar was excluded from the exit deal negotiated between Britain and the EU.

As of 31st December, 2020, just hours before Britain’s full departure from the EU, Spain, Britain, and the European Union reached an agreement stipulating that Gibraltar would remain part of EU agreements, including the Schengen Area. Furthermore, Spain would take responsibility for policing the port and airport of Gibraltar, pending a long-term solution to be determined. The European Commission and Spain jointly proposed a plan in late 2022, outlining measures such as keeping Gibraltar’s land border with Spain open and ensuring the free movement of people. The ongoing negotiations reflect the intricate diplomatic dance surrounding Gibraltar, a rocky outpost at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea, ceded to Britain by Spain in 1713, but a subject of enduring dispute with Spain seeking its return.

Spain has once again officially said it is open to relaxing the so-called ‘90-day rule’ for British visitors and holidayhome owners – although its national government is not sure it will have the powers to take any action. Minister for industry, tourism and trade, Héctor Gómez, and Secretary of State for tourism, Rosana Morillo, were recently at London’s World Travel Market – one of the biggest holiday trade fairs on earth, and the UK capital’s answer to Madrid’s famous FITUR exhibition. Whilst there, Gómez recalled that the UK is Spain’s largest foreign tourist market, and said that all the signs pointed to its continuing to be so in 2024. Spain, along with other key holiday countries in Europe popular with British nationals, feared Brexit would create a negative impact on their tourism industry, but Gómez and Sra Morillo confirm this has not been the case for the Spanish sector. Still, Brexit has caused huge challenges for people in Britain who own holiday homes in EU nations, particularly those who have always spent significant amounts of their year in them, or who have family in EU countries they may need long-term ‘access’ to at any given point. This is because, with the UK’s departure from the EU, the nation

became subject to third-country Schengen zone rules: Its residents are limited to 90 consecutive days within the European passport-free area in any 180 days. As an EU member State, despite not being in the Schengen zone, the UK did not have such limitations – but now, anyone living in Britain who travels to Europe on January 1 will have to leave before April 1, or face severe sanctions. Those who want to spend longer in the Schengen zone have to apply to become a permanent resident of the country they spend the longest in, meeting the much stricter immigration rules that apply to non-EU citizens, and giving up their residency in the UK. Héctor Gómez is very aware of the

1021 977

problem faced by British nationals in terms of limitations on their time spent in Spain – or, indeed, any EU country within the passport-free area. But this is not a rule applied by Spain, or by any national government in Europe – it is the default situation for any country outside the EU-27, meaning it automatically came into effect on the day the UK left the bloc. Gómez was quoted in an article by the London-based LBC radio as saying: “Unfortunately, this rule is not something Spain has established by itself, or can get rid of. It is in our interest to lobby and convince the EU that we can try to work an exception with them – but the solution must come from the EU.”

harit cu ture and gastr n eature in rihue a s ece er a s The Tourism Department of the Orihuela City Council has designed some December tourist routes with the intention of saying goodbye to 2023 with the best cultural and gastronomic flavor possible and all with a great Christmas and solidarity spirit. To this end, the area directed by Gonzalo Montoya has presented the “Canine Solidarity Route” as the main novelty for this month . This will take place on Sunday, December 10, leaving at 10:30 a.m. in San Bartolomé. In it, there will be a walk with the dogs from the ASOKA shelter, a donation of 5 euros will be made and products destined for Cáritas will be collected. Another route that will have a solidarity character will be that of “Miguel Hernández. Life and work” on December 16 at 11 a.m. departing from Plaza del Carmen. In it, products for Cáritas will also be collected, especially products such as milk, oil and clothing for adults. On the other hand, on the “Nativity Scenes with Tourist Train” route all the nativity scenes in Orihuela will be visited, so it is necessary to use the train and this involves a small cost of 4 euros for adults and 3 euros for children under

12 years of age. . This activity will take place in La Lonja on December 23 at 11:30 a.m. and on December 26 at 4:30 p.m. “The Route of the Murals of San Isidro” will be on Saturday, December 9th In the last month of the year, two days of the “ Sweet Steps” routes in the Convents have been chosen . Both will have the Plaza del Carmen as their starting point, but at different times. The trail on December 7 will begin at 4:30 p.m. and that on December 21 at 5 p.m. “The Route of the Murals of San Isidro” will also enter the scene. Starting at 11:00 on the morning of December 9, there will be a tour of this famous neighborhood full of murals dedicated to the Oriolano poet, among which the Guernika Mural stands out, the place from which the route will begin. Likewise, the Councilor for Tourism has emphasized that “we cannot end 2023 without visiting two tourist sites in Orihuela.” On December 14, the “Diocesan Seminary of San Miguel” route can be done at 5:45 p.m., while on January 3 it will be the “Climb to the Castle” route at 11:00 a.m. Both routes will have the Plaza del Carmen as

their meeting point. All routes include tasting of conventual sweets The Councilor for Tourism, Gonzalo Montoya, has highlighted “the comprehensive, attractive and supportive offer” of these routes, explaining that “from the Department of Tourism we are very happy with the offer of routes for next December that we have been able to present to the city. As news, we should indicate that we continue in the line of commitment to gastronomic tourism, since all these routes include a tasting of conventual sweets , and also highlight their solidarity aspect. For example, with the collaboration we do with the protector Asoka and with the collection of products for Cáritas. Therefore, we believe that it is a comprehensive and attractive route offer for everyone that allows the tasting of convent sweets that are so typical and identifying Orihuela, and also a solidarity offer, which fits perfectly into these Christmas holidays.” We remind you that places are limited and that reservations can be made through the website www. orihuelaturistica.es

rihue a t h st asa de gua de i n The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, announced this Thursday the new use that will be given to the Marqués de Rafal palace once its rehabilitation is completed. Mazón referred to the Water House of the Valencian Community that will turn Orihuela into “the water headquarters of the Valencian Community.” Mazón recalled that the palace was acquired in June 2022 for 2,350,000 euros by the previous Consell de la Generalitat and is in terrible condition, without accessibility and without a use license for offices. Mazón expressed his intention to convert the palace “not only into an institutional and visiting headquarters, but also an operational headquarters within the Water Roundtable strategy.” In addition, it extended its hand to ASAJA Alicante so that the Lemon House , which it announced in November 2021, would be integrated into the future Water House to promote the lemon from Vega Baja, which accounts for 40% of national production. Likewise, Carlos Mazón highlighted the Consell’s project to convert the old Orihuela asylum into a new social and

health city for dependent people from the Vega Baja. It will be made up of the Oriol Residence, a day center and a mental health center and will have a budget of almost two million euros. Carlos Mazón also advanced the elimination of the Territorial Action Plan that “only brought dire consequences for the sustainable development of the municipalities of Vega Baja,” since the region “needs to stop strangling the possibilities of sustainable development it has.”

In addition, the president wanted to influence other projects for Orihuela and Vega Baja that have been included in the 2024 budgets, such as the unfolding of the CV-95, as well as the importance that the elimination of the Tourist Tax will have in the region. Some statements he made this Thursday night during the 4th Orihuela Economy Night, organized by the Orihuela Chamber of Commerce and which rewards Orihuela commerce and industry.

erra atura enid r c nstrict r sei ed The Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of Elche has delivered a boa constrictor (Boa constrictor) to the Herpetology department of the Terra Natura Benidorm nature and animal park that had been seized from a private individual, after the specimen fell from a terrace onto the public road. For the time being, the boa will remain temporarily in the Benidorm park until the administration determines a definitive location for it. The Seprona agents contacted Terra Natura Benidorm to take in the boa constrictor until a new space was found for it. This snake is characterised by killing its prey by constriction, squeezing them with its body until it manages to strangle them, and can reach up to five metres in length. As soon as it was transferred to Terra Natura Benidorm, the head of Herpetology, David Martí, proceeded to identify it as a species listed in the CITES II annex, the possession of which is prescribed for private individuals by the recent animal welfare law. The park’s veterinarians carried out a series of tests on the boa to confirm its state of health. They have also taken advantage of the veterinary check-up to fit it with a microchip so that it can be properly identified. David Martí stressed that “these animals are complex to look after. Many parameters and factors must be taken into account to achieve a

suitable habitat and degree of wellbeing for these snakes, so they should not be kept in the home as if they were a pet”. The team of herpetologists at the nature park has extensive experience in the handling and care of this species. The public who come to the park these days will be able to observe this boa constrictor in one of the terrariums that form part of the permanent exhibition of venomous creatures at Terra Natura Benidorm, located inside the volcano in the Pangea area. The Guardia Civil’s work with protected species The Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Guardia Civil works permanently to guarantee the protection of flora and fauna species, in accordance with the different regulations from the local to the international level. To this end, the agents verify both that private individuals meet the mandatory requirements for the possession of specimens, and that trade in the different species is carried out legally. Illegal trade and possession of species can lead to administrative and criminal consequences for those responsible. In addition, it can pose serious security risks when they are not provided with the care and security measures appropriate to their special characteristics.

About Terra Natura Benidorm Terra Natura Benidorm is a nature and animal park dedicated to the care of animal species, with more than 1,500 animals of 200 different species (98 of which are protected

or in danger of extinction), 30 conservation projects and 19 breeding programmes. Its surface area is divided into four areas representing the continents of America, Asia and Europe, and the

Pangea area, inspired by the origin of the Earth. The tour of its facilities immerses visitors in the concept of zoo-immersion and otherness, and they can enjoy a wide range of entertainment activities.

che urt sentences an r ra ing artners daughter The Eleventh Section of the Provincial Court of Alicante, based in Elche, has sentenced a man to 13 years and 9 months in prison after declaring proven that he continuously raped a minor, the daughter of his partner, in the family home, located in a town in the Vega Baja region . The sentence, which can be appealed before the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community , establishes compensation in favor of the victim of 14,000 euros for the moral and psychological damages suffered. In addition, it states that the convicted person will not be able to approach or communicate with her for 18 years and will not be able to practice a profession,

trade or activities that involve regular and direct contact with minors for a period of 21 years. Finally, it imposes a 9-year supervised release measure after serving the prison sentence. The Court considers it proven that the accused took advantage of the “quasi-parental-filial” relationship he had with the minor and the privacy offered by the family home to sexually assault her from the time she was 12 years old until she turned 15 and she went to live with her biological father. Initially he began touching her bottom and breasts and taking nude photographs of her, but then he forced her to have sexual relations with frequent carnal access, while he immobilized her, hit her or threatened to attack or kill her. The girl went to live with

her biological father at the age of 15 and reported the events when she was of legal age, in February 2021 , “out of fear that the accused could do the same with her sisters,” as reported. the magistrates in the resolution. The Court considers that the man committed a continuous crime of sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, in which he took advantage of his relationship of superiority or kinship with respect to the victim. The Court has reached this conclusion after understanding that the testimony of the injured party is “firm, credible, coherent and persistent” over time and has been corroborated, among other elements, by the expert reports and statements in the trial of three psychologists to whom he reported the sexual assaults.

Have you lost contact with £9,500? With the number of lost pots on the rise, now is the time to pay your forgotten pension pot some attention. My personal financial admin is often a Sunday task that is almost always deferred for other mundane tasks, such as laundry or bathroom cleaning, and I work in finance. This financial procrastination, or unawareness, is evidenced by the new lost pots figures published by Pensions Policy Institute. The value of lost pension pots now stands at £26.6bn. What’s even worse is the increase in the number of lost pots, which is nearly 75% higher than in 2018.

• Who are losing their pots? Primarily those under 55, which accounts for 65% of the total number of pots lost, but over half a million are still lost in the crucial pre-retirement period of 55-65. • Why are pots being lost? Contact is typically lost because people move home and do not tell their provider they’ve moved. People have moved jobs and home more frequently since 2018, which has predominantly led to this increase. Recent research found that only 4% of people instinctively think to contact their pension provider about a change in address; in comparison 66% tell their bank. • How much are they losing contact with? You would assume that a lost pot would be a smaller one, because surely any materially-

sized pot would have been, if not cherished, at least tracked by their owner. But these pots are not insubstantial. The average size pot which is lost amongst the 55–75-year-old range, is £16,004. The average across all ages, is £9,474. If you worked in the UK and now reside here in Spain, there is every possibility that your money is waiting for you to make a claim. I urge you to think about your past jobs and contact us to see if your retirement could be made that much more comfortable. It is expected to begin in the next two months, unless classrooms are unavailable due to ongoing training. In that case, the period will begin after the completion of the training actions and will last 12 months, equivalent to 1,920 hours of training. This workshop adds to the landscape restoration efforts

of the palm grove and its adjacent areas. The Councilor for Development, Víctor Valverde, expressed the intention to continue seeking subsidies for training and employment, highlighting the ongoing projects in the Palmeral such as “the workshop of the miners’ house, the Cinabrio oven, the restoration of the walls of “lamination of ravines and the comprehensive maintenance carried out on the historic palm grove of Orihuela.” The total cost of the workshop is 838,721.20 euros, with a contribution of 40,000 euros from the Orihuela City Council.

GBP / EUR UPDATE GBP This week has been a relatively quiet on the data front for the UK, although the Bank of England’s Governor Andrew Bailey made headlines after he was quoted saying the UK’s outlook was the worst he’d ever seen in his career. The Governor’s hawkish stance seems to have had a positive impact on the pound however, which is now sitting at around 1.2650. Dollar weakness is also contributing to its strength, with cooling inflation in the US potentially contributing to the sluggish growth in Treasury Yields, which can indicate caution in the markets. With Bailey comments underpinning the performance of the currency pair so far this week, we’ll be looking closely at Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s speech later today. On this side of the Atlantic, the pound is also finishing the week stronger against the euro. Europe’s CPI data (more on this below) showed inflation falling faster than expected across the region, putting Europe and the UK on different trajectories as we move closer to 2024. The impact of this could be a wider divergence in market expectations around monetary policy. We are already seeing this with current interest rate forecasts, with the Bank of England expected to start cutting rates significantly later than both the European Central Bank and the Moneycorp Technologies Limited (company number 612120) is registered in Ireland. It’s registered office is 24 Windsor Place, Dublin 2. Moneycorp is a trading name of Moneycorp Technologies Limited which is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland under the European Communities (Electronic Money) Regulations 2011 for the provision of Electronic Money and Payment services and with the Central Bank of Ireland for the provision of designated investment business under European Union (Markets in Financial Instruments) Regulations 2017 (firm reference number C184118). Federal Reserve. EUR CPI Inflation data was released in Germany and Spain on Wednesday, with both the major European economies posting a slower-thanexpected price growth. Germany’s CPI inflation rate fell to 3.2% in November, a drop of 0.6% from the previous month and below the market expectation of 3.5%. Spain’s CPI inflation told a similar story, also falling to 3.2%, despite market expectations it would flatline at the 3.5% posted in October. Inflation data from France and Italy was also released yesterday morning and continued to follow the trend, falling more than expected to 3.4% in France, against the 3.7% forecast by markets, and to 3.6% in Italy. Eurostat’s estimate for the whole region placed the annual CPI inflation rate at 2.4%. European stocks rallied in the aftermath of the data releases, which could be the result of increased optimism over the slowdown of inflation. After a stronger first half of the week, the euro fell against the dollar following the releases, as inflation falling faster than expected could encourage the markets to bring forward their forecasts for the first rate cuts next year. As a result, the currency pair looks like it’ll close the week fairly flat overall. identification number (NIF) W0028234C and duly registered with the Mercantile Registry of Madrid under volume 41020, book 0, sheet 116, section 8, page M-727625, inscription number 1 has its registered office located in C./Núñez de Balboa 35-A, 3rd Floor B, Madrid, 28001. he enera itat i rest re the ar u s de a a a ace in rihue a The Generalitat Valenciana plans to carry out a renovation project at the Marqués de Rafal palace in Orihuela to correct the multiple deficiencies found in the building and adapt it to current regulations on safety and risk prevention after finding it in a terrible state. The project will also include the necessary renovations inside the property to adapt it to future administrative and office uses, among others, and to current municipal planning regulations. The Marqués de Rafal de Orihuela palace was acquired in June 2022 for 2,350,000 euros by the previous Consell de la Generalitat. The headquarters of the Presidency and the offices of the Vega Renhace Plan were established there, with several employees working inside under the direction of an advisor to the then socialist president, Ximo Puig. The Generalitat will immediately prepare a report on the state of conservation of the property upon verifying its state of abandonment and the lack of maintenance and accessibility measures. The Generalitat has communicated that a report carried out after the first inspections reveals that the building has had constant water leaks affecting the alarm system and that it does not meet the minimum security conditions to be open to the public. Electricity, fire protection and air conditioning installations are nonexistent or obsolete. From the first inspections it is also clear that the lighting, ventilation

and telecommunications equipment is deficient. The report establishes that the extensive list of irregularities found discourages the palace from being used for administrative purposes, with offices and offices, without the corresponding in-depth reforms. The current facilities are in accordance with the original use of the building, as a former home. In fact, most of the property is in its original state from the 18th century, renovated at the beginning of the 20th century. The palace has authorization for use as housing, not for offices and administration. To request the change of use, it will be necessary to carry out a technical project that includes all the necessary interventions and the solution to the multiple irregularities. It will have to include accessibility, fire protection, signage and habitability, among other requirements; and prior to all this structural safety reports, pathology studies and diagnosis of the building’s safety. To do this, it will be necessary to request the corresponding construction and activity licenses. The delegate of the Consell in Alicante, Agustina Esteve, has pointed out that it was “absolutely irresponsible” for the Consell del Botànic to open the building in these conditions and without the necessary permits and authorizations. “How is it possible that Ximo Puig installed the Presidency headquarters and some offices there on the first floor

without an elevator and without the corresponding licenses and without even guaranteeing the safety of the workers?” asks Esteve, who also warns that it was about of a public building that was not adapted. The Consell delegate has also drawn attention to the “very serious” fact that the building was opened to the public, with family visits, with the consequent risk to their safety. “The Marques de Rafal palace did not meet the minimum conditions to be open. Families with children passed through it without knowing that the property lacked security measures and that it had significant deficiencies,” Agustina Esteve lamented. The Generalitat explains that in January 2023, the director of the Plan and technicians from the company with which the Generalitat had agreed in May 2022 on a management assignment for the implementation and monitoring of the Plan began to work in the Marqués de Rafal palace. Vega Renhace Plan. After several months working inside, in June 2023 the previous acting Consell de la Generalitat issues a certificate of completion of the assignment and the workers leave their jobs. Likewise, Generalitat points out that on July 18, 2023, the director of the Plan closed the building, leaving it without security and cleaning services, and handed over the keys to the Marqués de Rafal palace at the Consell Delegation in Alicante.

Cambiemos Orihuela has echoed the latest information about the future of the old asylum about which the Department of Social Services, apparently, has a roadmap to transform the building into a socio-health city, in which in addition to housing the residence of the Oriol Center , would also be intended for the care of dependent people at the regional level. For Cambiemos, this news “lacks substantial content and once again plunges into the risky terrain of announcing large projects without specific specifications. The absence of

an approximate date for the start of the works as well as the rest of the project phases, as well as the lack of details on the budget allocations for both the rehabilitation of the wing where the Oriol residents would go and for the rest of the building, According to the group, it leaves those interested in a new uncertainty and feeds the perception of empty promises and distance from achieving the objective, which is for the residents of Oriol to return to Orihuela.” Given this situation, Cambiemos Orihuela hopes

that the Ministry will provide more explicit answers, especially in response to the question registered last week by the Compromís parliamentary group in Corts, at the request of Cambiemos. “Ultimately, we consider that it is time to put aside the half measures and clarify what the line of work will be. The budget items that will be included in the next regional budgets must be specified, to achieve true transparency and clarity in these announcements,” stated Cambiemos councilor Quique Montero.

This unusual tradition dates back to 1974 when a KFC in Japan received a strange request for someone to dress up as Santa Claus and deliver buckets of fried chicken to a nearby Christmas party. This became a hit and prompted KFC to launch its first Christmas campaign in 1974. Orders have to be booked two months in advance and queues stretch out to the street around Christmas time.

St Nicholas inspired the jolly character of Santa Claus During his life, St Nicholas helped the poor and needy by giving money to those in need, saving falsely accused prisoners and nursing the sick. Following his death, stories about his kindness inspired the jolly and bubbly character of Santa Claus that we know today.

Coca-Cola helped create Santa’s iconic ‘image’ While we usually picture Santa Claus as a round, jolly, bearded man dressed in a big red suit, he hasn’t always looked like this. The original Santa Claus was thin and spooky, dressed in Norse huntsman’s animal skin. The original depiction was created by Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast who continued to alter the image over 30 years. It wasn’t until the 1920s when the Coca-Cola Company began Christmas advertising and featured the iconic image of the Santa Claus we know and love today.

Boxing day is only celebrated in a few countries The annual celebration of Boxing Day falls on the 26th of December and is celebrated by several countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. This tradition dates back to the 1800s when the rich would let their servants have a day off to go home. The first Christmas crackers were made in 1847 London-based baker and confectioner Tom Smith invented the Christmas cracker in 1847 after being inspired by French bonbons and his crackling log fire.

Spider’s webs are Christmas decorations in Eastern Europe The legend of the Christmas Spider is an Eastern European folktale, about a poor widow who couldn’t afford to buy her gifts for her children on Christmas, causing tiny spiders to decorate the

tree with webs at night. From here, people have decorated their Christmas trees with decorative webs, shiny tinsel and colourful spiders.

Jingle Bells was the first song played in space During NASA’s Gemini 6A space flight on the 16th of December 1965, Jingle Bells broke a Guinness World Record for being the first song played in space. The astronauts on flight played a joke to Mission Control stating that they could see an “object travelling at a low trajectory from north to south”, followed by a rendition of the famous Christmas song. Christmas wasn’t always on December 25 While Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ, the date of the big event has been lost to history. According to many historians, Jesus was most likely born in the spring, not December 25. The date of the festival may have been

chosen because it coincided with Saturnalia, a pagan festival honouring Saturn, the agricultural god. It was the Dutch who first thought of leaving milk and cookies for Santa The practise of leaving cookies and milk for Santa might be traced back to Norse mythology. People would leave hay and goodies for Odin’s eightlegged horse Sleipner in the hopes that the deity would visit them on his Yule hunting adventures. This custom was passed down to Dutch children who left sweets for Father Christmas’ horse. The smallest Christmas card on earth is invisible to the naked eye In 2017, British scientists created the world’s smallest Christmas card, 200 million times smaller than a stamp. The card includes complex inscriptions of a snowman and festive messages, making it invisible to the naked eye.

Rafal’s designer, Amaya Sánchez, dresses the Junior Eurovision 2023 representative

Rafal’s designer, Amaya Sánchez, dresses the representative of Junior Eurovision 2023. The fashion designer, creative director of the company Amaya Fashion For Kids , has become the head designer of Sandra Valeron, who will represent Spain in Eurovision Junior 2023. The Rafaeleña fashion designer created a total look from her Limited Edition Haute Couture line Amaya Sánchez Couture for Sandra Valero, which she wore on the red carpet at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards gala held in Seville. It is a look composed “of a captivating moiré design that delicately hugs the waist and shows a bow in an elegant back neckline, a skirt made with natural feathers dyed in a vibrant matching red.” To match, a perfect one with the same fabric that shows a dedication in red pearl, declaring her “love” for Spanish fashion clothing.

This look, designed exclusively for Sandra, fuses contemporary elegance with impeccable craftsmanship, bringing couture to signature fashion. «Dressing Sandra Valero has been an exciting shared creative journey, a return to childhood where you feel that dreams come true. All these emotions are what Sandra awakens in me. “She gives off a very special magic,” Amaya confesses on her social networks. Who is Amaya Sánchez? Amaya Sánchez was born in Rafal in 1973. At the age of 18 she went to Madrid to study at the Higher Center for Fashion Design. In 1994 she moved to London to expand her training by completing a Postgraduate at the prestigious University of the Arts London, central Saint Martins. She combined her studies with the creation

of small fashion collections for exclusive clients, while she collaborated with theater companies making costume designs. At the same time, she launches her first line of t-shirts on the market with her own brand. Her parents, Antonio Herrero and José Sánchez, founded a children’s clothing workshop in the sixties that later became what we know today with this fashion brand because in 1998, Amaya joined the family business as manager. of product development and realization. Two generations dedicated body and soul to children’s fashion with more than 50 years of commitment to design and the creation of trends, cultivating Amaya’s most precious secret: having known how to preserve its independent spirit of a family business. So really, the essence of this brand is family tradition.

I wanted to write to say that Christmas is not always a happy time for a lot of people. I have lost so many members of my family; a lot tragically and too soon. In the past we enjoyed some magical Christmases, particularly when the children were young. I lost my husband in July, and can’t face it this year. I am finding that I get a panicked feeling rising in me. My children want me to fly home and join them, but I can’t face getting on a plane by myself; my husband and I did everything together and I don’t have the confidence; my family understands completely, but I still feel wretched - and the outlook is no better. I know I will get the usual barrage of phone messages wishing me a merry Christmas on the day itself. Cox local police advise Ninety-seven people have died in traffic accidents during the on vehicle thefts month of November

The Cox Granja Local Police have issued a notice regarding the robberies and robberies that are occurring in vehicles parked on public roads, especially at night. As explained by the police force in these towns, “on many occasions the perpetrators use those vehicles that are not properly closed and while they walk past them they check

whether they are open or not” or “they break a window, usually the small rear one.” , to open a door.” Given these events, the Local Police advises taking security measures to prevent vehicle theft: • If you don’t have a garage, try stations in places that are as frequented and illuminated

as possible. • Check that all the doors of your vehicle are closed. • Do not leave valuables inside or visible. • Protect your car with antitheft systems. • Activate, if available, the vehicle’s alarm system. • If you see suspicious people committing a criminal act, report them immediately.

There have been 92 fatal traffic accidents in which 97 people have died, in a context in which mobility has decreased by 1.1% compared to November of last year. Motorcyclists continue to be the group that increases the accident rate the most with 24 deaths. 10 of the 17 pedestrians who died were in accidents that took place on the highway or highway. So far this year, 1,036 people have died on the road, 9 fewer fatalities than in the same period in 2022. During the month of November, 92 fatal accidents were recorded on the roads in which 97 people died, 2 more than in the same month of 2022, in a context in which mobility has reduced by 1.1% compared to November from the previous year, registering 32.7 million long-distance movements. Deaths on conventional roads increase compared to the same month last year, as can be seen in the table. During this month, pedestrian collisions have increased, with 15 deaths recorded, 5 more than in November of last year. On the contrary, fatalities from leaving

the road and from lateral and frontolateral collisions decrease, an insufficient decrease since 31 people died when the vehicle in which they were traveling left the road and another 8 in lateral or frontolateral collisions. If the means of travel is taken into account, the groups that increase their accident rate the most are motorcyclists and pedestrians. Specifically, 24 motorcycle users have died, 7 more than those that occurred in the same month last year. Conventional roads continue to be the most dangerous for this group because of the 24 motorcyclists who died, 21 were in accidents that took place on this type of road.

Regarding pedestrians, 10 of the 17 pedestrians who died this month were in accidents that occurred on the highway or highway. Regarding the use of safety systems, 8 of the deceased were not using the corresponding safety system at the time of the accident, 7 of them were traveling in a car and 1 of them, a cyclist, was not using a helmet. By autonomous community, November does not present a stable pattern, the community in which deaths have increased the most has been in the Basque Country, while, in Castilla y León and Catalonia, fatalities have been lower than in November of last year .

Lo Crispin Golf at Altorreal On the 29th. November 26 members and 2 guests competed in the Society’s penultimate game of the year, an Individual Stableford and the 4th. eclectic of this year’s competition at Altorreal. Once again the sun shone and there was very little wind throughout the day. However, the conditions for playing golf, especially what we are used to in Spain, were spoiled by copious amounts of water on nearly every fairway, something myself and most of the other players have not experienced before, playing golf in Spain. There were numerous places on the fairways, which were designated ‘ground under repair’ as a consequence. Undoubtedly the above contributed greatly to the lower than usual scoring, especially in relation to our high handicap members.Following the game as usual, we returned to the Lo Crispin Tavern, where Tapas was supplied and the Day’s prizes were distributed.

Abbey Anglers On Tuesday the 28th of November we fished the 7th round of the Winter series at the El Bosquet complex. Fishing at this time of year can be up and down and this over the tow days was in fact the case. Fifteen anglers took part and we once again fished the usual section A1 to 7 and 26 to 40. If I had to select two pegs on this complex that I would like to draw at anytime of the year it would be peg 1 and peg 26. These pegs for whatever reason nearly always produce lots of fish and once again both anglers on these pegs had a great days fishing.

Gold Division 1st Place - Richard Brady 30 pts off 15 2nd Place - Dean Astley 29 pts off 18 3rd Place - Andy Quinn 28 pts off 9 Silver Division 1st Place - Alex McCartney 19 pts off 34 (on count back) 2nd Place - Barney Barningham 19 pts off 27 (on count back) 3rd Place - Paul Flanaghan 19 pts off 31 N.T. P. on Par 3s Hole 5 - Bill Croft Hole 8 - Dan Doyle Hole 10 - Martin O’Keefe Hole 17 - Jimmy Page The 2’s ‘pot’ was won by Bill Croft and the Free Game Draw by Steve Price. The final game of the year at La Finca on 13th. December will be a Texas Scramble. Steve Harrington (Membership and Handicap Secretary)

Winner on the day was local venue specialist, Neil McBernie, drawn on peg 1 he caught lots of quality carp on the pole for a fantastic weight of 32.10kg. Neil was followed closely by ”Mr Expander”, Terry Brindley on peg 26. Yes you heard it correct for the second week running he used expander pellets to catch some lovely carp on the pole for 27.16kg. In yet another joint third place was Russell Davidson on peg B1 and Steve Higgins on peg 7, both with a respectable 14.26kg Rods N reels The following day we fished the same complex with 12 anglers

attending. Once again we fished pegs A1 to 7 and this time 30 to 40. The first section definitely fished better than the back with all six members catching on the first section and three dry nets on the back section. Winner on the day after a dramatic change in fortunes from the day before was myself, Ian Brown. The previous day I had blanked and within 5 seconds of the all in, I was playing a fish on peg 7. Overall the day was once again a bit of a struggle but I managed to land 7 nice carp and a small mullet all on the pole with bread or corn for 13.92kg. In second play was our Belgium

raider Max DeGroote. The Belgians have always produced some decent fishermen and Max is certainly no exception. He fished the pole across with corn or maggots and was a very close second with 13.72kg. In third place making a rare appearance was Shaun Reakes who fished the method feeder on peg 5 for a respectable11.68kg. Please note. Next Tuesday and Wednesday the 5th and 6th of December El Bosquet will be closed to pleasure anglers. The complex is holding Abbey and Rods N reels annual Christmas match and with 32 anglers taking part all the pegs will be in use.
